SUMMER SESSION 2017

BLOGPOST #2,492 AT THE AICP-END

TWO HUNDRED-AND-NINETY-THREE DAYS AFTER ELECTION DAY

We take a day off from politics today
Honolulu, HI, 08-28-2017 Monday: Aloha, welcome to my second stint of the year, something for which, Lalo and I are so happy about as it allows us to fly into LAX, rent a big, comfortable car, head north over some of the ugliest mountains we have ever seen and into Bakersfield.  Once there, we stop by our hotel off Rosedale Highway, get something to eat at the Hungry Hunter, then head north of the river—first time either of us have seen water flowing through it—and into Oildale, California.
This is where our blog is located, off Robert’s Lane and in some old but refurbished chicken sheds where I am to do my week while Lalo checks out the sights.  Man, that boy loves visiting Pioneer Village, because my hubby is the youngest ‘old man’ I know—God, I love that guy!
We love coming to Bakersfield because we can do two things in our spare time, unless some big concert is occurring for which, we would buy our tickets ahead of time, but sadly no.  No concerts in the flaming cauldron of Kern County this time of year.
We love visiting the local casinos, however, something many of us living in Hawaii hope we will see sometime soon
What I mean, it is fun to go aboard the two cruise lines that have onboard casinos but here in the islands, our government seems to think we are little more than lolos who will blow the hard-earned money and depend on the government for sustenance.
Here in California, however, the Native Americans have two very fine casinos nearby plus the card house down on Union Avenue, the Golden West Casino.
Lalo loves playing cards and will sit at the poker tables around the clock if I do not pull him away and make him come back to the hotel room but he is the most skillful player that anyone or I know.
What’s more, we will take a day to drive up to the lovely Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino so we can take a shot at winning a million bucks on their ‘Wheel of Winnings.’ Always fun to take a chance to see if we can pocket the big prize because back home, we have the lottery but not as big prizes as on the mainland, so sad for us.
We can buy Power Ball tickets but the state hammers us with taxes should anyone ever win, which in my memory is something that has never happened but who knows, it could.
We also plan on seeing the Invicta FC 25 bout on August 31 at the Tachi Casino because nothing is more enjoyable than watching women go at one another in bouts that get one on the edge of their seats.
The important thing about going to the big fight on the last day of the month is that local girl—you know, a girl from the beautiful state of Hawaii—Raquel Pa’aluhi is fighting Yana Kunitskaya in the title bout.  We will be sitting close to ringside to urge our girl on to victory.
To get to that fight, we will watch the exciting undercard, which is always fun, because watching champions and possible champions do battle with one another is always exhilarating.  I mean, Lalo and I wish we could be sitting ringside to watch Floyd Mayweather vs. Connor McGregor but lack the necessary money with which to do it.
After I finish my stint here in Oildale, Lalo and I then plan on driving up to another local casino, the gorgeous Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino where we will stay and play for a couple of days before heading up to Yosemite.
On September 02, we will see KC and the Sunshine Band live on stage in their fabulous facility.  Sure, Lalo and I realize that KC is a bit old and that the band may not have as much sunshine as it did back in the 1970s but what the heck—this is the reason WHY we come to California!
We both hope we are going to strike it rich at both casinos plus the fact that we will also drop some bucks on lottery tickets before heading home.  Who knows?  We could win a Mega-Millions or a Super Lotto jackpot, either of which, would be life-changing and wonderful.
Add to that the fact that my hubby will also bet big on McGregor to knock out Mayweather, which if he wins, will help us immensely spend loads of cash at the two casinos.  I guess we will have to wait and see.
Anyhow, my friends, please root for Pa’aluhi because it would be great to see one of our homegrown girls clobber the Russian or Ukrainian chick (or whatever she is) live and in the house.
We also hope we have luck doing our best to beat the casinos.  I love playing the slots whereas Lalo loves those cards.  Between the two of us, someone must win.
We will talk politics tomorrow but for now, we had a day of fun because if we take everything seriously as seemingly many people do, we will die early without having had the countless moments that make it worthwhile to live.  At least, in Hawaii, we have ‘island time’ whereas here in California, everything zips along at the speed of light.
Aloha, we will meet again tomorrow.  See you then!
