SUMMER SESSION 2016

BLOGPOST #2,117 AT THE AICP-END

Whether we want to admit it or not, the Democratic Party is in DEEP S**T
Pasadena, CA, 09-07-2016 Wednesday: If you have read our blog for any length of time, you should know I am a loyal, lifelong Democrat.  The current election could be a turning point in my feelings toward our party as I have no idea HOW or WHY the DNC and other leading Democratic leaders have allowed things to go as far as they have.  Hillary is not doing well—no matter how much the media proclaims she is!—because the frequent coughing fits, the dry mouth, the babbling, the glassy-eyed stares, all of the questionable signs and symptoms we see should drive the fear of God Almighty into ALL of us.  Something here is not right and I fear we are going to lose the White House to one of the great carnival barkers of all time, Donald J. Trump.  \
Currently, the only thing going for us is that the bulk of the mainstream news media works mightily to keep the looming signs of disaster from the airwaves the best it can.  This does not mean, however, that other media outlets--mainly talk radio and FOX News--are not getting the message out there because radio and FNC are and are doing a grand job of it.
How are we supposed to respond to queries launched at us by employees, neighbors, friends, and family when people ask, “What is wrong with our candidate?”  I have no idea what to say to them.  When they ask if Tim Kaine could be our next president, I will admit I am flabbergasted at the thought—how could Democrats accept something such as this—is he our ‘Gerald Ford?’
The disaster we see looming on the horizon is one we are not going to be able to counter unless we find a way to keep Hillary away from the public eye while pushing all of our proxies out there to battle the Donald.  The one thing we have going for us besides the media is that Trump cannot fail to respond to attacks coming at him from left field and so like the proverbial bull in the China shop, he wades in to do battle with things that pull him off message.
Furthermore, Donald Trump seeks to break the black vote away from the Democratic Party where we have held it since the days of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, John F. Kennedy, and Lyndon Baines Johnson.  The black vote has ALWAYS been a part of the Democratic coalition and even though many times our politicians fail to improve their circumstances, as a voting bloc, they have long remained loyal.
Now, however, Trump reaches out to black America and I fear that he might be doing a grand job of it.  The black Democrats are as tired of our empty promises as the Republican voters are tired of their politicians promising them they will do something about the millions of illegal aliens overrunning the country.  Heck, I wish someone would do something about the illegal aliens because I am as tired of them as are the Republican voters.  Try living in Los Angeles for any length of time and you will see what I am saying.
Back to the issue at hand (and note, my feelings on illegal immigration are unimportant here), if Trump somehow manages to pull the black voters away from our coalition, he could stab the Democratic Party through the heart.  I have long felt that in order to maintain the groups one adds to a coalition of equals, one cannot fail to provide or to keep the promises made to the groups.  Once we begin taking our individual component groups for granted, we are no better than our opponents are and will face the same upheaval and turmoil the GOP faced this election cycle.
What I am saying is that NO one expected Donald Trump to wipe the floor with the other 16 candidates because say what you will, the GOP field this time around was formidable.  They had accomplished governors, senators, business leaders, and a pediatric neurosurgeon among their ranks and any single one of them could have given our weak field a run for its money.  Even Bernie Sanders, a man with a dream that would NEVER work in this country now could not go up against any of the Republicans because people are not yet ready for an equal society.
Bernie, however, was a more charismatic candidate than the one we now have and while I respect deals made to various politicians when it comes to maintaining power and continuing the spread of Obamaism to future generations, we face trouble.  We face problems by putting up a forgetful, dishonest ‘crook’ (I am not immune to what Trump says about Hillary) is akin to launching a banzai charge against a highly fortified position—it will not work.
Another place I see impending issues is among the Latino voters.  While MY party continues to see them as monolithic, living in Los Angeles and giving them employment tells me they are anything BUT monolithic.  In fact, the Hispanic voters are as diverse a crowd as is any other in the nation and many among them—at least in my experience—find themselves attracted to Trump’s message of a better future.  Everyone wants a better life for their kids and their kids and if Trump can find a way to deliver such a thing, we might lose yet another constituency group.
My fear tells me we are on the verge of something BIG happening in our nation.  If Trump should win the White House and can deliver on his promises, we could see a tidal wave of departures across the spectrum of groups that make up our party.  Our party depends upon the support of so many groups that it makes the GOP appear to be the one that is ‘monolithic.’  Sure, they have troubles within their ranks as proven by the fact that Trump is the nominee but if he does well, there is a great chance of the doubters acquiescing and rallying around his standard.
If something such as this were to happen, the Democratic Party as we know it could roam the wilderness for 40 years in much the same way the GOP did until their Contract with America back in 1994 gave them control of the House and increased their numbers in the Senate.  Granted, it was not all pink-colored glasses, s’mores, and Hawaiian Punch, but they did manage to hold President Bill Clinton in check and almost drove him out of office.
The fact that Clinton managed to retain the White House says something about his abilities as a politician, something I think Mrs. Clinton lacks and when coupled with what seems to be a growing health crisis, we could face massive defeat and major defections from our ranks in November.  If this happens, our ‘salad days’ are over and the Democratic ship of state will have hit the iceberg and will sink in roiling waters—God, I hope this is not the case.
I hope we can somehow find a way to either help Hillary attain the goal or that if she cannot—beset by her email scandal, her health, her untrustworthiness, and other crippling problems—then we need to be able to trot Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden out there to take the torch from her.  We, as a party, have NEVER faced a disaster such as the one we face now and I hope to God that we find some sort of way to recover and to move on to victory.  It is a trifle too late, if you ask me, but I am loyal to a fault and feel that I can speak freely to YOU, the readership.
Let me know what YOU think and we will debate the issues.  Meanwhile, please join me at the secondary blog today because we approach the final images of Beverly Carrick’s artworks, something we have worked long and hard at sharing.  Oh, please indulge my pocketbook by buying some of the albums we offer here at the blog such as the latest ones by a great British band, the Hollies.
We also promote Roxy Music over at the secondary blog and hope if you enjoy that band that you will check them out over there—we welcome everyone.  See you soon.
Thank you, my friends-

The Hollies previous two studio albums caused a rift between the bandmates as Graham Nash was the ONLY one who ‘tuned in, turned on, and dropped out,’ as the disciples of Timothy Leary typically said.  The rest of the group tended to tipple whereas Nash was branching out and seeking fellow soul mates, which he found in Stephen Stills of the Buffalo Springfield and David Crosby, formerly of the ByrdsThe Hollies regrouped and with a new lineup featuring Allan Clarke (vocals), Bobby Elliott (drums), Tony Hicks (vocals, lead guitar), Graham Nash (vocals, rhythm guitar), Bernie Calvert (bassist/keyboardist), and new rhythm guitarist/vocalist, Terry Sylvester recorded an album of Bob Dylan covers.  “Hollies Sing Dylan” (1969) hit Number 3 on the UK charts although some claim everyone—fans and critics alike—disliked the record.  Still, we think it is a fine release and if you like the original Hollies and original Byrds, you will enjoy this album.  Please, use the link we provide you here so you can pick it up at Amazon.com where you can get it in the format, the condition, and the price that works best for you—you will enjoy it.
