FALL SESSION 2019

BLOG POST #3,280 AT THE AICP-END

378 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

The power of the Deep State should frighten the hell out of everyone…
Santa Barbara, CA 93102, 10-24-2019 Thursday:   On three occasions, I have written articles on the now-notorious Deep State, the entrenched bureaucracy that seemingly has more power through its octopus-like tentacles than do elected presidents, senators, and congressmen-and-women.  I guess we have always known deep down in our hearts that the faceless bureaucrats have always been there, manipulating virtually everything that occurs within government at all levels and that the people appointed to head various organizations, departments, and military positions are there for a somewhat brief amount of time when compared to the underlings and hirelings who have their jobs via the civil service and who can be there for years, even decades, unless they do something so onerous that they are forced to step down because of a desire to ‘spend more time with their families.’
Let us imagine agencies such as the IRS[i], an entity that has a commissioner, typically appointed by a president and who may serve under one and then another if the next one likes his or her work and keeps them on, they might get to spend a decade or more in that position.  Likewise, the FBI[ii], the CIA, the NSA, the State Department, the Environmental Protection Agency, and all the rest.  These sorts of agencies have more power than do presidents, senators, and congressional representatives.  What the heck?
I think most of us never thought about the ‘Deep State’ until we saw the 2016 Presidential Election’s aftermath.  Then, as we witnessed a large part of the country go bat-crap-crazy berserk and talk of impeachment filled the air even before the incoming president even took the oath of office permeated everything, we slowly began to understand that yes, there is a Deep State and the Deep State has more power than any president will ever have unless a brave chief executive breaks its back.
Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower gave a farewell address[iii] prior to leaving office and warned of the dangers of the Cold War, lamented the fact that he was unable to engineer nuclear disarmament, and curiously warned of the dangers of the ‘military-industrial complex.’
At the time, many were puzzled by such an admission that such a thing even existed but it did and over the intervening decades, we have seen freight trains full of evidence that is alive, well, and ever-growing like the parasite that it is.  In fact, it could very well determine who is and who is not president and whenever ‘mistakes’ or ‘errors’ occur, finds a way to engineer a change at the ‘top.’
Look at all the hubbub over President Donald Trump’s removal of a miniscule number of U.S. troops from northern Syria.  Yes, I get it, the Syrian Kurds worked with us to destroy ISIS (as well as to form their own independent homeland which the Turks are having no part of) and it sucks to abandon allies but it wouldn’t be the first time- remember South Vietnam, Democrats?
Turkey is part of NATO and Syria’s Kurds are not.  And, it’s true that our president could have done a better job of explaining why he was doing what he was doing, not saying that the ‘Kurds did not help us on Normandy Beach,’ which is silly, but we get what he meant.
Whether Turkey should be part of NATO or not is a discussion for another day.  Personally, I think they pose a danger to the southern flank of the alliance and that the sooner we remove our nukes and relocate them elsewhere the better.  We also know that when George W. Bush wanted to invade Iraq, the Turks pulled their approval of a northern front for coalition troops to invade leaving them to invade northward out of Kuwait and thereby extending the fiasco.   That, too, is a story for another day.
The point of it all is this: WHY are so many people fuming over the removal of the troops from Syria?  I get it, ISIS is still skulking about but if we executed the prisoners which was the way until the world became ‘civilized’ and quailed at a suggestion such as this, any combatant out of uniform- i.e., terrorists, irregulars, guerillas, and spies- captured in the field could be executed…but I digress…again.
More people in government or employed by government have their hands in the military-intelligence pot whether it is politicians who are able to appoint friends and supporters and donors (and family) to various positions and posts as well as invest in the various industries that manufacture the tools and weapons of war and then distribute them.  Big bucks, folks, proof of the military-industrial complex as President Eisenhower said.
When money is involved along with the handing out of jobs, careers, and posts to people close to the politicians or political appointments, people will go to great lengths to protect it, perhaps even kill for it.
We cannot forget that President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated, a case that remains as mysterious today as the Roswell ‘UFO crash’ back in the late 1940s.  Remember what Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY, said to the media following Donald Trump becoming president?  That ‘if you feud with the intelligence community, it has six ways to Sunday to get even with you?’  What the heck did that mean?
Well, we know what it meant.  Since becoming president, the intelligence community has been at war with the Trump administration and Deep State operatives have risen to the top, scumbags such as John Brennan, James Clapper, and other denizens of the deep such as James Comey, Andrew McCabe, and now all the State Department scum rising to the top of the stagnant pond water all trying to remove or drive a duly-elected president out of office.
We will continue with more of this tomorrow so I hope that all of you will return and join me.  This issue is an important one, one the American people must face full on and it is not about removing a president whom you might dislike but protecting our elections, our leaders, and stopping the unelected lifelong political hacks from being the REAL power and not the elected leaders.
See you tomorrow.

Back in the day, I was working at a hotel in Bakersfield, California, down on Union Avenue where I met Stinkbug.  It was still nice at the time, and the area was still the original "restaurant row" of the city.  Now, I am over 70 years old and work over in Santa Barbara, CA, as a food and beverage director for a fine-dining country club.  The pictures you see here of me are facsimiles created by up-and-coming Bakersfield, California, street artist, the famed Simone.  Clever work, dude, clever work.
