THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CULINARY POLITICS-ELEMENTAL NEWS OF THE DAY COMMENTARY-OPINION-SPORTS-FOODSERVICE FOR MONDAY, JULY 25, 2016 BY CHEF ROLAND CARL DAVIS

SUMMER SESSION 2016

BLOGPOST #2,073 AT THE AICP-END

Thank you for joining me today as I do my first post at the blog
Arvin, CA, 07-25-2016 Monday: Dear readers, I am Roland Carl Davis and this is the first time I have actually written a post here at the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day.  Generally, I work on both the editorial staff with Moses and whenever Moses is not around, I typically do his job for him.  I am a professional chef, too, which is why I have helped Stinkbug since the inception of the blog back in 2010.  I enjoy what I do and am proud to be doing my first week and hope that you will join me throughout it.
I have been in the professional foodservice business for a long, long time and if any of you recall the late great Victor Hugo restaurant on the cliffs of the California coastline down around Laguna Beach, then you know the sorts of operations in which, I have involved myself.  I am a certified working chef with the American Culinary Federation and am pleased to continue working into my old age.
I live in Arvin, California, a small town hugging the eastern Tehachapi Mountains on the eastern side of the Southern San Joaquin Valley, a beautiful town where we still enjoy the small town feeling, something that seems to be disappearing in America.   Arvin is one of the few places within Kern County where the everyday humdrum of life does not drag one down into despair or depression because it is so invigorating.
I work up the road in Tehachapi, a beautiful mountain community where one of the big businesses if you will is the state prison located across from what used to be Bear Valley Springs.  We have numerous gorgeous mountain communities nestled in the hills of the mountains surrounding the town and it sure as heck is a prime vacation spot.
My politics are Democratic, I have been a Democrat since I first listened to my mother and father debate the issues back in the 1950s and 1960s and although the party has moved hard Left, it still has remnants of what made it the sterling party it once was.  I hope that we can discuss politics over the course of this week, as we know the Democratic National Convention today commences in Philadelphia while the Republicans had their bash last week.  We have so much of which, to chat about and we will begin doing it now.
I have been a supporter of Hillary since she started her first bid for the presidential nomination of the Democrat Party and certainly support her now.  Although Donald Trump sometimes says the right things, I think as a President, he will be more than our nation can contend with; it seems he wants to be a dictator.  He calls himself the ‘law-and-order candidate?’—NO, the man wants to be KING.
During his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, everything he said sounded somewhat similar to a dictator telling his adoring crowd, “I am going to do this, I am going to do that, and when I do this, there will be no more of this or that.”  On the other hand, the things he proclaims he is going to do such as repealing and replacing Obamacare with something better, he does not tell us HOW he plans to do it.
As for Hillary’s Vice Presidential pick, I began writing my first post on Friday just to make sure I ironed out whatever bugs it might contain seeing as how I have not done this prior to now.  Even though I think Bernie Sanders could be somewhat ‘erratic,’ it might help the party had she reached out to him in the same way that Barack Obama reached out to her.
We do know that that is not going to happen, however, because all of the Bernie fans out there roaming the byways of America might get some nutty idea inside their craniums and seek to remove her from the picture.  Therefore, there will be NO Bernie.
I suspect, too, that she would not seriously consider Elizabeth Warren, the Senator from the great state of Massachusetts, because she tends to stir up similar emotions as does Bernie in the hearts and minds of his supporters.  I think there are some pretty whacked-out people in the country—albeit most of them on the RIGHT side of the aisle—but still, we could not take a chance of a Warren supporter going after Mrs. Clinton.
As for Tim Kaine, I think he is a bit mild although the man speaks Spanish as though he were a native.  Tom Vilsack, he once was a top Democrat and one whom I respect.  Cory Booker, well, who knows?   Despite whatever anyone might say, “I am with her.”
I think Hillary Clinton is the ONLY one with the experience, the knowledge, the expertise, and the energy to fix the problems of the nation.  While I support and admire President Obama, he has not been able to accomplish all of the things he set out to do because of the intransigence of the Republicans who dominate both the Senate and the House.  They also control more than half of the states so the President faces determined opposition who may be against him all because of his race.
We certainly know that the mood in the country is highly negative and overly charged, as we have seen white cops shooting black men and youths, people who do not have weapons or if they do, have not drawn their weapons and threatened anyone with them.  I have no idea why things are as bad as they are in the country but my hope is that we can somehow defuse the bomb that is waiting to explode across all strata of society.
You see, we have real problems with which, to contend and all of the sideshow goofiness we see taking place on the opposing side of the aisle is unimportant and worse, time-consuming.  A do-nothing Congress sure does not help things in the country and that is WHY we need to regain control of the House and Senate and get another Supreme Court Justice onto the high court so we can make things good for ALL Americans, not just those residing at the top of the heap.
Friends, let us hope that all goes well over the course of the next four days or so and that our Convention in Philly is both classy and attracts more diverse people than the whitewashed sea we observed in Cleveland.  I think many of the Republicans who have been party faithful for a long, long time did the right thing in avoiding the carnival-like atmosphere that the showman-in-chief brought to it.
I have to admit that I have never seen an event such as the one we witnessed last week.  The GOP built it atop the ‘cult of personality,’ that it reminded me of watching North Koreans marching along in celebration of their boy-dictator, the little cream puff, Kim Jung-Il.  What a tragedy we saw unfold before our eyes last week but this week, we will show those Republicans how to do it.
I have to ask you to support the great music and advertisers we promote here at the blog, as that is what keeps us afloat.  I ask you to leave comments and to share your ideas with me, as without them, we cannot engage in a dialogue that could benefit ALL of us.
See you tomorrow and thank you for joining me today, I look forward to sharing more of my thoughts with you and hope that you bring everyone you know to support me.  God bless you and God bless our great nation—rescue is in sight!  Have a great day.
Thank you,
R. C. Davis

In 2012, Charlie Watts released and a collection of Boogie Woogie tunes in conjunction with Axel Zwingenberger and Dave Green.  If you have no idea as to what ‘BOOGIE WOOGIE’ is or was; well, you have a great deal of musical fun to own.  In the old days, black artists created a unique piano style that kept people from remaining in their seats for more than a few seconds before getting up and moving and grooving to the music.  For many years, the music was somewhat lost as it existed only on 78-RPM and when record players left off 78s, well, there went the music so many of us love.  We sure as heck do, which is why you check this LIVE CD, entitled, “The Magic of Boogie Woogie Live in Paris,” out by going to Amazon.com—using our link of course—and checking it out for yourselves.  You will be so glad you did.
