SUMMER SESSION 2017

BLOGPOST #2,493 AT THE AICP-END

TWO HUNDRED-AND-NINETY-FOUR DAYS AFTER ELECTION DAY

Back in March, I listed five things we as Democrats needed to do if we were to remain a viable national political party—have we done any of them?
Honolulu, HI, 08-29-2017 Tuesday:  Many people I know believed that the hullabaloo surrounding the election of 2016 would be on the wane by now, not gathering steam as the Democrats continue seeking ways to drag President Trump out of office.  You all know that I am a lifelong Democrat and a member who committed the ultimate sin for many among my party in that I voted for Donald J. Trump.
I voted for Donald Trump because first and foremost, the man is a Democrat.  Yes, he ran as a Republican because he knew that Hillary Clinton—no matter how many people despise her and no matter how popular Bernie Sanders is—was going to win the nomination of the Democrat Party.
On Monday, March 06, 2017, the first day of my first go-round for the year here at the blog, I authored a post in which, I shared FIVE things the Democrat Party needed to do if it was going to remain a viable national party.  Let us see if we Democrats have done it.
First, I said we as a party need to stop with all the demands for this member and that member of the Trump administration and cabinet to step down because they are ‘racists, bigots, homophobes, Islamophobes,’ you name it, they are it and need to step down.
Heck, President Trump has already let numerous people go but our party demanding it around the clock makes no sense because the GOP can easily do it to us one day when we are back in power.
The next thing I said we needed to do was to stop with the blaming of OUR loss at the ballot box on Vladimir Putin and the Russians.  We said it to the point that most Americans—excepting our crazy base—have grown bored with it, yawn, and dismiss it.
Just as the boy who cried ‘wolf’ once too often brought death upon himself, so will we as a party if we do not move on from this, which, thanks to Hurricane Harvey, has relegated it to a back burner but I suspect that once the storm that hit Texas becomes old hat, media on our side will fire it up once again.
The next thing I said we as a party needed to do was to give the President his cabinet, which I believe he still lacks a full complement of qualified personnel.  We need our government to function and whether we like his picks or we do not, if the Democrats ever regain power and the GOP unites against our president, they will do the same to us.
After that, I said that we must stop with the claims that Hillary won the ‘popular vote’ because everyone with half a brain knows that she won the undocumented alien vote, not the popular vote.
If the Trump administration investigation into the results of the previous election continues to gather steam, we will be the ones with egg on our faces and I seriously doubt that anyone wants that to be the case.  Therefore, we need to stop with the whining that we ‘won the popular vote’ because everyone knows we did NOT.
The final thing I said we as a party needed to do if we were to remain a viable national party is that we needed to begin weeding out the older members among the leadership such as Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and numerous others.
We must do this because the old leadership think like dinosaurs and not as intelligent, youthful politicians with numerous ideas and desires to work with the other side.  It does us not good if we do nothing but resist-resist-resist!
That will do it for today, my friends, we will pick up tomorrow where we left off today so I expect everyone to meet me back here at one-minute past midnight as well as at the secondary blog where we will have more Beverly Carrick original artworks to enjoy.
Aloha!
