WINTER SESSION 2017

BLOGPOST #2,301 AT THE AICP-END

ONE HUNDRED-AND-TWENTY-TWO DAYS AFTER ELECTION DAY

It would appear that someone might be doing something to aid our two blogs
Honolulu, HI, 03-10-2017 Friday: There comes a time when all good things must end and unless the folks at Google Blogger do not get their proverbial S**T together and get the hell out of our way, we will move over to Word Press.  There, I think we would find someone who wants us and with the help of the good folks at Go Daddy.com, we would put up not only a quality blog site but also a Web page where our fans can come and join us seven days a week.
Stinkbug started the original blog at Choseit.com back in early 2009, not long after Barack Obama won the White House the first time.  There, he cobbled together a loose grouping of friends so they could begin sharing the voices of professional chefs and foodservice workers with the ‘general public,’ a side of life which few outside the profession had ever heard.
On any given day across the United States and most likely around the world, people who labor in the food service industry discuss everything from politics in all suasions, forms, and agendas as well as sports, music, and whatever else pops into their minds.
The fact of the matter is more happens in these open air meetings than happens in your typical union hall as people express their honest feelings and not just what they suspect others might want to hear such as all things ‘PC.’
The great thing about environments such as this is that if one can work and talk at the same time, the prep work time flows by and then all that occurs after that is a few quick hours on the cook’s line before cleanup and the outward bound clock out and begin heading home or to the nearest watering hole.
Throughout the day, night, or on the graveyard shift, chefs, cooks, bartenders, food servers, cleaning crews, the dishwashers and pot washers, purveyors, you name it, we discuss it, it is what they do and in so doing it, they spread information, provide new and wonderful ideas, and people benefit from the discourse.
I generally concur with everything Stinkbug says and one of the things he has always promoted loud and clear is the need for food service owners and operators to inform their staffs exactly what they have to lose if they vote the wrong way.
Granted, governmental sources might see these ‘clandestine’ meetings as threats to their power, which is why we do it out in the open.
You see, we invite everyone to come in on their days off and then run 2-3 cycles in which, we do our best to reach every worker and explain to them exactly what is going to happen in the election if they vote for certain candidates.
This is an important part of being a business owner as with our youngest employees many times they lack the guidance at home that we can provide them.  We told them what would happen if Donald Trump won the last election or if Hillary Clinton won it and let them then go home and make the right decision
I guess what I am saying is that we restaurant folk now do what the crumbling education system once did and that was provide the students with a working mind.  Now, they fill their minds with all sorts of erroneous information such as there being 100 genders or more or that we owe them EVERYTHING because the nation once held slaves.
I hate to say this, slavery was the way of the world back before the Civil War ended it at least in the United States and I will tell you something else, I do not feel that I or anyone else living in Hawaii owes a dime of restitution to anyone whose family might have distant members once held in bondage.  Bea, however, might disagree with me but hey, we deserve our kingdom back, then!
This is what is wrong with the world we have far too many people who believe they have the RIGHT to have whatever it is they want including what you own in YOUR own home.  I have no clue as to where these lolos get these ideas but the one thing I do know is that many of them emanate from their schools.
Before the big housing boom and the arrival of Lord knows how many haeoles began flooding into the islands, we had a working society whereas now, crime is up, people are out of work, and life is tough.
They brought their crazy ideas with them, forced them onto our local kids, and then after two decades of this insanity, our children now resemble the dope-smoking losers transplanted from the mainland and from other parts of the world.
We sure did not want to take in the large numbers of illegal alien kids nor did we want to take in Muslim refugees that the last administration wanted to force upon us.  We used to have a way of life that made men into warriors and women into ‘ladies’ whereas now, thanks to the influx of haeoles, we now have a culture of dependence.
I hope that President Trump keeps his promises and allows the states to return to doing things in whatever way they wish.  I hope he disembowels Obamacare instead of forcing Trump Care down our gullets.
If we do not receive help and receive it soon, I do not know what to tell you, I fear our islands will become overpopulated and the way of life we have long enjoyed will head out to sea with the Sun.
Please, leave some comments, let me know what you think on any of our aforementioned topics, and we will debate the issues and know that I look forward to hearing from all of you, even the mainland haeoles.  Thanks, God bless and aloha.

This is a photo of me back in the 1980’s when I was working at a hotel in Honolulu, HI, on Waikiki Beach.  I began my career in the early 1970’s when I apprenticed to cook under one of the masters on the Big Island where I was born.  I moved to Oahu in the early 1980’s after having worked in both Kona and Hilo, HI, and have been there for most of my professional career.  I have also worked on Maui for a few years (1995-1998) and have been on Kauai (2001-2003) before returning to Honolulu.  My goal is to prepare the next generation of chefs for the future and to help the underprivileged in their struggle to attain careers in the foodservice industry.
