SPRING SESSION 2019

BLOG POST #3,148 AT THE AICP-END

509 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

Poor Joe Biden…I don’t think he’s going to make it to the end of the campaign, much less become president
San Diego, CA, 06-14-2019 Friday:  I was watching former vice president Joe Biden on TV the other day, a man I used to admire years ago, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, giving a speech to an assembled audience of about 250 lackadaisical supporters.  I cannot imagine him as he is now, old, tired, mumbling and stumbling over words, it is sad, he’s sort of like a ghost of his old self, something that he- like Hillary Clinton- can blame on their old buddy, former president Barack Obama.
In 2008, Hillary was steamrolling along, destined to win the nomination of her party to replace outgoing president George W. Bush.  Then, out of the blue, people started rallying to then-senator Barack Obama, a man with less than one full term in the U.S. Senate, as an attractive alternative.
At the time, it was shocking.  I was a Democrat back then and intended to vote for Hillary but then, her husband Bill was overheard saying some racist things and it opened the door for her fellow Democrats to follow then-senator Ted Kennedy’s lead and move to the pliable man with a minimal paper trail who eventually became president.
In 2016, then-president Obama had no choice other than to aid his former political enemy, his former secretary-of-state to win the nomination.  In politics, this is what you do.  I am sure he was conflicted at the time but his sitting vice president was told ‘not this time, Joe’ and gracefully, Vice President Biden agreed.  In essence, he took one for the team even though four years later, it would prove extremely tiring for him.
Now, poor old Joe, the groper, the close-talker, the overly-aggressive hugger is struggling along.  He looks tired, he sounds aged as he gropes for words (and not women and young girls) so he can maintain his tottering momentum.  It is a tragedy to behold that must have his supporters in an emotional quandary as there are so many livelier left-of-center politicians- like Liz Warren or little Mayor Pete- who could go farther with the nomination that the doddering old man.   In truth, watching him makes me sad.
The world of politics is incredibly difficult.  One must be ‘on’ all the time and an ill-timed gaff can be the death of a run.  As we all know, former vice president Joe Biden is a gaff machine, a belching carburetor of noxious gas, asinine mistakes and comments, yet the only friend he truly has in the world right now are the unions which cling to him like drowning men to driftwood.
Like my colleague Chef Olaf mentioned last week, IF President Donald J. Trump could find a way to strike a deal with AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka that would bring labor back to the camp of PATRIOTISM and out of the left-wing camp, that would be akin to St. George slaying the dragon.
I think it’s a great idea as imagine if BIG LABOR said “NO” to illegal aliens but “YES” to higher wages, better benefits, and the like if all they would do was to return to being the hardhats beating the living snot out of protesting Yippies.  There is NO reason of which, I know as to WHY BIG LABOR should continue clinging to a political party that wants to put them out of business by implementing policies that cut jobs and slash wages, while giving EVERYTHING to illegal aliens.
President Trump is working hard at adding to his minority voting base by enabling millions of people heretofore unable or incapable of finding a good-paying job.  He also is doing his best to court the votes of people who have suffered at the hands of the American system of justice by giving them a new lease on life by getting deserving people out of prison early.  What’s not to like about that?
Back to the Democrat candidates in general and poor old Joe Biden in particular, how do you compete against these incredibly visible improvements in the lives of people?  Yes, you can claim the economy belongs to Barack Obama which- BUZZ! (the sound of a buzzer in a game show)- it does not just as you can claim that Republicans HATE minorities, gays, women, Jews, and everyone else you like to dump in the GOP pot of hate.
I can tell you, the GOP hates no one, they welcome everyone.  Even though I re-registered as an independent, as you can imagine, I am voting Republican and have been welcomed to the party along with members of my family.  Enough is enough, we like what we see, yes, we may not always like certain attributes of the one doing the giving, but again, we like what we see and will continue following him.
If the Republicans could only get with the program and assist President Trump more, we could accomplish even more.  However, I do believe that a reckoning is coming and the ones that need weeding out will get a good theoretical dose of Roundup® weed killer to root them out in 2020.
Friends, that will do it for you good amigo today; hopefully, we will discuss China tomorrow and how we must force them to the bargaining table by launching a Radio Free China deep into the bowels of their country in the hopes of seeing their government topple- enough with ripping us off and enough with Mr. Biden saying that China is ‘not a threat.’

FEATURED ALBUM OF THE DAY:

Anyone who knows the classic “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare knows what a joy it is to behold.  A great comedy, it is the story of Theseus, the Duke of Athens, and his marriage to Hippolyta.  All manner of divine and comedic events occur which is why it is such fun.  Steve Hackett (guitars/bass/harmonica/vocals) released his musical accompaniment to the story, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra” on April 01, 1997.  Besides Hackett, his brother John Hackett provides some flute solos and Matt Dunkley serves as the orchestra’s conductor.  This is a pure joy to behold, ear candy for all who love classical music with an upbeat to be sure.  In the same way that Procol Harum performed with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra back in, we believe, 1971, this is a wonderful mingling of new and old.  Please, seek it out and enjoy.

SPECIAL ALBUMS OF THE DAY:

Posted @ the Saturday, September 22, 2012 Blog Post:

Santana released the group’s next ‘best of,’ a 2-disc compilation, “Viva Santana!” on August 15, 1988.  This effort did extremely well back in the day because it contained live versions of his best tunes (along with some new originals) culled from his first three decades of music.  This is a worthy effort to add to one’s growing album and CD collection because there is nothing better than hearing this amazing group’s classics.  This phenomenal artist has gifted the world with his utterly amazing talent, something people around the globe celebrate and love.  You will indeed enjoy it- we guarantee it.

Posted @ the Thursday, July 10, 2014 Blog Post A:

Led Zeppelin put out its next studio album, the controversial (at the time), “Led Zeppelin III” on October 05, 1970.  Unlike the first two heavy-rock-blues sound, the band incorporated more ethereal psychedelic and British acoustic tunes which left some fans feeling, ‘WTF?’  Still, with the big radio hit, “Immigrant Song,” the album grew on one until it eventually became one of their biggest hits among their fans.  We hope you will seek this album out and add it to your collection as it is entirely delightful.  We know you will love it as much as we do.
