SUMMER SESSION 2017

BLOGPOST #2,507 AT THE AICP-END

THREE HUNDRED-AND-EIGHT DAYS AFTER ELECTION DAY

It was a decent opening week for the NFL’s 2017-18 Season
Los Angeles, CA, 09-12-2017 Tuesday: I am compelled to say that it is good to have the NFL in Los Angeles, California, once again.  I could care less about the Chargers moving north from San Diego but to have the Rams back at the Coliseum once more while construction proceeds on their new complex is absolutely wonderful and boy what an opening game!
The Rams beat the snot out of the Indianapolis Colts, 46-9, man what a whopping the Colts took.  I think we are on the cusp of seeing a vastly improved Rams team on the march and who knows?  Maybe we can go deep in the playoffs just as I hope my Oakland, well, Las Vegas, Raiders can.
I know many people are displeased that the Raiders are moving to Las Vegas but friends, it is what it is, it will be much easier for my family and me to hop into the SUV and go to Lost Wages than it is to drive up north and then do our best to avoid being murdered in the city across the Bay.
Besides, we love gambling as does everyone else so going to Vegas will be like taking mini vacations especially since we will have season tickets by the time the team arrives in the middle of the Nevada desert.  It is going to be so much fun, we can hardly wait.
Other games of note this past week was the outstanding ass-whooping the Kansas City Chiefs dished out to an over-confident but lackluster New England Patriots team.  Who would ever have thought that Alex Smith—a competent quarterback but a journeyman player—would be able to outplay the 40-year-old Tom Brady.  Well he did and the Chiefs won 42-27.
I know some will claim that bashing the Patriots is sour grapes but folks, I think most Americans believe that the Patriots are not going to see another Super Bowl with Brady under center.  His age is evident and instead of going out a winner after winning last year’s championship would be better than having to leave as a worn-out loser.
Such is overconfidence—Brady is going to pay the price this season as every team—no matter how lowly—is going to seek to get a piece of him and his braggadocios teammates.  It will be interesting to see what happens when New England goes to New Orleans next week.
Carrying on, the Buffalo Bills clobbered the New York Jets, which leaves the Bills at the top of the division and the Patriots beneath them—who would ever have thought that possible?
The Chicago Bears went down in flames, losing to the Atlanta Falcons by a final score of 23-17.  Can the Falcons make it back to the Super Bowl?  One can only hope, that is, unless the Rams beat them to it.
The Baltimore Ravens pounded the Cincinnati Bengals by a final score of 20-0, not looking very good for the Bengals, to say the least.  Conversely, the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cleveland Browns albeit not in a resounding victory over a crappy team but by 21-18.  What a game!  The Browns are a team to watch.
The Oakland Raiders beat the Tennessee Titans by 10 points, winning by a final score of 26-16.  Once again, Derek Carr appears unbeatable so we can only wish good things ahead for him and the team.
The Jacksonville Jaguars pounded the poor Houston Texans by a final score of 29-7.  We will have to see if it was a blip for the Houston team because of Hurricane Harvey or because they lack the power to return to the division title and the playoffs as they did last season.
The Philadelphia Eagles blasted the Washington Redskins 30-17, a great game to be sure, thanks to the wonders of Direct TV’s NFL Ticket, we get to watch all the games on TV.  It really brings in the bar traffic on Sundays, so we will continue promoting Direct TV to the best of our ability.
The Detroit Lions pounded the hapless Arizona Cardinals by a final score of 35-23 demonstrating that the Lions have sufficient determination to make it back to the playoffs so long as they remain healthy, which is a grand thing as who cannot but help but root for the Lions, typically the doormat of the league?  I know I sure do!
The Carolina Panthers just about raped the San Francisco 49ers turning that punk team into even bigger punks by a final score of 23-3.
I see nothing but tragedy happening for the team representing the Gay Capital of the world, which is good, they should be at the bottom of the heap with the Rams dominating them like the sniveling bitches they are.
The Green Bay Packers walloped the Seattle Seahawks demonstrating that Aaron Rodgers is raring to go while Seattle might as well consign itself to the bottom of the pack along with the scurrilous 49ers.
The Dallas Cowboys appear to be back on track and it will be exciting to see how far they go just as it is to see Eli Manning and the crumbling New York Giants continue being the East Coast doormat they are.

On the Monday night games, we saw Minnesota put a whooping on New Orleans, beating them by a final score of 29-19.  Meanwhile, on the late Monday night contest, Denver barely survived a comeback by the Los Angeles Chargers by a final score of 24-21.
This is going to do it for NFL talk this week and Elvin will continue it next week when he comes into relieve me.  I think we have an exciting season on hand if the players can keep the political protests to a minimum.
Otherwise, if the players continue pulling “Kaepernicks” and taking knees, I have no problem not watching the games nor supporting the advertisers.  We must find a way to stop this stupidity and abandoning overly-politicized teams is the way in which to do it.
Thanks for joining me today, we will continue tomorrow.  God bless you all and God bless our country.  Thanks again.
