FALL SESSION 2017

BLOGPOST #2,591 AT THE AICP-END

THREE HUNDRED-AND-THIRTY-FIVE DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAYS 2018

Black Lives Matter and disrespect for the nation have caused the NFL to implode—good riddance
Century City, CA, 12-05-2017 Tuesday: I am one of those fellows who has allegiance to sports teams in a variety of cities as I have lived in quite a few and have worked in several states.  I love the Raiders and the New York Giants and this year, both franchises suck big time.  I fear some of the upheaval within each team emanates from the friction between black and white players and their views on whether it is appropriate to protest the flag and the anthem or not.  I think we can understand WHY the Raiders and Giants are in such a state of flux and that is the divisions between players has them at the throats of one another.
Last year, the Raiders were set to go DEEP into the playoffs, that is until quarterback Derek Carr suffered a broken leg.  That inopportune break caused them to suffer a knockout in Round 1, something that upset numerous fans of the team like me because it had been quite a while since we had seen the Raiders in the playoffs.
Years of mismanagement by the Davis Family and a declining revenue base in Oakland caused the team once again to seek greener pastures elsewhere and so, they decided that moving to Las Vegas was the way to go.
For fans such as me, that is both good and bad.  “Rocky” (my wife, Rochelle) and I love going to Vegas whenever time and cash permits but the mystique of the team now living in the middle of the desert instead of in the East Bay has little to no allure for us.
It is true Raiders fans are everywhere, the team has had a long association with NFL fans who follow them wherever they go.  However, pulling up stakes in Oakland and moving to Sin City has left many fans on the outside looking in.  We could handle the team moving to Los Angeles from Oakland as it made going to games easy for my family and me.
Something about Vegas strips the mystique from the team in much the same way that when the Rams moved to Las Angeles the first time, they had issues with living among the glitz and glam of the city, going ‘Hollywood,’ if you will and seldom if ever beating longtime enemy the San Francisco 49ers.
I think the Raiders are going to rue the day they take up residence in Vegas as many fans of the team whom I know have lost the love for the team they once held, a love that gave them an identity and tribal feeling that united fans across the Raiders universe.
Moreover, if one looks at the New York Giants, one sees disaster befalling a team that does not deserve it.  Benching Eli Manning in favor of the backup quarterback can have no good consequences as why would Eli play well if the coach decides to throw him back into a game?
Manning has not missed a start in 13 seasons and now this putz of a coach, Ben McAdoo, decided that pulling Eli out of the starting position and giving it to a relative nobody in Gino Smith, a man fighting for his own position seems to want to make some sort of example of out Eli.  Makes no sense and I hope by the time of this writing, the coach is in the unemployment line.
I have a feeling that we will once again see the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl as the only team seemingly able to knock them off—the Pittsburgh Steelers—most likely will fail in this task as they almost always do.
On the NFC side of the equation, many people think that the Philadelphia Eagles were a lock to make it to the Super Bowl, which after the Seattle Seahawks put an ass-whooping on them on Sunday night, makes them appear the hollow team they are.
Let’s face it, they have beaten nothing but nobodies, the Redskins, the Cowboys, the Giants, the Bears, and the 49ers but when they meet a real team such as the Seahawks, watch out baby—they are going to lose and lose worse than any team that Donovan McNabb ever lead.
We will also discuss Roger Goodell, the worst commissioner in the history of the sport but will do that tomorrow.
See you at 12:01 A.M.

This is a photo of me at an ACF Convention back in the early 1960's when I was a representative from our California chapter.  Anyhow, I am a great deal older than this picture now but that's what we're doing, sharing OLD pictures of all of us.  I am still a handsome man, however!
