WINTER SESSION 2017-18

BLOGPOST #2,655 AT THE AICP-END

TWO HUNDRED-AND-SEVENTY-THREE DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2018

It was great to see New England go down to Philly this past Sunday
Valencia, CA, 02-06-2018 Tuesday:  Two days ago, we had a big Super Bowl LII celebration at our restaurant and had people up to the rafters in the bar and in the coffee shop side of the business.  We also made sure we had a television in the fine dining room, so our guests could watch the game no matter where they sat.  Even in the entry way to either side of the restaurant or to the banquet rooms, we had televisions because everyone wanted to see the game, especially those hoping for an Eagles upset over the Patriots.
Myself, I am a Rams and Raiders fan, therefore, I had no skin in the game.  I do not care for the Patriots as I see them as a team that since they are generally GREAT, the officials do their best to make sure they remain that way such as some of what would have been the winning touchdowns against them during the regular season ruled as incomplete or whatever.
Many of my friends and family as well as my employees all wanted to see the Patriots lose, enough is enough, is what many of them have said.  It is one thing to win because one is the best in the business and quite another when one is known for cutting corners and shaving edges such as Spy-Gate, Deflate-Gate, and coercing officials and league officials to side with them.
I would have thought that cheating on this scale would have cost them what it cost Sean Payton, coach of the New Orleans Saints a few years back for knowing that his defensive coordinator Gregg Williams used a ‘bounty’ scheme where if a player knocked a key opposing player out of the game, the player earned a cash ‘bounty’ payment.
As we all know, Coach Payton had to sit out an entire season (2012) for his part in the dirty dealing, but no one would EVER do something so onerous as that to Bill Belichick.
Even Tom Brady got off rather light for his part in Delate-Gate where his ball handler seemingly acted on his own authority to reduce the pressure in the footballs used in New England home games, so the balls would rest nicely in Brady’s hand.
In Sunday’s game, the Eagles received more penalties than New England, which is par for the course; however, the penalties they received were not the destructive kind that moved the football from the other side of the field to the one-yard line of the opposing team.
The Patriots had to fight for every yard and did a hell of a job of it, throwing deep and gaining touchdowns as they did against the Atlanta Falcons last year.  However, the Eagles managed to recover enough to make big plays towards the end of the game when the Patriots were going all out to tie the game and take it in overtime.
Something else of note was how the razzle-dazzle for the Patriots did not work whereas it did for the Eagles.  The Patriots attempted a sneaky play where receiver Danny Amendola threw a high pass to a running Brady who watched the ball float over his fingertips.
Meanwhile, Nick Foles became the first player in Super Bowl history to be on both sides of a touchdown pass.  Moving away from center, the Eagles did some razzle dazzle of their own and Trey Burton tossed the ball to Foles deep in the end zone for a touchdown.
What’s more, it was amazing to watch Nick Foles, the backup quarterback of the opposing team, outplay the seasoned Tom Brady to win not only the first Super Bowl victory for the Philadelphia Eagles but also the MVP for the game.
I have a prediction for next year, something I made yesterday on the blog’s Facebook and Google Plus page:  I think the San Francisco 49ers with Jimmy Garoppolo at the helm could go ALL THE WAY to Super Bowl LIII if they continue playing as they did last year.
We know—at least so far—that Brady is not retiring and that he will be back with the Patriots for the 2018-19 campaign.
I would imagine that unless a lightning bolt hits the team and they lose in the playoffs next year, they will somehow return to their ninth Super Bowl.  If they go up against the 49ers and an uninjured Garoppolo is still there, I hope the (hated) 49ers knock Tom Brady and Bill Belichick out for good.
Remember, Brady was instrumental in getting Garoppolo out of New England because he wanted to cement his death grip on the team.  With only Brian Hoyer as his backup, New England would not dare dump the ‘little prince.’
However, if Garoppolo beats his ass, though, that will be it for Brady and New England.  Then again, maybe his wife will tell him, “No, more, Tommy boy.  If you become a drooling idiot from all the hits, I will not be the one changing your diapers.”
That would be enough to make anyone reconsider their crazy ideas of continuing to play to 45 or older.
See you tomorrow.

The DVD we have for you today is the next one by Justin Hayward, “Live at the Capitol Theater,” (September 23, 2016).  This is an album by all accounts that ranks among the best modern albums by either the Moody Blues or Justin Hayward in—well—years.  One must wonder why the power of the music and the strength of Hayward’s vocals have not appeared on film when the band has sort of been drifting around musically.  This album is fine, one that we highly promote, and hope that you will check out so please--use the link we have for you here, so you can go directly to Amazon.com.  Once there, you can pick it up in the format, the condition, and the price that is right for you—you will be so glad you did.
