SPRING SESSION 2017

BLOGPOST #2,344 AT THE AICP-END
ONE HUNDRED-AND-FORTY-FIVE DAYS AFTER ELECTION DAY

We jump all over the place today but what the hell—it is Sunday and I am tired!
Ventura, CA, 04-02-2017 Sunday:  I want to wish my friend and colleague, Chef Lilah, a very happy birthday today and although we have no control over the weight of the years, she still looks as hot as she did when I first met her.
We also must note that “Rumours” by Fleetwood Mac went #1 on this date and remained there for about three-fourths of a year.  I am sure anyone who was alive back in the day can remember when that album hit the shelves of record stores, it had so many hits that like the first album by the Doors, and it remained on the radio for months and months.
Even more amazing is that it was forty years ago—four flipping decades, folks—when that album entered the charts and blew everyone else out of the water.  The lineup of John and Christine McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, and Lindsay Buckingham became the ONLY lineup that most people ever know and remain the most cherished one ever.
About two years ago, I came east to Bakersfield from the coast to see them perform at the Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, California, and I must say, the show was great and the five members were there along with a supporting musician or two.  They put on a show that my wife and I will never forget and I am so glad that they still had the energy to deliver about 2.5-2.75 hours of top-quality music.
Mick Fleetwood did one hell of a drum solo as he carried us on a 10-15 minute percussive journey and as always, he was a consummate showman and an entertaining personality.  At the end of the show, he appeared with his two young daughters and wished everyone well and a safe journey home.  God bless him, his family, and his bandmates.
Something else interesting of note that few millennial generation folks know or will ever know is that the Falklands War broke out on this date when Argentinian troops began landing in the Falklands—what they call Las Malvinas—in an attempt to wrest them from Great Britain.
At the time, we were still involved in the Cold War in which, Western nations and their allies around the world faced off against the Soviet Union and their proxies seeking to spread communism across the globe.
It was a time in which, everyone lived beneath the threat of nuclear annihilation and the conflict in the south Atlantic seemed as much a potential fuse as the ongoing war between the Soviets and the jihadists in Afghanistan.  For the Russians, the Afghan war was ‘their Vietnam,’ a place that became a meat grinder for them as much as Vietnam was for us.
When war erupted between a Britain in decline and the military junta ruling Argentina on this day in 1982, the mess had the potential to pull the United States onto one side or the other.
President Ronald Reagan never flagged on his alliance with Margaret Thatcher—then the prime minister of the United Kingdom—but also had been working hard at improving relations with Latin America, Argentina in particular.
The military junta hoped we would side with them as they had long-claimed the Falklands as their own and sought to reclaim it from the Brits.  However, that was not to be as Reagan sided unwaveringly with Thatcher and did his best to support her under the table but the world knew whom he supported.
Many people have said it was the last gasp of a struggling empire and an upstart Latin American growing power.  The war lasted for 10 weeks and despite what people say, the war was a bitter one in which, a fair amount of deaths occurred such as the sinking of the Argentine warship, the ARA General Belgrano from a UK submarine strike and then the Argentine navy hitting the HMS Sheffield and doing it major damage.
The air war between the two nations was fierce and not without loss of life while on the ground, the British fought with mostly superb Argentine military formations, some of which, we were conscripts but many being the equivalent of their foes.  Although the Argentines lost more soldiers, sailors, and aircrews than the Brits, for 74 days of war, 907 total men and women died during the 74 days of war.
The young people of today have little to no knowledge of any of the events of the past century unless they watch a show such as “The Americans” on FX, which portrays embedded Soviet agents posing as a nuclear family living in Virginia or make an effort to read books.
The show is in my opinion extremely realistic and it portrays the Russian viewpoint admirably well and does so without any sugarcoating.
The Soviets believed that they were the chosen way when in fact, they struggled to keep their own people supplied with consumer products thanks to rampant corruption and an incapable communist system.
Communism has never worked and yet, the modern Democrat Party would love to see it implemented here so they could control our lives from cradle to grave.  This is why the people of this country voted in overwhelming numbers to elect Donald Trump our president.
It also is why we need to fight back and beat the hell out of the Democrats.  Say what you will—I know I have jumped all over the place today—we still have the greatest country on the face of the earth but first must wipe the Democrats out as we speak.
Please, join me when I return sometime later this year and make sure you visit here tomorrow when Chef Fritz arrives to do his first week of the year.
Oh, you will note at the bottom of the post that I am shamelessly promoting all five seasons of “The Americans,” which I believe you will find to be quite enlightening.  Communism does not work and this show is the living proof of that fact.
See you next time, folks, and God bless you, God bless our country, and Lord, please wipe the Democrats out!
Thanks and God bless you all—we need Him on OUR side.

SUNDAY, APRIL 02, 2017

Paul McCartney released his next solo effort on November 12, 2001, “Driving Rain,” a 2-LP or single CD album.  Music critics proclaimed it a masterpiece and yet, sales were low, partly because record companies throw their older artists under the bus—even if they are a former Beatle.  He had a great cast of supporting musicians and the album is amazing, which is why we hope everyone will avail himself, herself, (or itself—hey, we try to remain current) of this spectacular effort.  Please—use the link we provide you here so you can take a digital journey to the world’s greatest online emporium in the world, Amazon.com.
