SUMMER SESSION 2017

BLOGPOST #2,463 AT THE AICP-END

TWO HUNDRED-AND-SIXTY-FOUR DAYS AFTER ELECTION DAY

I may have to run for the Assembly one day as it is clear the Democrats in Sacramento have NO clue as to how bad people are going to hurt with additional gas taxes placed on our automobile fuel
Arvin, CA, 07-30-2017 Sunday: Gee whiz, almost the end of the month and that is good as it means we only have another two months or so to swelter.  I am not big on climate change but I realize there are many people out there who believe it lock, stock, and barrel, which is fine.  However, I do not believe it is in our best interests to indoctrinate the young into believing that in 40-50 years, our planet may no longer exist—as we know it—and their futures will disappear into the ether of history.
Another factor that troubles me about the whole ‘global warming-climate change’ thing is that all sorts of folks have grown extremely wealthy from being Chicken Little, screaming about how ‘the end is coming, the end is coming,’ but who do little more than rake in pots full of cash while the continuous rules and regulations bankrupt the ‘little guy.’
For instance, look at California, Sacramento slapped yet another gas tax on our automobile fuels, which will not cripple those with money but will further increase the hardships the middle class and the poor struggle beneath.  This is not right nor should it be something that a sane political party should ever push yet here in California, our politicians want to make ‘political statements’ opposed to doing the ‘right thing’ for everyone.
I think we need new blood in Sacramento—not the Republicans for God’s sake—but Democrats who are in touch with the people instead of being part of the ‘member’s only club’ that seems to be the only game in the state’s capital.
Let us imagine the imposition of an additional $0.90 cents per gallon on auto fuels, ostensibly to fund road repairs and improvements, things each successive state assembly has promised they were going to do with the last bunch of monies collected through similar tax increases.
Our roads remain as crappy as ever—especially the east-west routes that always seem to be at the back of the road improvement/repair list—and the millions of dollars the state collects go into other things such as funding Governor Jerry Brown’s high-speed rail mess.
The increase of almost one dollar per gallon of gas is going to cripple what industries remain in the state, businesses such as agriculture and oil, will suffer immensely just as will deliveries of all goods, services, and food shipped around the state.
The cost of food for the average consumer is going to skyrocket due to the added fuel costs, which the food companies will pass onto the buyers to keep their heads above the rising water.
Those of us who can afford the increases on all goods and foods will bitch and moan about the additional money the state rips out of our pockets but the poor, they will continue to suffer more than ever.
In answer to them, the conscientious politicians will feel obligated to divert still more money into public assistance, Section 8 housing, Medi-Cal, WIC, and all other programs designed to alleviate the harm the economy places upon the destitute, the unfortunate, and the unlucky.
This will mean that government will once again have to raise taxes on all citizens above the level of poverty so we can continue maintaining the crumbling standard of living for the poorest among us.
In doing this, the middle class is going to continue to diminish, which will inevitably force us into a lower income bracket, meaning at some point, we will require the intercession of government on our very own behalf.  This is not how things should be nor how Democrats should rule our state—not unless, they seek to put us in arrears.
Some brave Democrats such as Rudy Salas stood against the gasoline tax but not enough of his ilk stood up and said, “NO, NO on additional gas taxes.”  They just went along with the increase and in the governor’s words said to us ‘that we don’t pay our fair share of the costs of running our state.’
At some point, the Republicans are going to have to awaken to the fact that many people—on both sides of the political divide—despise the people now running our state and want to see fresh blood at the helm.  When they do, they might flip our state from BLUE to RED, which would not be good for the future of Democrat politics in this country.
My hope is the Sacramento cabal ruling the state will see that raising gas taxes hurts those whom they claim to want to help just as pushing all sorts of climate change/global warming policies is going to hurt further the people depending upon them to help keep them from the poor house.
Out here in Arvin and up on the mountain in Tehachapi, businesses struggle to remain viable and to keep their doors open but with all the heretofore mentioned costs hammering us—not to mention the rising minimum wage for many who deserve NOT half of that—it is a wonder that our state still is a ‘paradise.’
I may have to throw my hat into the ring and run for the Assembly or the state Senate one day as Sacramento truly needs politicians who are cognizant of the suffering of many people who live in the ‘Golden State’ and who will work on their behalf.
Those of you who know me, please, let me know what you think and who knows—I might be able to launch a run in 2018 and do something for my state since my state seems intent on destroying me and others like me.
Tomorrow, Chef Robert Howard will be here, you know him as Chef B.H. Cznystekinki, and you will get the ‘other side of the story’ from him as he is a hardcore conservative who disagrees with me on practically everything.
Thanks for being with me this week, I am leaving on vacation tomorrow, bound for the Caribbean!  My family and I are going to eat some jerk chicken and pork, drink some umbrella cocktails, and lounge about in the beautiful sands of fabulous beaches—don’t tell the California Franchise Tax Board!
See you next time.
