SUMMER SESSION 2019

BLOG POST #3,195 AT THE AICP-END

462 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

Instead of feigning outrage over the condition of YOUR city, Congressman Cummings, why not admit it is a mess?
Wasco, CA, 07-3-2019 Wednesday: Well, we know what the candidates in the debates among Democrats are going to be talking about tonight.  There is going to be a massive amount of mock and/or feigned outrage over Donald Trump trash-talking Charm City, the home of Rep. Elijah Cummings, a strong voice in the battle for civil rights in this country, because of his hypocrisy, which is embarrassing to attentive Americans.
Sadly (and it pains me to say it), many of the cities in the icy grip of my party have struggled, grappled for a long, long time with the problems bedeviling them.  Los Angeles, California, is a no-go zone for my family and me just as we would never travel to any of the great cities surrounding the San Francisco Bay because they simply are not safe and the prospect of getting a dangerous disease scares the heck out of us.
If the rats and vermin are out of control in Los Angeles as everyone knows them to be then I bet Baltimore is a hellacious place, too, something Senator Bernie Sanders pointed out a few years ago when he toured the place and said it was ‘worse than a Third World country.’
As a Christian woman, I am aware that rampant drugs cause widespread crime, broken homes, families on the street, poverty, mental illness, and other scourges of modern society and that one can only do so much through generous donations to the local church as well as helping hands for those in need wherever my family and I can give them.
The problem with Baltimore and Rep. Cummings’ hostility over the words of President Trump is this: WE have watched the crime show, The Wire, and the depiction of Charm City in that program is not good; in fact, I bet it’s right on the money.  Government can throw millions and millions of dollars into the rathole (no pun intended) and the target of the cash can still come out smelling like a backed-up sewer, bubbling up in one’s bathtub and commode.
Something else that I find bothersome is making EVERYTHING about race.  I am a black woman, born and raised in Wasco, California, a community my family and I continue giving to, so I know what racism is because we have experienced here.
Many believe that California knows little to nothing about racism when in fact, this area had active Ku Klux Klan participation (although I have never heard about burning crosses on the lawns of black neighborhoods as was common throughout the South yet, racism existed here and it was ugly, extremely ugly).
West Baltimore has to be as bad as Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit, New York, and other big American cities where, I am ashamed to say, members of my party have long held sway.  Billions of dollars always seems earmarked to combat a variety of societal problems yet nothing ever seems to happen at ground level in the neighborhoods and streets most in need of the aid.
The murder rate in Baltimore rivals that of El Salvador, one of the most violent and despicable criminal breeding grounds in the Western Hemisphere.  Crime is rampant, people live in fear, and what the heck is Rep. Cummings and other Democrat leaders doing other than to attack President Trump rather than going home to their cities and doing something to alleviate the pain and misery of their poorest citizens.
In 2018, President Donald Trump has given a sum of $18 billion in community development grants and the like so I would love to know, where the heck is this money going?  This money was sent to the district of Congressman Cummings so what the heck, sir, where is that money going and what the heck is happening with it?  Is this rebuilding the waterfront, you know, the thing we all complain about, the gentrification of once-black owned areas and neighborhoods or is it going into the pockets of politicians?
From what I hear, $30 million per week flows into the district of Rep. Cummings.  This is a sum of money so great, so transformative, that it could rebuild the crumbling streets and tenement buildings and then some.  The money does not have to go there, I am sure someone else would be able to put the funds to better use and yet, there it is, going into a bottomless pit from which nothing ever seems to escape.
This mess came out of the fact that the hypocrite, Congressman Cummings, was attacking the individual sitting before his committee, saying all sorts of things about the horrible conditions on the border.
The reason the president jumped into the fray is that as he said, the claims were ‘untrue as to what was occurring down there,’ but in Baltimore, West Baltimore to be precise, the streets are full of feces, drug paraphernalia, homeless, impoverished people, and despair.  Hence, WHY YOU ain’t fixing the problems in YOUR district?
Then we have Juan Williams.  This man, how the heck does he speak for OUR community when he knows little to nothing about it?  Look, I get it, you don’t like Mr. Trump, there is much there to dislike.  However, the First Step Act and low black unemployment says he is doing something beneficial for OUR people.
What the heck, can’t you just wake the heck up and see that things are improving for many black Americans and could get better for all of them if perhaps, we maybe lower the temperature in the kitchen and get back to doing the work of the American people no matter the color of their skin?  People might calm down a bit instead of walking about at a fever pitch all the time.  Gosh, I hope we can get things back together.
Please, meet me back here tomorrow and we will continue our dialog.

This is a cartoon caricature of me when I was working at a restaurant in Wasco, CA, my hometown.  The up-and-coming Bakersfield, California, street artist Simone did portraits of each of us here at the blog so I hope you like them as much as I, ahem, do.  Ah, well, I joined the Chefs de Cuisine of Greater Bakersfield, ACF, not long after it was chartered and am still a member even though the chapter is no longer in operation.  I began working in foodservice in the late 1960’s, moved from Wasco, CA, to Monterey, CA, and then returned to my hometown in 2004.  I have been a food server, a Mixologist, and am a Certified Cook.  I am equally at home in both the kitchen and behind the bar (and on the floor, too).  My passions are numerous, and my favorite is working in the bakery whenever I have had a chance.

SPECIAL ALBUMS OF THE DAY:

Posted @ the Wednesday, November 07, 2012 Blog Post:

Love released their next album, a compilation, “The Best of Love,” on March 06, 2003.  As we say with every other band we present here at the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day, if you have yet to get in on the ground floor with this legendary band, this is an excellent way in which you can do it.  We hope you will seek this must-own effort and add it to your growing CD and LP collection.  It emanates from one of the all-time great seminal psychedelic rock bands, one with so much promise that it boggles the mind to consider what might have been.  Please, give it a good listen and see if you agree.

Posted @ the Saturday, August 02, 2014 Blog Post B:

After the shock “Burnin’ Sky” caused fans of Bad Company, the band returned to rock form with their next album, “Desolation Angels” (March 17, 1979).  The song, “Rock and Roll Fantasy” was a massive radio hit as was “Gone, Gone, Gone.”  Add to this “Early in the Morning,” “Oh, Atlanta,” and “Rhythm Machine” and one has an album for the ages.  Once again, the same lineup delivers another smoker for the ages.  We hope you will seek this album out by visiting your favorite site for nothing but the absolute best in rock-and-roll music.  You will enjoy this one, of that, have NO doubts.
