BLOGPOST #2,762 AT THE AICP-END

ONE HUNDRED-AND-SIXTY-SIX DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2018

Environmentalists are not the only problem Hawaii faces
Kula, HI, 05-24-2018 Thursday:  The Green Meanies—how I refer to the scumbag environmentalists—have been on the warpath since President Donald J. Trump pulled the United States out of the Paris Climate Accords and continues to knock down one ‘green regulation’ after another so the nation can get back to work.  We hear almost around the clock as though it is propaganda being directed at us via a malevolent Deep State entity that if we do not return to the pacts that President Obama struck with the rest of the world, we face an environmental meltdown.
We here in Hawaii always used to be concerned with our environment, namely in conserving it, but the liberals running the Islands seem to believe that we can open our doors to anyone who wants to come here without finding ways with which, we can continue sustaining the state into the next century.
The fact is, the Islands are in peril.  Oh, it might not seem like that as more and more people flow into the state and take up residence, but it is.  One can see it in the growing lack of ‘wild country,’ like on Maui.
Once one could circumnavigate the entire island in a day (if one had the right vehicle, that is) and go through parts of it such as past the Seven Sacred Pools beyond Hana around the back side of Haleakala and up to Kula the back way without seeing signs of civilization.  Now, one sees it everywhere as people put up patchwork homesteads, so they can get it in on the diminishing land boom.
There is a great site online I would love to recommend to you: “Troubles in Hawaii” (see the references farther down this page).  The first problem is, since 1900, the population in the state has been on an upswing that never ends.  Now, we have more than 1.5 million people spread across the state with a population density of 1,468 people per square mile whereas a decade or so ago, it was 214 people per square mile.
The cost of living in the Islands is high, everything costs 30-percent more or higher than on the mainland.  People come here, they fall in love with the tropical splendor, and then try to find a way by which, they can remain here.
The cost of housing is astronomical as we have very little room to expand unless we penetrate the tropical rain forests on the eastern side of each island or onto volcanic wastelands such as behind the volcano on which, my family and I reside.  Once only the poor outsiders and the desperate erected their tents on the south (backside) of Haleakala but now, development is beginning to happen.
Most average houses range in price from $600,00 to $1 million and we are talking about average homes down in Kahului the main city on Maui where people fly in to visit or exit.
What’s more, we are talking about homes around the city that have little to no front yards, minimal backyards, many times dotted with cottages and second story additions, so generations of families can afford to live together as it is nigh impossible to find another home anywhere.
Add to this traffic congestion as we have very few four-lane roads with which to shuttle traffic around and very little public transportation of note other than a minimal bus system so when one wants to drive over to Lahaina, they must use the two-lane road leaving Kahului.  They do this after coming down from Upcountry and then driving the 30 or so miles that can take an hour or longer to get there due to high traffic levels.
Automobile accidents are frequent occurrences what with people driving junk cars because the cost of new ones and getting them dipped so they can withstand the salt air as well as insuring them is prohibitive.
Moreover, one finds abandoned cars and trucks all over the place, breaking down in rust and debris under the sun and polluting the environment.  No one has arrived at an equitable solution, so we can preserve our once pristine environment.
Homelessness ranks on a par with what one sees in Los Angeles or in other big California cities.  People set up tent cities, they mingle under overpasses and in state parks, they come from afar and remain here because for 10 months, one can live outdoors without having to confront chill weather.
Drugs are a problem as are crimes and although violent crimes such as homicide and rape are not as prevalent as they are on the Mainland, one can still face a violent assault if they venture into the wrong areas of the Islands such as if I went north from Wailuku into Happy Valley or out where the Tongans congregate on the West Side.
I believe before we allow more people to come here and settle, before we allow greater growth to further diminish the Islands bequeathed to us by our ancestors, and before we strip our dwindling resources to the point where energy costs, food costs, property costs, and car prices continue going up to the point where we will have but two classes—the wealthy and the poor—we put a moratorium on growth.
Sadly, I know this will rub many the wrong way—the Democrats—but it is what it is.  We must save Hawaii lest we have nothing to leave our kids.  See you tomorrow.

SPECIAL ALBUMS OF THE DAY:

The Grateful Dead are the king of the San Francisco bands as far as longevity, continuity, and commitment.  People love this band as do this, their second album, “Anthem of the Sun,” and we were released in 1968 is a worthy sophomore album.  This features the original line-up of Jerry GarciaBob WeirBilly KreutzmannPhil Lesh, and Ron “Pigpen” McKernan and a bunch of others.  This is probably their truest psychedelic album and is definitely a must-own!  Although the album has but a few songs, the tunes are lengthy extended pieces that swirl in and around one another.  This is one of the all-time greatest acid rock albums, one we heartily urge EVERYONE to buy and buy now!  Please take the handy link to Amazon.com, the world’s largest online retailer and buy it now!  You will not be disappointed!  Thank you, the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day.

Saturday, October 26, 2013 Blog Post:

Family released a great live album from the archives in 2006, entitled, simply “Live.”  The lineup features the one that recorded “Fearless” and “Bandstand,” although the band covers material from throughout their career up until that point.  Featured here are: vocalistRoger “Chappo” Chapmanguitarist Charlie Whitneybassist/vocalist John Wettondrummer Rob Townsend, and John “Poli” Palmer (vibes, piano, and flute).  As far as live efforts go, this is a great chestnut culled from the past, an all-too rare one to be sure, which is why we urge everyone of you to use the link here, so you can go to Amazon.com.  Once there, you can pick the CD up in the format that works best for you as well as the price and condition.  What more can one ask?  You will love this album, no doubts about it.
