THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CULINARY POLITICS-ELEMENTAL NEWS OF THE DAY COMMENTARY-OPINION-SPORTS-FOOD SERVICE FOR SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 03, 2017 BY CHEF CHERYL LA TIGRE

SUMMER SESSION 2017

BLOGPOST #2,498 AT THE AICP-END

TWO HUNDRED-AND-NINETY-NINE DAYS AFTER ELECTION DAY

Mexico wants to pass a bill banning President Trump from coming to their country…can we ban Mexicans from coming here?
Honolulu, HI, 09-03-2017 Sunday: I should laugh, I saw an article on Think Progress—the BIG LEFTWING SITE that says some of the craziest stuff, that the people of Mexico seek to pass a bill banning President Donald J. Trump from visiting THEIR corrupt, decadent, and violence-ridden country.  Hmmm, I wonder if we can pass a bill in the USA that bans ALL Mexicans from crossing the borders into OUR country?
Now I know people will think I am a racist and bigot as those seem to be among the top 10 slanderous slurs the liberal left can hurl at a God-fearing, law-abiding American citizen.  Heck, they might also claim I am ‘someone else’ because how can someone who claims to be a lifelong Democrat and a liberal (although my liberalism has begun to dilute), say hateful things about illegal aliens or ‘like’ President Donald Trump?
I have spoken on the topic of crime before, here in the islands, and I must say that we share similarity to every other liberal region of the country in that our elected leaders seem to want to place noncitizens above U.S. citizens for a variety of reasons.
My view is this- if we need outside labor because we do not have enough citizens to fill the jobs and positions that Hawaii has open, then we can recruit from the mainland as well as from abroad.
However, if we can find workers here at home—especially if the Republicans help President Trump pass his tax reform plan—we can become a powerhouse once more, build new resorts and hotels, employ our fellow citizens, and reduce the level of crime caused by noncitizens and illegal aliens.
Look, I feel that people have a right to live their lives in the way they see fit just so long as their lifestyle does not cause me or my family problems or infringe upon our rights.
Conversely, we as citizens of the best state in the country should not have to tolerate ‘imported criminals’ because our state government has gone off the deep end and into the liberal mire in that it feels we must keep the welcome mat on 24/7/365 for all who seek to come here.
Whether our state government understands this, we of all the states in the Union have finite resources, we have only so much to go around and just so much to leave for our kids and their kids.
Why then should we allow a constant influx of people from God knows where to continue draining our resources and causing crime that heretofore we did not have to endure?
The sad thing is this- if we do get our government under control and do it soon, by the time we reach critical mass, it will be too late to begin doing the things we need to do with which to retain our unique culture, provide futures for our kids and their kids, keep crime to a minimum, and to prevent the influx of potential Middle Eastern terrorists.
Call me a bigot or whatever you like; I consider myself a liberal with a conscience and one who has high hopes for her family’s welfare.
Thanks for joining me this week, I had a lovely time ‘talking story’ with you all as well as had a lovely time going to the various local casinos.  We will be leaving for Yosemite tonight and will spend at least a week up there as well as try to find time to hit Reno—NOT Vegas—before we return home.
Those poor folks at Tastries Bakery seem to be persevering and that is good, no one should lose his or her business because they take a moral stand on a questionable topic.  Again, folks will badmouth me but that is how it is in our oppressive society, one that must get better at some point lest we see the end of our beautiful country.
Aloha!  A hui hou kakou!

This is a photo of me back in the 1980’s when I was working at a hotel in Honolulu, HI, on Waikiki Beach.  I began my career in the early 1970’s when I apprenticed to cook under one of the masters on the Big Island where I was born.  I moved to Oahu in the early 1980’s after having worked in both Kona and Hilo, HI, and have been there for most of my professional career.  I have also worked on Maui for a few years (1995-1998) and have been on Kauai (2001-2003) before returning to Honolulu.  My goal is to prepare the next generation of chefs for the future and to help the underprivileged in their struggle to attain careers in the foodservice industry.
