THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CULINARY POLITICS-ELEMENTAL NEWS OF THE DAY COMMENTARY-OPINION-SPORTS-FOOD SERVICE FOR THURSDAY, JUNE 08, 2017 BY CHEF MURPH MACDOUGAL

SPRING SESSION 2017

BLOGPOST #2,411 AT THE AICP-END

TWO HUNDRED-AND-TWELVE DAYS AFTER ELECTION DAY

Were it not for our Pops, my sister and I—as well as our families—would not be who or what we are
San Luis Obispo, CA, 06-08-2017 Thursday: My Pop, God watch over him, is 94-years-old, he served in the American Occupation Army in Germany from 1945 until the Army sent him to Japan in late 1949.  Eventually, he found himself in the middle of Korea fighting for his life against the Chinese and North Korean communists.
There, he suffered visible wounds, lost an eye and part of a hand as well as has back issues from one of his buddies stepping on a landmine and having white hot shrapnel fragments hit him along with some of his other comrades.  Still, he managed to fight against the combined communist forces until his commanding officer finally allowed him to return to the rear a day or two later after they had won the battle.
Pops sits around drinking coffee and reading military books, there is not a book or a movie or documentary he has not seen multiple times having to do with the wars of the past century.
God bless my old daddy, he is as sharp today as he was back then and still has his magnificent good looks, nearly a full head of snow-white hair, and swears as good as he did when he was a staff sergeant watching after the lives of his enlisted men.
Terrorism is something that keeps him alert all the time as he feels that the more the Islamists rear their heads and we as a civilization continue to do little to nothing in response will be the thing that will allow the enemy to overrun us at some point.
Many times, he says, “I wish we were still fighting the flipping (he does not use that word) Nazis, Fascists, and the Japanese (although he still favors the derogatory slang for the latter—I guess some things one does not forget especially when siblings died fighting in the Pacific Theater) because at least we knew who our damned enemies were.”
I understand where Pops is coming from because even though he acknowledges that our World War II enemies, as well as the ones he faced on the field of combat in Korea, were horrible foes as the North Koreans still are, he says, “At least we knew who were we fighting.  Now, we have no flipping clue because they lurk among us as though we are a flock of chickens and they the foxes awaiting to eat us.”
Anyhow, the battle of Raqqa, Syria—the de facto capital of the ISIS scum who captured it in 2014—commenced supposedly on Tuesday.  Pops watches this stuff with interest and says that ‘Raqqa should have been off the map already by now, that B-52 strikes should have pummeled it into the ground followed by some neutron bombs to make it a temporary radioactive wasteland for a month or two.’
Now, some young folks whenever they hear my Pops talking about fighting wars in the same manner we used to fight them express shock and outrage at his ‘violent’ words.
Heck, some of the extended family members feel like Pops is a warmonger, that he would send young people off to fight for a flag that stands for all sorts of negativity, ranging from slavery to racism to sexism, homophobia, and anti-Muslim feelings.
Whenever I hear people criticize my Pops, a man, who at his age is still active in the community and in veteran groups, I become angrier than a nest full of oversized hornets.
At least my Daddy answered the call and went to serve his country, although at first it was in the aftermath of the concluded war in Europe but then to Japan.  There, on garrison duty, he found himself rushed across the sea to Korea to save that country from the communist invasion.
Pops is the man who has given me most of my world views and why I think we must find a way to take the fight to the Islamic radicals in whatever form it requires of us to do or to use.  He is the one who has said to me, “Why in God’s Holy Name are we bringing in Muslims—whether refugees or students or just plain old immigrants when we are fighting their fellows now?”
He has a point because during World War II, I cannot envision our country giving sanctuary to German, Italian, or Japanese ‘immigrants’ because President Franklin Delano Roosevelt would have known that a good percentage of them would be aligned with the Axis.  Therefore, NO immigrants until the Allies had decided the frigging war.
Yes, poor Pops, I have no clue how long I will continue having him or Mom in my life, I can only hope it will be for a few years more.  However, I understand how they feel regarding the apathy and the anger displayed against President Trump not only from the left but also from the Republicans who seek to prevent him from keeping Muslims out to building the wall on the southern border.
Pops believes that we are indeed in the middle of a coup launched by the Deep State to neuter President Trump through hammering him from all sides to encouraging a violent action that will remove him from office even if that means more conservative Vice President Michael Pence becomes commander-in-chief.
I will admit that I feel exactly what he feels and I am afraid for the future of the country, for my grandkids who are all very young and have their own lives to live.  How can they come of age and attain the American dream when so many Americans despise this nation, disparage it, and do everything they can to negate the actions of a president for whom we voted?
I hope that the Republicans wake up, shake off this ‘wait and see’ attitude to see what will happen to President Trump before they finally decide to s**t or get off the pot and begin supporting the man.
Our nation has become factionalized, one that has splintered into more leftist groups than we have ever seen before in the history of our country.
Whether we believe that Russia actually interfered in our election or it did not, I suspect just as my father does that Russia will celebrate if we suffer a collapse like what befell the Soviet Union in the early 1990s.  I mean, why would they not—we are their greatest adversary and they are not the only ones who despise us.
Thanks for letting me share some family discussion here today, I value my Mom and Dad as without them, my sister and I would not be the people we are nor would my husband and our two sons be the people they are.  Pops has had a huge influence upon all of us just as has my Mom because they grew up in a time when everyone pitched in to save the nation whereas now, too many want to bury it.
God help us.  Thanks for joining me here today, I appreciate your readership and hope that you will continue joining me throughout the rest of the week.  God bless you all and let us take it upon ourselves to school the uneducated, the young, the dumb, and the leftist morons.  It is our sacred duty and it is up to us to do it as NO one else will.
See you tomorrow.
