SPRING SESSION 2018

BLOGPOST #2,724 AT THE AICP-END

TWO HUNDRED-AND-FOUR DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2018

Beware the military-industrial complex, President Trump
Bakersfield, CA, 04-16-2018 Monday:  It is good to be back as there is always so much to discuss.  Currently, here in Bakersfield, California, we are enjoying the last remaining days of COOL weather, knowing that soon—very soon, in fact—blazing sweltering summer is around the corner and we will be crackling and spitting like a suckling pig with an apple in its mouth on the spit.  From the end of April or early May (if we are lucky) onward, temperatures will soar into the low one-hundreds, and will remain that way until early October.  It is sad to live in an area in which, the low 90’s appears like a gift from Heaven.
On January 17, 1961, when President Dwight D. Eisenhower gave his farewell address to the nation, he made a statement that has languished in the back hallways of our collective national mind (folks who learned true history before the modern era) regarding what he called, “the military-industrial complex.”
The ‘military-industrial complex’ is something that all major nations, especially global superpowers or regional players know and understand well.  It is the symbiotic relationship between the military and the industrial complex that supports the military establishment both here and in our overseas deployments.
I seriously doubt that anyone can dispute that the relationship is an unhealthy one, especially when taken to an extreme, but I believe evidence of it exists if we look at the amazing amounts of wealth that our elected leaders accumulate during their time in office. In scrutinizing their riches, we can see the connection between armaments technology and development and their pocketbooks.
President Trump said just little over a week ago that U.S. troops would be leaving Syria and coming back home and then, out of nowhere, sources claim that Bashar al-Assad, strongman dictator of Syria and known killer of his own people in the fight to maintain power, used poison gas on his opponents in a suburb of Damascus.
To me, it makes no sense whatsoever, why not just wait for American ground and air forces to vacate the region and THEN gas his enemies?  If we were upset but outside the country, we would have to make the effort to return or to use long-range military force to punish him for his misdeeds, something we have been unable to prove as at the time of this writing (although Mr. Trump hit him with cruise missiles LAST year).
The ‘good old boys (and gals)’ network immediately went into action as various Republican and Democratic senators and congressional representatives demanded an ‘answer’ to the outrageous attack.  Without any shred of proof other than that they ‘knew President Assad (and possibly Vladimir Putin) were behind the unproven attack, they wanted President Trump to launch retaliatory strikes against the culprits immediately.
Did we learn nothing from the Iraq War?  I mean, even if the WMDs crossed the border from neighboring Iraq in the days leading up to the U.S. ground invasion back in 2003 and fell into the hands of Assad, are we to go to war every time some thug somewhere in the world does something awful to his own or nearby citizens in a neighboring locale?
This is a recipe for madness and I, for one, hope that President Donald J. Trump does not leap at the bait and do something that is going to put American troops back in the crosshairs of an angry foe.
We do not need to intervene in this mess, this is something the United Nations must involve itself in as this is precisely the type of situation for which, World War II war-weary governments created the international body, back in the late 1940s, to resolve.
I fear the enemies of this president, (as well as those seeking to enrich themselves in unseen ways through massive military contracts), are the driving force behind pushing the President into yet another Middle Eastern debacle.
Surely the disaster in Iraq taught us something and at one time, I believed Donald Trump had learned that lesson.  Now, he seems to be dancing to the tune of his detractors and to his military advisors such as John Bolton and Mike Pompeo.
I pray to God as a mother and grandmother that no U.S. troops go to action on the ground in Syria, enough is enough.  Iraq was a fiasco, Libya a dire mess, and now Syria?  Please, for God’s sake, can we not refrain from entering another fight when there is so much we still need to do here at home?  Please, President Trump, do not allow those who hold no good will for you to embroil you in yet another Iraq, as it is going to be your downfall.
Whew, we are off to a good start.  Friends, I will see you back here tomorrow so please, make sure you rejoin me tomorrow at 12:01 A.M. Pacific Time- be here or be nowhere.

In 1984, the Mk. II lineup of Deep Purple—the most successful—reformed and released their most successful album to date: “Perfect Strangers.”  The album featured Ian Gillian (vocals), Roger Glover (bass), Ian Paice (drums), Richie Blackmore (guitars), and Jon Lord (keyboards) and it came out on October 29, 1984.  All the members had been playing in other groups; Paice had been playing with smoking guitarist, Gary Moore; Ian Gillian from a short stint with Black Sabbath, Blackmore and Glover from Rainbow and Jon Lord from Whitesnake (with David Coverdale).  It took them nine years to bury the hatchet and get back to work and what work it was, a fantastic album although some fans panned it.  Nevertheless, we urge you to use the link here, so you can go directly to Amazon.com where you can pick it up in the format, the condition, and the price that works best for you.

FEATURED ALBUM OF THE DAY:

In 1984, the Mk. II lineup of Deep Purple—the most successful—reformed and released their most successful album to date: “Perfect Strangers.”  The album featured Ian Gillian (vocals), Roger Glover (bass), Ian Paice (drums), Richie Blackmore (guitars), and Jon Lord (keyboards) and it came out on October 29, 1984.  All the members had been playing in other groups; Paice had been playing with smoking guitarist, Gary MooreIan Gillian from a short stint with Black SabbathBlackmore and Glover from Rainbow and Jon Lord from Whitesnake (with David Coverdale).  It took them nine years to bury the hatchet and get back to work and what work it was, a fantastic album although some fans panned it.  Nevertheless, we urge you to use the link here, so you can go directly to Amazon.com where you can pick it up in the format, the condition, and the price that works best for you.

SPECIAL ALBUMS OF THE DAY:

Sunday, July 24, 2011 Blog Post:

Big Brotheand the Holding Company reunited in 1987 and began playing gigs again and found time to record this album, “Do What You Love,” an album they released in 1999.  Peter Albin (bass) joined Dave Getz (drums, piano), Sam Andrews (guitars, vocals), Tom Finch (guitars) as well as James Gurley (who performed off and on, guitars) and Lisa Battle (vocals).  The band could still smoke and on this album as well as onstage at their live gigs, they wowed fans the way they did back in the OLD days.  We urge everyone to seek this album out by going to Amazon.com via the link we provide you here; you will be glad you did.
Friday, September 20, 2013 Blog Post:

In December 1967the Lovin’ Spoonful released their next effort, “Everything Playing.”  There was a change in the lineup at this point as Zal Yanovsky left the band due to some immigration and drug problems.  The new lineup featured John Sebastian (vocals, guitars, autoharp, harmonicas, and organ), Steve Boone (bass and vocals), Joe Butler (drums, percussion, and vocals), and Jerry Yester (guitars and vocals).  Three songs are notable here: “Six O’ Clock,” “She is Still a Mystery,” and “Younger Generation,” a song that Sebastian would perform at the Woodstock Music Festival the following summer.  We urge you to take our link and go to Amazon.com where you can pick this CD up in the format, the condition, and the price that is right for you—you will be glad you did.
