The 20th Century was a time of upheaval, war, death, and disaster and it would appear that similar problems are rising again; the question is, does Donald Trump have the substance to deal with them?

SPRING SESSION 2017

BLOGPOST #2,351 AT THE AICP-END

ONE HUNDRED-AND-FIFTY-TWO DAYS AFTER ELECTION DAY

PALM SUNDAY

Welcome to the inauguration of Easter Week
Pasadena, CA, 04-09-2017 Sunday: Hello and welcome to the Palm Sunday edition of the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day.  We are big Christians here even though we do have some Jewish colleagues, which is fine, that is how the world is supposed to be, everyone interacting together.  Some groups, however, such as Islam seems to want to keep to their own culture undiluted, which is why so many Americans tend to be suspicious of them.  Who can blame them for wanting to live apart and do their own thing when they are such ‘outsiders.’
Lately, I have had this growing fear that we are in the midst of a new cycle of fascism, communism, and dictatorial regimes as it was in twentieth century Europe.  During the interwar years between the Great War and World War II, numerous countries across Europe elected fascist or communist regimes, which set the world on a path to a bigger conflagration than the First World War.
We cannot discount the misery into which, the end of the War to End ALL Wars left the European continent and around the world, too, as colonial peoples began to experience the siren’s call of independence from European powers.
The former members of the Central Powers—Germany, Austro-Hungary, Bulgaria, and Turkey—all went through some sort of crisis in the postwar era.  Germany becoming impoverished and opening the door to national socialism, aka Nazism, or the Austro-Hungarian Empire fracturing into a wealth of new nations based upon individual nationalistic groups, and Italy going down the fascist path.
The Balkans went down a path in which, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and Yugoslavia all had totalitarian governments as did pathetic little Albania.  Germany—following in the path of Fascist Italy--commenced the path to National Socialism as of all the former Central Powers nations, they bore the brunt of the cost and the onus of the war.
Russia had undergone a communist revolution in 1917, which led to the overthrow of the czar and his empire and set course for the Soviet Union, which would exist until it imploded beneath its own weight in 1991.
Meanwhile, both Spain and Portugal elected strongmen to run them or went through a revolution, which led to a civil war as it did in Spain.
Across the Pacific, Japan—outraged at the Western nations excluding it from the peace conference that ended the First World War—continued down the totalitarian, militaristic path it had begun in 1905 with its devastation of the Russian fleet.
Newly gifted with former German possessions in the Pacific and in China, Japan embarked on a war of bloody conquest in northern and coastal China, an event that would set the stage for the Second World War as did the civil war that raged in Spain from 1936-1939.
Even Latin America was not free of despotism as various nations attempted to experience this new, ‘enlightened’ form of government—fascism—one that would right the wrongs of the past and set the participants on varying paths to glory.
In the United States—birthplace of democracy and all—a benevolent dictator of sorts—Franklin Delano Roosevelt—commenced the transformation of what the Founders made the nation and what FDR felt the nation should be—one in which, government had more say over the matters of its citizens.
There is a pair of great books we have at the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day library in Oildale, CA, books that Mo worked to put online so we could access them from our own computers.  The first is “Dark Continent: Europe’s Twentieth Century” and the second is, “Franco and Hitler” by Stanley G. Payne.
Both books paint amazing portraits of how a world can go haywire even when it is various members believes they are doing the right thing.  Only Germany believed that it would fight a second world war while the others allowed themselves to be drawn in for varying reasons.
Many wanted expansionism or wanted to hold onto diminishing empires or because of unsettled issues leftover from the previous world disruption of 1914-1918.  Germany most definitely wanted a war of conquest so it could expand eastward to the Lebensraum it so felt it deserved while others such as Italy wanted to expand empire or as the case of the Japanese to create a pan-Pacific empire in which, they would be supreme.
As we know, the world burst into flames 20 years after the end of the First World War in which millions more died than the appalling number of the first conflict.  Despotism and dictatorship as well as megalomania in some of the leaders left a good part of the world in ruins, people suffering from starvation, disease, and mistreatment.
The Second World War set other wars in motion such as the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam Conflict, and numerous other wars of independence or of secession from existing geopolitical entities.
The world now seems to be at odds with one another over expansionism once again or from radical Islam, which seeks to convert the entire world to its crackpot brand of lunatic religion.  As they did with the death of Mohammad, their so-called ‘prophet,’ Islam seeks to supplant the entire world’s order with a new order based upon fire and the sword.
The question is, how we will deal with this devious group of barbaric scum, people we should shove into prisons at the North Pole or on the moon.  Will ‘President’ Trump be able to deal with the monsters seeking to return the world to a belligerent state in which, we near the century mark or will he be able to protect the nation without keeping us in a modern-day 100 Years War?
I guess we shall see, no matter if we sit in ringside seats or in the nosebleed section.  Either way, we have little to no say in what happens over the next four years—hopefully less—but I guess we must make ready for the ‘end times’ that could be coming.
Hey, sorry for being so ‘dark’ today but I have been thinking about this situation for quite a while now, especially since our enlightened former leader now is out of office and a civilian once again.  Let us hope that Donald J. Trump actually has some substance and is not just spray-tan and hair.  Let us hope.
Have a glorious Easter and remember to celebrate the Lord.  In addition, I think Passover commences tomorrow so I hope Mo and his family have a delightful holiday, too.  See you all soon.
