SUMMER SESSION 2018

BLOG POST #2,800 AT THE AICP-END

ONE HUNDRED-AND-AND-TWENTY-EIGHT DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2018

Eighteen months ago, the prospect of Donald Trump being able to name another justice to the Supreme Court would have caused me to consider suicide
Arvin, CA, 07-01-2018 Sunday: As the week screeches to its predestined conclusion, there is much angst among Democrats as Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy has announced that he is going to retire, which means, President Donald J. Trump is going to get another opportunity to put another conservative justice onto the court.  I will admit, a year-and-a-half ago, I would have been deeply appalled, troubled by the idea that a president whom I viewed as being a ‘bandit’ more so than a true American patriot, I would have been yanking the hair remaining to me out of my head.  I would have been considering suicide.
Now, however, I see things beginning to work such as recent Supreme Court decisions allowing President Trump to exercise who can come into the country and from where as well as the one that allows people not wishing to participate in labor unions the right not to have to pay dues, much of which, union bosses use to fund Democrat politicians.
If Democrats in power want money, they need to go out and raise it in the old-fashioned way instead of doing it via the smoke-filled rooms I thought we were supposed to despise
Back in February 2017, I was still hot under the collar over what happened in the 2016 Presidential Election and shared my thoughts on it in some of my posts.  The Democrat Party has suffered numerous losses and embarrassments since President Trump entered office and we are going to continue suffering more and more if we do not grasp the bull by the balls and yank him around to what the people want, not what the elected leaders want.
Look at what happened to Congressman Joe Crowley, Democrat-New York, a 10-term member of the House who went down in flames to newcomer, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, someone calling herself a ‘Democratic-Socialist.’
We are on the cusp of electoral disaster here because I sincerely doubt that going down the path of ‘socialism’ is going to cause our party to suffer massive defeat at the ballot box, not earn us more votes.
To me, Bernie Sanders’ amazing run in 2016 was just that, a flash in the pan, for Pete’s sake, there is no way that Senator Sanders will ever win a presidential election, even if the party apparatus gets out of his way and permits him to run unopposed for the nomination.
Do not get me wrong, I like Senator Sanders, he is sort of like one’s creepy uncle who comes over on holidays, a relative whom you are glad to see but are even happier when he gives his good-bye hugs and kisses, walks out the front door, and goes home.   The only reason he lost the nomination is because the apparatchiks were pulling for Hillary.
However, there is no way in my view that candidate Ocasio-Cortez can beat a liberal Republican and win the seat.  Setting aside the giddiness of the Obama years and looking at what he actually accomplished, we see a legacy of unfinished business, turmoil, increased racial tension, and animosity between various groups of Americans.
I liked Barack Obama, I thought he was a unique man and that he could have been a great president had he been able to set aside his resentment of America and worked at healing the wounds inflicted upon it by previous administrations and the nation’s founding sin.
Instead of embracing the challenge and working to make things better in a positive way, government quickly devolved into a morass, the type of swamp that millions of Americans elected Donald J. Trump to drain, to fix.
Moreover, I do not like the years of back-and-forth verbal and physical attacks that occurred between our two main parties no more than I liked the Republicans being obstructionists and now the Democrats behaving in the same, deplorable way
At what point do we begin setting aside our differences and making things work in our country once again?  At what point do we set aside the misinformation and the unnecessary tension amongst various groups, tensions the media seems to feel are worth more if they exploit them than if they report honest and truthful news.
You see, the media is not supposed to SHAPE events; no, it is supposed to REPORT events and pundits are to provide commentary on events, not propagandize them for their own ends.   Besides, who controls who?  Do we control our politics or does the media control them?
I think some Democrats are ‘smelling the coffee’ now what with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer lambasting Congresswoman Maxine Waters over her advocating for violence against members of the Trump administration.
Nancy Pelosi, on the other hand cannot bring herself to mention her snarling attack dog by name but if she hopes to retain power, she sure as heck needs to get out there and call for Auntie Maxine to receive some very harsh tough love.  Besides, Pelosi could go down in smoking defeat soon, the way things are changing in the country.
As for Joe Crowley, shame on him.  The dunce blew off his challenger and the plucky little Puerto Rican socialist beat him like he was an old snare drum she found lying in a landfill.
Alas, Congressman Crowley was to be the ‘future’ whereas now, he joins former Republican Congressman Eric Cantor in the county dump.  Such is fate when one ignores what is going on around them.
As for President Trump filling the seat of Anthony Kennedy, while we may try to prevent it, we are going to fail and the longer we attempt to fight whoever the President nominates, the worse things are going to be for Democrats in November.  The tide is changing as is the mood and we are going to suffer massive defeats from one end of the nation to the other just as we did in 2010, 2012, 2014, and of course, the BIG ONE in 2016.
Maybe we need to seek some way by which, we can change our fortunes as if we do not, we are going to deserve every drubbing we get.

This is a facsimile of me as a young chef back in the 1960's when I was working as a sous chef at a fine dining restaurant, the Victor Hugo, over on the coast around Newport, California.  I began my career working as a pot washer at the age of 10, move to washing dishes in 1958, became a chef's apprentice in 1961 and have been a career professional ever since.  I am still involved in professional food service as a consultant for food and beverage professionals.  Famed Bakersfield street artist Simone created the cartoonish figure of me, which appears to be ‘me’ but I hope I look better than how he portrayed me.  You are the judge.

SUNDAY, JULY 01, 2018

On April 22, 2016, Deep Purple released a remastered live effort featuring the brief lineup of the Mk. IV lineup, David Coverdale (vocals), Glenn Hughes (bass and vocals), Ian Paice (drums), Tommy Bolin (guitars), and Jon Lord (keyboards).  “Live in Long Beach 1976” featured the band playing towards the end of their troubled career but with some intensity on this effort.  Drugs had bit deeply into the band, which is sad, but that was how it was at the time and why very few bands of the era survived.  We hope you will seek out this import gem from time by using the link we provide you here, so you can go directly to Amazon.com and once there, well, you can pick it up in the format, the condition, and the price that works best for you- you will be glad you did.

FEATURED ALBUM OF THE DAY:

On April 22, 2016Deep Purple released a remastered live effort featuring the brief lineup of the Mk.

SPECIAL ALBUMS OF THE DAY:

Saturday, October 08, 2011 Blog Post:

Having been fans of the Dead since the mid-1960s, it is a pleasure to see each release in the Dick’s Picks series flow one after the other.  This one from the Grateful Dead, “Dick’s Picks, Vol. 6—Hartford Civic Center, Connecticut, 10/14/83” (1996) is another wonderful addition to the band’s discography.  Here is the deal: many fans moan and grumble over certain periods, but we must face the facts: for any band to survive, it must undergo change at a constant pace.  The Dead are probably one of the most prolific bands out of San Francisco in the 1960s and they probably had more songs in their repertoire—both group and individual—than any other recording artist(s) in history.  Some complain about “Keep Your Day Job,” ah, well, to those fans living in the trenches, you know, the ones who listen every Sunday to the Grateful Dead Radio Hour in Washington State or wherever else one can find it, each song is an undiscovered gem awaiting discovery.  This is a fine album, the music is great, we urge everyone to seek it out by going to Amazon.com and picking it up in the format, the condition, and the price that is best for you—you can thank us later.
