SUMMER SESSION 2019

BLOG POST #3,197 AT THE AICP-END

460 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

Tuesday night’s debate was between the moderates and the ultra-liberal progressives and the former out-pointed the latter…
Wasco, CA, 08-02-2019 Friday:   As regular readers know, we tend to write ahead so we are not always quite current with events.  Therefore, that said, let me share some of my views re: the debate we watched on Tuesday night, the first night of Round No. 2.  All I hear is how much it is going to cost to provide this ‘benefit’ free and that one free and still more free.  At least they did not insult my intelligence this time around (unless I missed it) by telling me how U.S. citizens are going to pay for free this and that for noncitizens.  That might be music to the ears of young Marxists such as Antifa but to working Democrats such as my family and me, it’s not a winner.
I ask you, don’t the Democrats seeking to win the White House understand what a losing proposition it is to want to tax the middle class out of existence (as that is where the bulk of tax revenues emanates every single time an elected Democrat creates a social program) so we- America’s workingmen-and-women AND employers- can provide folks who have no desire to work as well as illegal aliens EVERYTHING they need to make their lives easier?  It is insane.   How about making ours easier, there government?
ET has been telling me the end could be coming and coming soon, hence WHY we might consider pulling up stakes, selling the restaurant, and moving to Texas, Florida, or Idaho and beginning our lives anew although we are a bit old for starting over.
What’s more, he tells me that as a Democrat, HE no longer recognizes the party claiming to represent our family or many other Democrats we know.  He says it is rapidly becoming a freak show and that we have ringside seats to watch these nonviable candidates continue promising the sun, the moon, and the stars to virtually everyone without nary a cent of cost other than on the BACK END via taxes ripped from our back pockets.
Now, I love California, always have, and leaving here would be difficult.  However, hyper-progressive liberal control is transforming our state from cutting edge to cutting edge disaster what with open borders, homeless encampments that rival the populations in some New England states, and the prospect of out-of-control disease outbreaks has many people fearful as to what the future holds next.
Nowhere does one hear a single Democrat seeking the White House talk about the homeless crisis, about public health (other than taking over the health care system and having the government run it), but they sure do love talking about giving everything away free while picking our pockets as I mentioned in an earlier paragraph.  This is not a strategy to win and better the nation; no, it’s a strategy to lose the election and get nothing done other than to continue sniping from the sidelines.
On Tuesday night, we heard two distinct camps going after one another: the far-left, ultra-liberals and the moderate wing.  The latter group featured Governor Stephen Bullock of Montana, a deep red state where Trump won big, as well as Governor John Hickenlooper, Congressman Tim Ryan, and former Maryland congressman John Delaney.
The former group contained Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, Marianne Williamson (who is this woman?), Beto O’Rourke, and Amy Klobuchar.  While some say Senator Klobuchar is a moderate, as far as I can see, she is swinging for the parking lot and beyond like the other liberal candidates so she belongs with the progressive wing.
The big battle was over the COST of providing all these government-provided goodies with the far-left candidates going ballistic when challenged on their views.  I also think the moderators leapt in when the moderates were making sense and shut them down as quickly as possible such as them silencing both Congressman Ryan and Mr. Delaney.
Both candidates made some powerful points.  Somewhere, someone is going to have to PAY for all the promised Halloween goodies that Senators Warren and Sanders want to bestow on all of us.
However, when asked exactly how, both Bernie and Liz underwent meltdowns and it was striking how much of their own moonshine they are drinking.  Going to cost $30 trillion (with a capital ‘T’) over what, the next five to ten years to do the FREE health care thing and put the ‘Green New Deal’ into play?  Where is this money coming from?
As I said, both Sanders and Warren got angry when questioned about the money.  Here is what Warren said following a dust-off with Mr. Delaney:
“I don’t understand why anybody goes to all the trouble of running for president of the United States just to talk about what we really can’t do and shouldn’t fight for,” said Warren, a Massachusetts senator, decrying Democratic ‘spinelessness.’” (Associated Press, 31-July-2019).
As for Mayor Pete, you know, when I hear HIM quoting the Good Book, I am alarmed, I will admit.  My family and I, we are Southern Baptists, black Baptists, and while we do our best to be accepting of all, I can tell you, his support is going to dry up when he leaves the coasts to go into the interior or down into the Old South.
While it might sound homophobic to you, I do not see black Americans flooding out to vote for Mayor Pete, even if he promises reparations.  I don’t mean it as an insult but black Americans my age are not going to flood the streets to vote for a gay Democrat, no matter how nice he might seem on the surface.
As for quoting the Bible every chance he gets, Mr. Buttigieg, you are not going to earn my vote.  Sorry.
Join me tomorrow and we will continue with yet more.  Thanks.

This is a cartoon caricature of me when I was working at a restaurant in Wasco, CA, my hometown.  The up-and-coming Bakersfield, California, street artist Simone did portraits of each of us here at the blog so I hope you like them as much as I, ahem, do.  Ah, well, I joined the Chefs de Cuisine of Greater Bakersfield, ACF, not long after it was chartered and am still a member even though the chapter is no longer in operation.  I began working in foodservice in the late 1960’s, moved from Wasco, CA, to Monterey, CA, and then returned to my hometown in 2004.  I have been a food server, a Mixologist, and am a Certified Cook.  I am equally at home in both the kitchen and behind the bar (and on the floor, too).  My passions are numerous, and my favorite is working in the bakery whenever I have had a chance.
