WINTER SESSION 2017-18

BLOGPOST #2,685 AT THE AICP-END

TWO HUNDRED-AND-FORTY- THREE DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2018

Currently, I’m reading a superb book, “Dear Leader: The Unauthorized Autobiography of Kim Jong Il” by Michael Malice
Honolulu, HI, 03-08-2018 Thursday:  Aloha, friends, thank you for joining me again today.  I know that when we Hawaiian chefs either come to Oildale, California, or email our posts to the staff here at the AICP-END Blogs, when we discuss ‘Hawaiian politics,’ most folks do not care, they want to hear about what is ‘going on,’ on the Mainland.  I guess I do not blame them as that seems to be where everything is happening anyway, it’s not as if President Trump has come to the Islands in his official capacity; perhaps one day he will and yours truly will have an opportunity to see him.
Right now, there is talk about how Kim Jong-Un is making overtures to the United States and to neighboring countries.  Many people look at it as though it once again is the snake oil a talented salesman is peddling.  However, I do not believe it is.  I think Kim seeks to open a door and to establish a dialogue with which, he can guarantee the sanctity of his country and perhaps finally do something useful and beneficial for his people.
I am close to being finished with a book by Michael Malice, “Dear Reader: The Unauthorized Autobiography of Kim Jong Il,” the father of Kim Jong-Un.  As we should know, the book is NOT Kim’s ‘autobiography’ but one compiled by the author, Mr. Malice.
Mr. Malice used numerous history books, magazine articles, and other source material smuggled out of North Korea.  We all know that the North is a closed society and that all publications were either written by Kim’s father, General Kim Il-Sung or by Kim the Younger, himself.  I am sure there are other authors of note within the society and they are the ones who write for North Korean magazines.
In truth, what Mr. Malice has done is to compile all this source material into an entertaining and informative narrative as though it is being told by Kim Jong Il as the words are his, published here and there or taught in the NOKO schools.
Reading the tome becomes a tool of enlightenment once one gets past the first 5-10 pages and sees what in truth is taking place here and I must commend Mr. Malice for writing a very fascinating book.
The North Koreans view everything the exact opposite of what the rest of the world sees.  They see themselves as a utopian society, one in which, ALL Koreans are happy, although Kim alludes to the fact that many are not, that many suffer from whatever problems there are such as little food or from a lack of ‘enthusiastic patriotism.’
What I gather from the book is that as far as the North Koreans are concerned, they believe that the United States is their mortal enemy, an enemy dedicated to their overthrow and their destruction.  They also see the Japanese as a lifelong enemy and view the South Koreans as the lackeys of the U.S., people who would seek reunification with their northern kin were it not for the influence of the evil imperialist Yankees.
I do not believe that North Korea wants to start a war with the United States, but should one break out, they will not shy away from it, either.  They see themselves as a hedgehog, an animal so unworthy of attacking because of its imposing defenses that few other creatures initiate a dreadful mistake in doing so.
They know that weaker nations such as Iraq will suffer being invaded over the whisper of weapons of mass destruction so that in order to forestall a similar fate, it has been the lifelong goal of Kim Jong Il, aka ‘Dear Leader’ (his father was the ‘Great Leader’) to make sure that they have atomic weaponry and the missiles with which to deliver them.
Since President Trump took office, North Korea is in the news on a regular basis as it appears they have redoubled their efforts to achieve their goals.  They know that attacking them would have disastrous consequences for whomever makes the stupid mistake of doing so, which is why I hope our President can avoid committing this deplorable mistake.
We will continue the discussion tomorrow, but I would urge everyone to seek out and to buy the book by Michael Malice as it is a superb book and an ono read.  I will see you tomorrow.

FEATURED ALBUM AND BOOK OF THE DAY:

SPECIAL ALBUMS OF THE DAY:

Historical Figures and Ancient Heads” (1971)

This is the first album by the band not to feature Alan Wilson and it is interesting to note that Larry “the Mole” Taylor left the band, too.  “Historical Figures and Ancient Heads” came out on December 14, 1971 and features Joel Scott Hill (guitars) and bassist Antonio de la Barreda filling in for Taylor.  After the band recorded the album and then following the tour that came after the recording, both Hill and Barreda left the group for whatever reasons.  This is a wonderful album, one that features Little Richard on one of the tracks, “Rockin’ with the King,” a classic song if ever there was one.  All we can say is the Bob “the Bear” is in fine form and that “Long Way from L.A.” is worth the price of admission alone.  Please, use our link to go to Amazon.com where you can pick the CD up in the price, the condition, and the price that is right for you—you will love it.

We continue Round #2 of the Grateful Dead today with “Dave’s Picks Volume 3—Auditorium Theater, Chicago, IL 10-22-1971,” yet another excellent addition to this brand-new series that took over from the Road Trips’ format.  This album came out in 2012 and is yet another excellent offering so please—take the convenient link posted above, go to Amazon.com, and buy it now—you’ll be glad you did! Thank you!
