WINTER SESSION 2017-18

BLOGPOST #2,669 AT THE AICP-END

TWO HUNDRED-AND-FIFTY-NINE DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2018

If schools won’t spend money on upgrading defensive measures, then sue the shit out of them
Bakersfield, CA, 02-20-2018 Tuesday: I agree with Chef Z—my colleague and the gentleman who runs the blog’s Google Plus Collection online (you can find the link down the page, keep looking)—who said that he saw on the Greg Gutfeld Show this past weekend, a ‘fix’ for the vulnerability of the nation’s schools.
According to Greg’s ‘sidekick’ and weekly guest, Tyrus, former pro wrestler, actor (see “Preacher”), and bodyguard, after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the federal government acted as fast as it could in (1) establishing the Department of Homeland Security and (2) setting up the TSA to protect the nation’s airports from future assaults by terrorists.    Why then, after a mass casualty attack on a school have we not done something similar?
If you ask me, Tyrus makes a great deal of sense just as parents of shot-up schools banding together to launch class-action lawsuits against EVERY school district, every administrator, and even local government when some godawful event such as the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre in Parkland, Florida occurs.
MONEY is the ONLY thing anyone understands and until every school in the United States initiates safety measures such as hiring armed personnel, redirecting students in and out through one main gate with metal detectors, and alerting law enforcement to potentially dangerous former or present students, then when these episodes occur, hit them with massive lawsuits.
Back when we were kids in the 1950s and 1960s, NO one ever shot up a school of any kind other than the famous event that took place in Texas when a sniper atop a tower shot numerous students (we won’t mention the name or the place).  Heck we had gun clubs on campus, students learned marksmanship, learned how to handle a firearm without accident, and most importantly, how to respect a firearm.
One can only ponder what is wrong with today’s youth.  When we were kids, violence and death were seen mostly on the evening news thanks to the Vietnam War and anti-war ‘peaceful demonstrations’ on the home front.  We sure as heck did not see graphic violence in every nightly TV drama or in games as we did not have the computer games they now have.
We played board games of military campaigns, something I know the young people of today would laugh at, scoff at, but we did not revel in violence as young people seemingly do now.
Sure, we played war and we had loads of plastic guns, grenades, and all manner of other military accoutrements so we could relive the great campaigns of World War II, World War I, and the Civil War but it made us more passive rather than aggressive.
Any of the kids with whom I played war did not grow up to enlist in the service nor did we go crazy and buy arsenals of real firearms.  If anything, we shied away from violence and active military duty because of our time engaging in physical play.
Back to the school issue, I think things have become upside-down.  Physical play at recess is severely restricted as is any sort of physical contact.  Kids become increasingly withdrawn and without adequate teachers to inspire them to greater things, kids can quickly become distant to their fellows, ripe for being bullied by other kids.
How many times can we say we are not going to tolerate bullying, yet it seemingly happens more now than ever and at greater cost.  I do not know if the Nikolas Cruz kid down in Florida underwent bullying or not but if he did and no one did anything about it, then shame on them.
If the FBI also had the kid dead to rights in their sights but overlooked him or were busy doing other things deemed more important, then shame on them and Director Christopher Wray must answer some challenging questions.
We have every right to know WHO dropped the ball and WHY they dropped the ball as if they had Cruz in their sights, then why did no one investigate WHY a 19-year-old kid had the firepower that he did, who sold it to him, and why did no one visit his home to interrogate him about it?
The left is always going to blame the guns as that is what they do.  They hate the National Rifle Association and they hate guns.  The NRA should be in schools giving seminars and trainings on gun safety, how to survive a mass shooting, and how to defend oneself if he or she finds his-or-herself in a terrible situation.
If that fails to happen, then parents will have to do the next best thing and that is sue the school district into oblivion so that upgrading security, both physical and virtual, will cost far less than the cost of doing nothing but giving lip service to the left.
See you tomorrow.
