SUMMER SESSION 2018

BLOG POST #2,859 AT THE AICP-END

SEVENTY-ONE DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2018

We say farewell to Senator John McCain- in a way
Honolulu, HI, 08-29-2018 Wednesday:  Once again, Hawaii has dodged a bullet of sorts, Hurricane Lane- although she clobbered the Big Island- caused relatively less havoc anywhere else in the chain.  Sure, wind and rain swirled all around us, the wind-surfers and board surfers went out and challenged the waves, but we did not suffer the devastating landfall that the Garden Isle- Kauai- during Iniki, back in 1992.  Thanks, Lord, for watching out for us.
The big news over the weekend was the death of Senator John McCain, R-AZ.  Dubbed a ‘maverick’ because of his willingness to cross the aisle and work with we Democrats, the Senator and President Trump did not get along all that well.
Many Democrats now celebrate someone whom during the presidential battles of 2008 they sought to rip apart, most notably when they accused the Senator of having been unfaithful to his wife in the months leading up to the election (or so I recall).
It is politics such as these that cause many voters to shrug their shoulders and decide to remain home.  President Trump is someone who loves descending into the muck pit to do battle with his enemies.  However, when the battles end, no one ever gives the President a pat on the shoulder for anything that he does.
The White House lowered the flag to half-staff for the required amount of time and yet, that was not enough time, my party’s outspoken liberal leaders wanted more.  Oh, well, what could President Trump do?
I mean, following the Senator’s criticisms of Donald J. Trump, the then-GOP candidate for president blasted Senator McCain’s status as a war hero so for him to come out and begin shedding alligator tears would have looked little more than crass opportunism and hypocrisy so let’s give the President a break on this one for now.
Politics is an ugly business and seemingly has become more so since Bill Clinton  was in office.  Many Democrats still bear anger over what they saw as a blatant attempt at removing a popular president all because he was engaging in clandestine sexual dalliances with a White House intern.
If an appalling affair such as the Clinton-Monica Lewinsky one were going on now, there would be cries demanding ouster of President Trump as there have been when the porn star, Stormy Daniels, and then the Playboy model, uh, I think, Karen McDougal, is her name, accused the President of having used them and then dumped them when he was a PRIVATE CITIZEN.
The #MeToo movement is as phony as it gets as whenever Democrats misbehave, we normally sweep their transgressions under the rug unless, of course, one is as big a reprobate as is former Congressman Anthony Weiner- that man had to go.
I believe that had the #MeToo movement existed when Bill Clinton was president that he still would have been absolved of his dire deeds.   That is, after all, how we roll.  We absolve our own and do our utmost to destroy one of theirs.  This is something I wish would stop.
Politics to me is a two-faced business, one in which, the people running for or who hold office seek ever-increasing amounts of cash so they can continue running for or holding office.  In effect, they sell themselves, either to right-wing or left-wing groups and no longer remember who or why they sought office in the first place.
Take Senator McCain for instance.  Every time he ran for another term, he would move far to the right to cut off any conservative challengers.  Then, when he was safely out of electoral danger, he would move back to the center-left, which I know suited we Dems many times.  This, I know, infuriated numerous of my blog colleagues who saw him more as a Democrat than as a Republican.
I know how they feel.  No one ever knows what a politician is going to do from one day to another.  We all want security, freedom from the worry of job loss, business closure, cheap labor pricing citizen labor out of any attempt at bettering their lives.
As a business owner and operator with my husband, we know the lure of cheap labor that comes with the employing of illegal aliens, visa overstays, and others who lack the right to be here but who are still here.  We have a duty to hire our fellow citizens but the great hotels that crisscross our islands seemingly do not feel the same way.  I guess it is what it is.
Senator McCain was for open borders as is Chuck Schumer, Mazie Hirono, and numerous others.  Although they will not say it outright, we still know what it is they seek and many Democrats such as my family and me wish they would put the needs of the American people first.
Aloha.

Up-and-coming Bakersfield, California, street artist, Simone, created this cartoonish caricature of me so we can keep our identities on the down low due to increasing threats, Web intrusions and threats, and so we do not lose our professional businesses because of our politics here at the AICP-END Blogs.
That said, I began my career in the early 1970’s when I apprenticed to cook under one of the masters on the Big Island where I was born.  I moved to Oahu in the early 1980’s after having worked in both Kona and Hilo, HI, and have been there for most of my professional career.
Moreover, I have also worked on Maui for a few years (1995-1998) and have been on Kauai (2001-2003) before returning to Honolulu.  My goal is to prepare the next generation of chefs for the future and to help the underprivileged in their struggle to attain careers in the foodservice industry.

FEATURED ALBUM OF THE DAY:

The DVD version of the album with the same name, “Memories in Rock- Live in Germany” by the newest version of Rainbow came out on November 26, 2016 and features Ritchie Blackmore (guitars), Ronnie Romero (vocals), Jens Johannsson (keyboards), Bob Nouveau (bass/backing vocals), David Keith (drums), and Candice Night (vocals) (along with another female backup singer).  Fans give it a sort of ‘ho-hum’ review but it is obvious that Richie has slowed down with age but hey, the guy is up there so let’s give the man and the album a break.  Check out the 2-CD set by using the link we provide you here so you can visit the greatest online marketplace in the world, Amazon.com where you can pick it up in the format, condition, and price that works best for you.  Let us know what YOU think.
