THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CULINARY POLITICS-ELEMENTAL NEWS OF THE DAY COMMENTARY-OPINION-SPORTS-FOOD SERVICE FOR FRIDAY, AUGUST 31, 2018 BY CHEF CHERYL LA TIGRE

SUMMER SESSION 2018

BLOG POST #2,861 AT THE AICP-END

SIXTY-NINE DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2018

Free health care for illegal aliens- BUT NOT FOR CITIZENS!- in California?  What the f**k is wrong with the Democrats?
Honolulu, HI, 08-31-2018 Friday:  Here it is, the final day of August 2018 and boy, oh, boy, the year is roaring by us.  I guess writing posts every six months compacts time for us because when I hear from Rollie that my time is approaching so I need to get ready, I rush to the calendar in the chef’s office to see, “Is it that time already?  Yes, I guess it is” so I had better book a flight if I am coming to Bakersfield or start tapping out the posts so I can send them via email.
We are on the countdown now to Election Day in November and in some places, hot elections and fiery rhetoric are the sounds of the day.  Here in Hawaii, I seriously doubt we will witness any upsets of note but then, one never knows for sure.  There could be an uprising here that will be one for the record books but again, I seriously doubt it.
I do know, however, that much is going on in California at the moment and that the race between heavy favorite Democrat Gavin Newsom and outsider and dead meat (or so the Democrats say) Republican John Cox, is generating some heat.
We love California, we love coming to the state and blowing off steam in the many ono Native American casinos that dot the state.  Therefore, we keep our ears to the ground and our eyes to the TV to see what is going on in the fabulous Golden State.
Lalo and I always blanch at the goofiness going on in the state capital, Sacramento.  The city is beautiful, old and new at the same time, with beautiful trees, quaint streets and avenues, and unique restaurants.
Democrats control the state’s politics but are unlike the Democrats back home in Hawaii, they seem to have lost their senses.  The big item on the Gavin Newsom agenda is to provide—free of charge—health care to ALL illegal aliens.  Say what?
We know the criticism of socialism is that at some point, the government will run out of other people’s money as those wealthy folks will either pull up stakes and move somewhere else more conducive to the protection of their finances or in places like Venezuela where the ‘revolution’ most likely imprisons or kills them to steal their wealth.
The message I receive when I hear something feelgood such as taxpayer-funded free health care for ALL illegal aliens (but not for citizens) tells me the level of importance the state’s Democratic leaders place upon their legions of illegals
We do not even talk lolo like this back in Hawaii, we know there is a point where the taxpayers will find themselves reduced to the level of those who receive some form of government assistance.  We already have a plague of homeless people, unfortunates shipped here from the Mainland who already siphon off much of our social safety net.
I enjoy reading the papers whenever we come to the Mainland and take plenty of them home with me when we return.  California state Senator Ricardo Lara authored a bill back in May of this year, SB 974, that would force the taxpayers to pick up what he estimates as an annual cost of $3 billion for the illegal aliens.
Even I, a longtime Democrat, know this is crazy talk as NO one can do something such as this without seriously harming the economy and destroying the will of future workers to move up into more lucrative endeavors.  I mean, why would you want to strive to achieve greater economic prosperity if it means government is going to tax you that much more?  This is Animal Farm in a nutshell.
Here in Hawaii, we already have a housing crisis because we have 2-3, sometimes 4 generations living in the same home or in cottages built upon parts of our property.  Jobs that pay well are not all that abundant and the cost of living can be very prohibitive.  The only way one can succeed here is to own one’s business and employ family or go to work for government.
I fear that if Gavin Newsom wins the gubernatorial race in California, this scion of wealthy parents and big donor backers is going to thrust the dagger to the hilt in the heart of the state.
We already see the transformation of a once-productive state into a Third World cesspool.  Try flying into LAX and then driving through the city or on the freeways traversing it to see homeless encampments under every overpass or in every vacant lot.
If one flies into San Francisco, the devastation is even more appalling.  Used needles and feces in the street.  I am telling you, go to Golden Gate Park and tramps and hobos and drug addicts yank their drawers down and take a dump right in front of you.  It is no place to take one’s kids or grandkids.
I hope Californians come to their senses.  Although I feel somewhat unpatriotic suggesting Democrats seek another option such as John Cox to be their governor, I feel I have no choice other than to do so because I love the state.  I do not want to see it become a part of the Third World.
People, the 2018 Mid-Term Elections provide us a stark choice: move right towards the light or left towards unaffordable, radical, dictatorial policies that will enable modern-day leftist losers to achieve total power, much to the detriment of the people they rule.

Up-and-coming Bakersfield, California, street artist, Simone, created this cartoonish caricature of me so we can keep our identities on the down low due to increasing threats, Web intrusions and threats, and so we do not lose our professional businesses because of our politics here at the AICP-END Blogs.
That said, I began my career in the early 1970’s when I apprenticed to cook under one of the masters on the Big Island where I was born.  I moved to Oahu in the early 1980’s after having worked in both Kona and Hilo, HI, and have been there for most of my professional career.
Moreover, I have also worked on Maui for a few years (1995-1998) and have been on Kauai (2001-2003) before returning to Honolulu.  My goal is to prepare the next generation of chefs for the future and to help the underprivileged in their struggle to attain careers in the foodservice industry.
