The Leftwing Anti-War Leftists who brought about the Collapse of South Vietnam now seek to do the Same Thing to America, a Nation they despise, hate, and want to undermine—we must STOP them on November 07 by voting for Donald Trump

SUMMER SESSION 2016

BLOGPOST #2,049 AT THE AICP-END

We did not lose the war in Vietnam; the American Left did
Los Angeles, CA, 07-01-2016 Friday:  Wow, it is hard to imagine that today is the first day of July.  We are on the second half of the year now with the road headed downhill to December, New Year’s Eve and Day celebrations and into 2017.  I am glad I am here at this time because I enjoy doing the blog once, sometimes twice, a year.
If you live in California, then you know that from south of San Francisco down to the Mexican border and eastward to Nevada or Arizona, it gets hotter than HELL.  Currently, we are seeing high temperatures in the state and of course, the warbling global warming birds cry out that ‘we on the verge of the hottest summer in recorded history.’
I think it is great that we have an opportunity to ‘make history,’ in whatever way possible with the exception of President Obama surrendering to ISIS or the flipping Iranians nuking us before he leaves office.
While this might sound a trifle negative, I feel compelled to say that ‘I cannot wait for this self-serving, America-hating president to leave the highest office of the land behind.  I would rather have lived underneath eight years of Joe Biden than this, despicable man who always finds fault with the country a majority of the people (including the dead, illegal aliens, and ex-convicts) elected him to lead.  I thought I had seen everything up until his ascension to office in January 2009 but I doubt ANY of us had seen a thing compared to this Saul Alinsky-loving bum.’
I was born in 1941 so you figure out my age and at the time I was old enough to recollect and to remember things, the world was just coming out of a situation of worldwide conflict.  By the time I hit age 10, war exploded in Korea and once again, the United States found itself involved in a distant war this time against communism.
As I recall, patriotism was everywhere, no one ever expressed hatred for the United States but a feeling of the purist love, of a desire to serve and do whatever it took to protect not only our home front but that of our allies who at the time, were the South Koreans.
No one looked forward to losing a family member overseas but when it happened, we knew that the soldiers, sailors, Marines, or fliers gave their lives for the founding principles of the nation.  They sacrificed them to protect our way of life and they gave them to protect people whom they did not personally know.  They gave them and did so with a spirit of being part of the greatest nation on Earth and that it was their sacred duty to do so.
Then the conflict in Vietnam rolled around.  Like many, I received a request from Uncle Sam to serve and remember at the time the fear and dread of heading to the induction center to undergo the rigorous physical and mental tests.  Standing in line naked as a jaybird with nothing but a towel to cover my nakedness, I endured the prodding, the poking, the opening of my mouth, the backend, and doing it in front of a thousand or more other men as we all labored through the process.
Uncle Sam did not call me to serve because I had asthma at the time and no one wanted someone wheezing and coughing in the midst of nighttime jungle maneuvers so I felt spared but at the same time guilty, too.  I thought that I was somehow guilty of not pushing myself harder to make it through the requirements to serve the nation in the military at the time.  You have to remember that back in the early-to-mid-1960s, the United States could and should have won the war but already there were chinks showing within the armor of unity that once protected and enveloped our nation.
The anti-war movement was vociferous and it was growing as more and more Americans began to question the nation’s involvement abroad in the affairs of people with whom we had nothing in common.  I blame the liberal, leftwing movement then growing within the heartland for causing us to lose the war.  Granted, I think that government and the military also had a hand in the debacle that led to us fleeing from the rooftop of the U.S. Embassy in Saigon.  Here is why:
The war became an experiment of sorts, one in which, the military decided to forego the time-honored practice of taking and holding enemy territory.  Instead, it elected to go with ‘body counts,’ saying that ‘the more we compiled large numbers of enemy dead, the more successful we were in winning the war.’  However, every time we took ground, we vacated it not long after and the enemy, like water, rolled back in when we rolled back out.
No matter how many North Vietnamese we killed in action or in bombing runs over their cities and towns, they more or less reproduced the lost numbers every year.  The United States, on the other hand, did not want to see rising body counts of our own and the Tet Offensive of 1968—an uprising we won—drained the willpower from the people to continue sending our sons and sometimes daughters to die in a foreign war.
Oh, we can blame the leftwing movements here on the home front such as the Yippies, the Weather Underground, and other communist-run- or infiltrated organizations with sapping the will of the Peace and Love generation to fight.  Hell, I even reconsidered my patriotism as I watched people I knew come home maimed or in body bags because I felt that it was the government’s first duty to win the war using whatever means it required to do so instead of maintaining a meat grinder for its citizens.
After a while, one could easily believe the leftwing propaganda that the rich and powerful within the nation, including the industrialists and the crony capitalists who grew fat on providing the tools of war at exorbitant costs, did so over the bodies of the young, poor white people, blacks, Asians, Native Americans, and Latinos.  If that were not the reason, then why did we not do what it took to win the war as quickly as we should have instead of farting around and bringing unnecessary death and misery home to mothers across the land?
Up until the Vietnam War—and I call it a ‘war’ because it was a ‘war’—the nation kept the left in check.  During the course of the war, the leftwing of America asserted itself with very little pushback.  Between the constant protests, the nightly news coverage, and the growing body counts, they crippled the nation’s resolve and ability to win the war.
Richard M. Nixon urged the Vietnamese to take over the course of the war (“Vietnamization” as he called it) so America could withdraw but promised them ‘we would come to their aid should they need it.’  However, the liberals and the Democrats managed to drive Nixon from office by using phony, trumped-up charges over the Watergate ‘cover up.’
Then, when President Gerald R. Ford, his successor, received the call from the South Vietnamese to help them in 1975, he asked Congress to authorize the use of air power and other military units to stiffen the backs of the overwhelmed government of  SVN, the lawmakers balked and the South fell.
This is WHY we now have a unified Vietnam, one the communists stole from our grasp, one whom we abandoned to the Fates along with the 55,000-plus Americans who died fighting to keep them free.  For years, Vietnam veterans suffered public abuse for their service abroad, service in which, I, too, should have taken part if not for health reasons.  There are many times when I still feel regret for not having gone with my fellow Americans to do the duty the Constitution demands of us but other times when I am glad I did not.
The America we have today is the product of the people who fought against the war instead of to win it.  Most of the older members of Congress are people as old as I am, from that era, who were awash in the politics of insanity.  Barack Obama might not have been old enough to take part in or to have any memory of those times beyond the leftist pabulum his mother and grandparents instilled within him but these anti-war leftists sure as hell have schooled the 44th president.
What I said yesterday about a global effort being necessary to keep the free nations of the world free is in danger of dying on the vine thanks to the leftists running the show.  Please, for Pete’s sake, do not allow the liberal news media to fill your mind full of stories as to how Donald Trump is not viable.  Do not allow rightwing losers such as Glenn Beck or some others to fill your mind with images of Trump being a liberal Democrat in disguise.  We must win this election in November and Trump is the ONLY one who can put the nation back to work.  Are you with me, or are you with the forces of devastation, destruction, and overthrow of the Constitution?
I await your comments.
Thank you,
Elmer K. Hootenstein
