WINTER SESSION 2017-18

BLOGPOST #2,686 AT THE AICP-END

TWO HUNDRED-AND-FORTY- TWO DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2018

We conclude with Michael Malice’s book today
Honolulu, HI, 03-09-2018 Friday:  I began discussing the informative book by Michael Malice yesterday, “Dear Reader: The Unauthorized Autobiography of Kim Jong Il,” the father of Kim Jong Un.  I expressed how much the book interested me and has given me a different outlook on North Korea and why it behaves the bizarre way that it does.  Please, do not misunderstand what I am saying to you, however, I have not changed my view of North Korea to one of favorability or see them as less dangerous than they are; it’s just that there are valid reasons for them being the way they are.
I believe what they want is for the United States and to a lesser extent Japan and South Korea is for these nations to respect them, not like them, just respect them, which is why they have worked so hard and overcome so many crises and pitfalls in developing nuclear weapons and the technology with which to deliver them.
This also is the reason for the massive military they have built and continue to build.  They view themselves as a hedgehog, an animal not worth attacking because the cost would be too great and the minimal gains worthless.
Moreover, they realize that in any war with the United States, they most likely would lose yet they still claim belligerently that they will ‘wipe us from the face of the planet’ even though they understand that that outcome is not likely.
The presidency of George W. Bush was problematic for them—heck, it was problematic for many people and countries around the world—because the Bushies developed some crazy interventionist ideas following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that struck fear into us as a nation.
Yes, we went to war in Afghanistan, a place where we still fight ‘the enemy.’  However, not long after, President Bush came out and lumped North Korea, Iraq, and Iran (and to a lesser extent, Syria) into his now infamous “Axis of Evil.”
In doing so, he equated these three nations with al-Qaida and other terrorists to which, the links were somewhat vague and far-fetched, if you ask me.  Still, he went around the nation and to the United Nations begging for the support to go to war against Iraq based on the assumption that they had nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.
According to the Malice book, Kim Jong Il felt that based simply upon the assumption that one of the Axis of Evil member nations had possible WMDs but without honest evidence and rock-hard truth that would hold up in a court of law, the United States was serving notice that it could and probably would invade ANY nation it believed had these ‘weapons.’
Mr. Malice also writes that Kim was unhappy with the ongoing inspections of various parts of his country and that when the Bush administration and the UN inspectors were not satisfied with what they had seen and now wanted to visit various military bases and facilities, Kim had had enough.
Kim rationalized that NO other nation on the face of the planet would accept foreign entities investigating their military facilities, delving into the nation’s secrets so why should North Korea?  Just the mere thought that NOKO had WMDs was enough in the eyes of the Bush administration to warrant an invasion to seize them so North Korea pulled out of the international treaties on nuclear arms development.
Now, I am not siding with North Korea or with Kim Jong Un; however, what I am saying is that the book makes sense as to the reasoning and the rationalization that goes on in the mind of the leadership ruling NOKO.  They believe we are out to get them and after what happened to Iraq and to Libya, there is no way in hell they will ever surrender their weapons development programs.
I think what we should do with North Korea is to hold honest talks with them, maybe even exchange diplomats so both countries have an open door to one another instead of having to communicate through third parties.  We can also give them a little respect as like it or not, they somewhat deserve it thanks to their possessing nukes and ICBMs.
That is my opinion, folks; you do with it what you will.  You folks on the far right, hacks such as John Bolton and Dick Cheney, do not blast me, insult me, or call me dense.  It simply is a time for a brand-new approach much like moving the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Aloha, see you tomorrow.
