BLOGPOST #2,606 AT THE AICP-END

THREE HUNDRED-AND-TWENTY DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAYS 2018

We continue handicapping Democrat Senate seats today
Arvin, CA, 12-20-2017 Wednesday:  Yesterday, I began going over our chances in next year’s senatorial elections because the Senate is where victory or defeat is going to occur, not the House.  As I said, we can increase our numbers in the House to no avail but if we lose additional seats in the U.S. Senate, we will never impeach Donald Trump and remove him from office, plain and simple.
Yesterday, we got through my predictions for Missouri and New Jersey before signing off for the day.  We will pick up with New Mexico now.  Many believe that Martin Heinrich is safe, but I do not concur.  I suspect the GOP is going to make a BIG PUSH to capture this seat and make the state theirs.
In New York, Kirsten Gillibrand will be up for reelection and even though the Empire State is akin to California in that it is extremely difficult for the GOP to compete, when taxes and fees go too high, even the strongest Democrat voter is going to revolt.
You see, it is fine to raise taxes to a reasonable degree to fight Climate Change and to protect the rights of immigrants and LGBT folks, it is quite another to tax people to death.  Wake up and watch out, New York.
In North Dakota, Heidi Heitkamp has drawn extremely close to President Trump and like many Democrats inclined to ‘work’ with the President because her chances of winning reelection are slim to none, she presently sits on the fence awaiting whatever might happen to President Trump over the allegations of sexual misconduct made against him by numerous women.
Unfortunately, we cannot place bets on something that might never occur and while I know this might infuriate some of my fellow Democrats, we cannot count on something happening that WE want to happen as it will lead us down the same frigging path we lead ourselves down in the 2016 Election- people are still trying to get over that stinging defeat.
In Ohio, Sherrod Brown faces a similar debacle in that GOP numbers continue increasing and he faces stiff competition in winning another term.  I would say ‘goodbye’ to the Buckeye State as I would to Bob Casey in Pennsylvania unless we derail Donald Trump.
Sheldon Whitehouse is extremely safe in Rhode Island as are Bernie Sanders in Vermont and Tim Kaine in Virginia.  Maria Cantwell is safe in Washington State as is Joe Manchin in West Virginia as he remains—at least in my eyes—a Blue Dog Democrat, one who is independent-minded and might do business with Donald Trump.
In Wisconsin, Tammy Baldwin should be in a good spot as that state is usually fairly strong when it comes to Democrat politics; however recent polls show that it might be even-steven there right now, which does not bode well for the Party.
We also must consider Independent Angus King in Maine as he may as well be a Democrat in that he votes with us on a consistent basis.  He should win that seat because Maine truly is a liberal place now, but one never knows.  It depends upon his opponent and how much money he has in his war chest.
Here is the deal: we have slightly less than a year to go before election day, 2018.  Add to that the fact that the race for the White House will commence sometime around the summer or fall as politicians begin announcing their intentions.  Who knows?  President Trump could face a challenge from within his party but again, we cannot bet on longshots as they seldom bear fruit.
We will continue with our assessment tomorrow as we will the Republicans who are up for reelection and what their chances might be.

The next album by a former member of the Moody Blues to come out was by the band’s keyboardist, Mike Pinder.  The album, entitled, “Among the Stars,” came out on October 05, 1995 and after repeated listening, one finds him-or-herself falling in love with this amazing effort.  It is a somewhat sad fact for many fans that Pinder was an integral part in the band in which, he came from because the mellotron is an instrument that might as well as been HIS creation.  We hope you will use the link, which will redirect you to Amazon.com and once there, you can pick it up in the format, the condition, and the price that works best for you—you can thank us later.
