SUMMER SESSION 2016

BLOGPOST #2,045 AT THE AICP-END

Terrorism seems to be on the minds of everyone
Los Angeles, CA, 06-27-2016 Monday: Hello, everyone, it is lovely to be here once again seeing as how the last time I was here was slightly over a year ago.  Our rotation changes during non-election years to ones in which, we have either a mid-term or a presidential election because in the former, Mo does the full summer while in the latter, he does not write until the late-November-to-January of the following year.  Currently, I believe he is on vacation once again, back in Israel where he and his family go almost every two years because that is where they plan to spend their retirement.  God bless him and his family because I would be afraid to go there, it is bad enough we face terrorism here but terrorism over there, well, it seems to be cyclical.
Not too long ago, a pair of brothers or cousins from the West Bank entered a food establishment and shot the place up, for what exact purpose they chose the establishment is beyond me but obviously, to spread fear and terror to the citizens and visitors to their country.  The fear of terror spreads across the globe and it too, seems to be somewhat cyclical.  People living in the Middle East who predominantly are non-Muslim seem to suffer various outbreaks that cause havoc wherever they are.
We know that when the Iranian Revolution hit, suddenly, there was a ‘flap’ of Shiite-caused terrorist attacks throughout many parts of the Middle East and Central Asia.  As with the French Revolution of 1789, the ones who fomented the upheaval were not content to keep it within their borders and soon began to send it outside their national boundaries into other nearby European nations.  It was this spread that eventually would give rise to Napoleon Bonaparte who wanted to spread French hegemony and domination everywhere, and in effect, restored a monarchy to the people of France who recently deposed their previous monarch, Louis XVI.
In 1979 and 1980, the Iranian mullahs looked across the Shatt-al-Arab waterway boundary dividing their nation from neighboring Iraq and sought to spread their evil ‘bug’ to the Shiite majority living beneath the Sunni-led minority ruled over by Saddam Hussein.  They fought a major war that commenced in September 1980 and ended in August 1988 that caused more death and lasted longer than any previous war of the 20th Century since World War II.  It took American and other aid to Iraq and condemnation of the Iranians by many countries across the globe that finally caused the Mullahs to come to terms with their Arab enemies.
However, Iraq—the victor of the war simply by outlasting the enemy—found itself beset by massive debt, hundreds of thousands of military troops suddenly on the brink of demobilization and without jobs awaiting them on the home front, and a hostile Shiite majority on its hands.  What to do, what to do, Saddam Hussein decided that if his fellow Arab countries would not bail him out financially—especially since he felt that HE and Iraq had fought to preserve the Arab world against Persian invasion, he would move on neighboring Kuwait.
Besides, Saddam reasoned that Kuwait was actually the 19th province of his nation and that earlier British hegemony following the end of World War II had given the emirate its own independence.  The Western power felt that it would be easier for Britain to get its hands on the rich oil resources there and not have to do business with Iraq, which without the Kuwaitis on board divided the resources and robbed the Persian Gulf nation of valuable income.  Saddam accused the Kuwaitis of ‘slant-drilling,’ which in essence meant the emirate drilled underneath the common border and robbed Iraq of income—time for war.
Following the invasion of Kuwait in August 1990, Saddam received an unexpected surprise in that the Western World, neighboring Arab states, and other global nations all dependent upon oil from the Persian Gulf but especially from Kuwait decided that they would have to bind together to throw out the Iraqis.  Saddam thought he was ready to face anything and with his massive military still mobilized and ready for battle, the dictator planned to fight the ‘mother of all battles.’
Well, things did not go the way he thought they would, the world came to the aid of the Kuwaitis by building up a massive military machine across the border in Saudi Arabia.  After six months of nonstop buildup and mobilization, a massive air assault began against Iraqi forces in Kuwait that obliterated many of their strongpoints, airfields, aircraft, armor, artillery, and troop concentrations.
Following the air war, the allied forces rolled across and around the Iraqi forces and drove them out with a speed not seen since the Nazis used Blitzkrieg on its European neighbors from 1939-1941.  Although the Iraqis did great havoc on the oil fields of Kuwait, the forces opposed to them managed to get things under control within a seemingly short time so that oil exports could resume and the world could go back to its everyday business.
The problem we now face as a nation is one that began with the wars the Israelis fought against their Arab neighbors, wars I have to note they did not cause unless you count them just being there.  The Iranian Revolution of 1979 drove the Shiites of the world to rise and to spread terrorism and then, the Iraq-Iran War and the invasion of Kuwait caused even more mayhem and disruption in the Islamic world.  Of course, as the nationalists and revolutionaries began to fight against the West--whom they believed were behind Israel and who sought to spread their ‘immoral culture’ to places that did not want it--terror became the norm.
Bill Clinton made mistakes in not responding to al-Qaida except in pinpricks with which, he sought to keep his poll numbers up and then under George W. Bush and the September 11, 2001, terror attacks the war exploded.  Invading Afghanistan was a good thing but toppling Saddam Hussein in Iraq but then not being prepared for the consequences of his and his regime’s fall, led us to where we now are but it did not have to be that way.
Barack Obama holds the final responsibility for the birth of ISIS, ISIL, or Da’ish because he inherited a stable and somewhat docile Iraq.  Instead of maintaining forces there to keep it that way, he found a way to abandon them through blaming them for not signing the Status of Forces document that would have prevented Iraqi prosecution of ‘crimes’ Americans might have committed.  He left them to the wolves.
Now, we have terror on the home soil of the United States, virtually an attack per year as other chef-bloggers have noted at the blog.  It began with Fort Hood and so far this year at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida; however, we still have seven months to go so what might still happen prior to President Obama leaving office—no one knows.  We will discuss this thread and numerous others throughout our week together because like it or not, we are in the midst of the Third World War.  The War on Terror now is the third global conflict the world has fought and whether nations not yet involved in it understand this sobering fact, it is clear the war will eventually find them.
Thanks for joining me today and throughout the rest of the week, we thrive when we interact with the readership and that readership is YOU, the online patron.  Please, check out the music we advertise by the Rolling Stones and its various individual members because we offer nothing but the BEST music.  Thank you.

In 2004, Charlie Watts released a live album, “Watts at Scotts.” Jazz lovers LOVE this album as it shows how versatile Mr. Watts is, both as a drummer and as the leader of a band.  His ten-piece orchestra delivers the musical goods on tunes that range from the 1940s through the 1960s.  As a bonus, Keith Richards and Mick Jagger join the band on one of the tracks, which is a surprise to all.  Please, use our link so you can redirect your browser to Amazon.com so you can pick it up in the format, the condition, and the price that works for you—you will be glad you did.
