WINTER SESSION 2017

BLOGPOST #2,300 AT THE AICP-END

ONE HUNDRED-AND-TWENTY-ONE DAYS AFTER ELECTION DAY

Our battles with the host continue unabated—what is up with Google Blogger?
Honolulu, HI, 03-09-2017 Thursday: I feel bad that my week seems to be one in which, we find ourselves engaged with forces unknown although most of us suspect Google is behind the problem with the blogs appearing as they should appear.  We have no clue as to who is behind the attempt to shut us down or why someone opposes us when there are so many blogs out there under the sun, which use far worse language than any of us blogging here, do.
We hope that if Google will not do the right thing and either defend us against unknown enemies or is the entity attempting to disrupt our presence on the Internet, that they will do the right thing and shut us down; otherwise, get the hell out of the way and allow us to continue unabated.
From what we understand, ‘Error 503’ means that the site is down for maintenance.  This means that some physical presence is doing work on the site.  Since we are the ones who run the blog that means some malevolent entity is out there doing its best to make sure that you cannot hear our voices via our posts.
The thing that makes us laugh is who would have thought that our puny little blog—one that chefs in three states produce—would rate someone causing us problems via keeping us from being viewed by you, the viewer?
If there is anyone out there who has a clue about this sort of thing and can inform us as to what we need to do, please get in touch with us and let us know because this is horribly frustrating.  What is the point in any of us sharing his or her opinion when unseen forces can cause such havoc?  I thought Net Neutrality was now a moot issue but seemingly NOT SO.
Right now, there is a big problem going on across the country and the problem is the repeal and the replacing of Obamacare.  Look, Lalo and I run a restaurant here on Oahu, we generally do okay but most of the time, we get by on the skin of our teeth.
Everywhere one looks, costs of doing business go up, labor, supplies, support, insurance, energy, and yes, Obamacare, all of these things can cause problems with the bottom line.
That is correct; the once best way to hire the top workers—providing health care insurance with various options—now is the millstone around the employer’s neck.  It is inescapable and it has dragged us to the bottom of the void where we lash about seeking escape.
Back in the early days of Barack Obama’s presidency, we believed in the promises he and his surrogates made as they told us, “If you like your insurance plan, you can keep it and if you like your doctor, you can him or her.’
Well, we quickly found out once it went into effect AFTER the 2012 Election—remember, President Obama would not have won reelection had Obamacare hit us full bore prior to his reelection campaign—that our beloved president had sold us the ‘proverbial bill of goods.’  Bah!
In effect, what President Obama, Jonathan Gruber, and the rest of the promoters of nationalized medicine gave us was an ongoing disaster crushing business owners, slashing wages and hours, and driving already disappearing profits to the lowest point in decades.
I hope that President Trump will keep his word and fix the Obamacare disaster as if he does not, then our entire system of health care is going to plummet even farther down the mineshaft.
Please, remove the lines around the states and allow us the option to choose insurance plans that we design for ourselves, and not ones the government wants to stuff down our throats.
I find myself agreeing more and more with those who demand that we want the liberty to make our own personalized health care decisions, and not the government.  Liberty is extremely important but people lack the vision to see the future, which means loss of liberty does not take hold until we have lost liberty.
As I have said before, I will never not be a Democrat; however, given all of the things we have seen go wrong over the past eight years, one has to open one’s eyes and ears as Tommy did in the Who’s rock opera of the same name as else, one will remain a cog in the machine.
I doubt anyone ever thought that Obamacare would be akin to entering the Matrix and then finding it inescapable.  We do not even have the choice between the ‘red’ and the ‘blue’ pills all we know is that whatever choice we make and whatever steps we take, well, they could be our last.
Google, how about taking us out of the sandbox, quit punishing us, and allow us to reach new and greater heights, a place where we can share the heretofore-unheard political views of professional chefs.  Who knows, maybe you might benefit from allowing us to escape your damned sandbox.
Thanks for joining me today—especially if you were actually able to read my post—and note that I will be back here tomorrow ready for another go with the negative entities that seek to destroy our valuable work.
Aloha and God bless.

This is a photo of me back in the 1980’s when I was working at a hotel in Honolulu, HI, on Waikiki Beach.  I began my career in the early 1970’s when I apprenticed to cook under one of the masters on the Big Island where I was born.  I moved to Oahu in the early 1980’s after having worked in both Kona and Hilo, HI, and have been there for most of my professional career.  I have also worked on Maui for a few years (1995-1998) and have been on Kauai (2001-2003) before returning to Honolulu.  My goal is to prepare the next generation of chefs for the future and to help the underprivileged in their struggle to attain careers in the foodservice industry.
