FALL SESSION 2018

BLOG POST #2,963 AT THE AICP-END

694 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

While our party’s leadership might be somewhat ‘old,’ we cannot allow wet-behind-the-ears newcomers to get in the way of our agenda
Arvin, CA, 12-11-2018 Tuesday:  As everyone reading this blog knows by now, I am a loyal, lifelong member of the Democratic Party and even though I consider myself to be a Blue Dog Democrat, which I know is sort of admitting to be a ‘fossil,’ I understand where the younger, more vibrant members are coming from.  I comprehend that there is a need for fresh infusions of blood into the party seeing as how we have far too many ancient heads, hands, and feet in positions of prominence but some of the young ones I am seeing startle the heck out of me.
Take for instance the one some of my colleagues here at the blog have labeled the “Baby Evita” because she is a hot little, buck-toothed Puerto Rican chick who has absolutely NO business being in politics, yet there she is.  Out there leading likeminded dummies to storm the office of once and future House Speaker Nancy Pelosi protesting the congresswoman’s ‘views’ on climate change.
Climate change is a real problem, one that the developed nations of the world must solve as if we fail to do so within the time remaining to us, our planet will either end up like the planets Mars or Venus, depending upon which way our toxic pollutant levels and carbon output take us.  Some speculate we have but a decade or two at the most before there is no turning things around and our species dies along with the rest of the planet.
Now, I know last week that my friend and colleague, Chef Pedro- a man who turned his back on the Democratic Party and did the easy thing of becoming a political independent said the Paris Climate Accord was little more than a load of festering, stinking dog crap, dehydrating- as we watch- in the sunlight.
I think the President pulling the United States out of the accord was a big mistake as the world requires the leadership and the guidance of the world’s number one leader to keep things on track.  If we pull out, so will China, Russia, and much of the developing nations who came onboard only because they believed we would be there to lead them and to demonstrate that if we can cut emissions then so can they.  Now, everything is up in the air.
Chef Pedro pointed out that when implemented, carbon taxes have caused the violent, anti-government dustups we see happening across France.  He says that driving the cost of energy up has dramatic and dire consequences for any developed nation.
Moreover, El Pedro said that with gasoline over seven dollars a gallon in France and with the costs of heating their homes and businesses this winter going up at an alarming rate, the people of that country might topple their government if that is what is required to have what Pedro considers to be the ‘return of sane, stable government.’
Look, embarking on a crusade to save the planet is costly, it can cost jobs, can make people uncomfortable when it comes to driving their cars or heating/cooling their homes.  However, is it not more important to have a planet in 20-30 years than using one’s car or keeping one’s home at a toasty 70-degrees, if not warmer?
We who live here in the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley understand what hotter summers and colder winters mean.  Our temperatures have been creeping up the last decade or so to the point that we are approaching Death Valley summertime temperatures.
At the same time, our winters are becoming more frigid.  Of course, we very seldom have snow here but if they continue becoming colder and as rainfall returns, we will see it on the mountains surrounding us and who knows?  Maybe on the ground in freak snowstorms?  I guess, we shall see.
My colleagues here also have blasted forest mismanagement as the cause of the massive wildfires that have destroyed towns such as Paradise, California, and burnt through hundreds of thousands of acres of wildland around the state over the past several years.  None of this is normal.
Yet, those who scoff that Climate Change is a real and threatening problem ALWAYS blast local and state government for allowing the underbrush to get out of control in our state and national forests which when set ablaze then become uncontrollable catastrophes that destroy hundreds of millions to a billion or more dollars in property damage.  We cannot put a price tag on lives lost.
I would love it if my colleagues would take the blinders off, open their eyes, and see the danger awaiting us in the not-too-distant future, a danger that already has propelled millions of refugees to flee their homes and to seek refuge elsewhere around  the world where the threat of destruction caused by the warming of the planet is less severe.
Yet, when these people show up on our borders, we give them the thumbs down and do our best to turn them away rather than welcoming them in, treating their health problems, and giving them the care that our Christian faith dictates us to give them.  What has happened to our country?
In closing, I look forward to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi getting things back on track.  I hope the President will cooperate with her but if not, then we will have to remove him from office before his erratic behavior and his disbelief in all science put our nation and hence the entire planet at risk.
Thanks for joining me today; I will see you tomorrow at both blogs so make sure you are here and on time.

This is a facsimile of me as a young chef back in the 1960's when I was working as a sous chef at a fine dining restaurant, the Victor Hugo, over on the coast around Newport, California.  I began my career working as a pot washer at the age of 10, move to washing dishes in 1958, became a chef's apprentice in 1961 and have been a career professional ever since.  I am still involved in professional foodservice as a consultant for food and beverage professionals.  Famed Bakersfield street artist Simone created the cartoonish figure of me, which appears to be ‘me’ but I hope I look better than how he portrayed me.  You are the judge.

FEATURED ALBUM OF THE DAY:

Wishbone Ash released their next live album, “Warriors” on August 29, 2003.  One gets a variety of tunes from the band’s early career into the 1980s with an emphasis on the heavier, rocking tunes.  When the band was hot, they were extremely hot and if you want the God’s honest truth, they were always, always smoking hot.  We urge everyone to use the link we provide you here so you can visit Amazon.com where you can get it in the format, the condition, and the price that works best for you- you will be glad you did.  We appreciate your patronage.

SPECIAL ALBUMS OF THE DAY:

Posted @ the Sunday, March 20, 2012 Blog Post:

The Doors record label released another ‘best of’ compilation on December 24, 2003,” “Boot Yer Butt: the Doors Bootlegs.”  In an effort to halt the proliferation of bootleg recordings of the band, Robby Krieger compiled some of the best illicit recordings, cleaned them up, and released them as a package.   We wholeheartedly recommend it and urge the readership to use the link we provide you here so you can visit Amazon.com.  Once there, pick it up in the format, the condition, and the price that works best for you- you will be glad you did.

The second album released by the British mod-rock band, the Small Faces, “From the Beginning,” came out on June 02, 1967.  The band had left their original record label to move to the Immediate label that Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham set up for the other acts he planned to represent.  Their former label, Decca, compiled some of the original hits with unreleased material and put out this exciting effort.  We hope you will use the link we provide you here so you can visit Amazon.com.  Once there, you can pick it up in the format, the condition, and the price that works best for you- you will love it as much as we do.
