No one knows WHY or understands HOW promising Television Shows suddenly get the Ax—what is the Point in watching a NEW Show when no one knows how long it will be on TV?

SPRING SESSION 2016

BLOGPOST #2,011 AT THE AICP-END

What is the point watching a TV show if the producers will give it the ax before it even gets up a head of steam?
Mukilteo, WA, 05-24-2016 Tuesday: I have read some of the comments of my colleagues regarding certain TV shows, that they enjoy watching and how without any explanation whatsoever, we read that a show will receive the ax without further thought or additional information.  What my fellow bloggers say is that “Why watch a show if the network will give it the ax because to invest time, effort, and attention in watching a show develop only to see it vanish makes no sense whatsoever.”
I can tell you something about professional chefs, we seldom have time to do much other than to plan menus, inform the staff, make sure everything we need is coming in on the truck or is already on hand, and planning banquets.  The point is, we spend so much time working, or supervising the work of others (while being mother and father to some of the crew) so when we go home, we look forward to some normalcy.  That means, we expect to watch certain shows and when the shows ‘disappear,’ we become somewhat consternated and somewhat upset.
Some of the shows mentioned by my colleagues have been “The Bridge” and “The Bastard Executioner,” both of which are products of FX, I believe.  I will admit, I watched both of the shows, enjoyed both of them, and then come to find out that the shows are GONE.  Why are they gone?  I enjoyed them.  Besides, the story lines were good, the plots gripping, and the acting superb and yet, they vanished without a reasonable explanation.  What the hell, right?
My suggestion to the producers and the TV moguls is that if you have a quality show, promote it so people come to watch it.  Make sure you rerun the first episodes or that you play the previous season several times so that new viewers can get up to speed.  Imagine if one could not see the first seasons of “Game of Thrones,” one would be completely lost and not have a clue as to what the program really is about, people need an opportunity to delve into any program before they can become loyal followers.
In the end, I may as well sit and watch golf, bowling, tennis, or horseshoes rather than expend time and effort to watch a show that will be no more.  Take for instance, the aforementioned “The Bastard Executioner,” that show had the potential to be a great multi-season show but oh, no, the network says not enough people watched it, that perhaps Kurt Sutter should have dumbed-down the language so the Millennial imbeciles could ‘comprehend it.’  Good Lord, these dimwits cannot wipe their own asses without repeated, daily instruction as to how to do so, so why in God’s Holy Name would Mr. Sutter attempt to do something that does not always even work on the BIG SCREEN?  Make it so everyone can participate in the show and get some skin in the game, which means you have to promote a show as well as give people the opportunity to watch more than a partial or one season.
I will say, a few years ago, well, maybe a decade or so, there was a show entitled, “Kingpin,” about a Mexican drug lord and his family issues.  I watched both seasons and they were intense and troubling at times, I thought this was going to be a great multi-season show and then, it up and vanished.  I thought it was great, you can pick the two seasons up by going to Amazon.com, and buying them, but you will see them nowhere else.  I am surprised that “Weeds” even got a second look, especially how it began somewhat ‘pop,’ before becoming a dark, enveloping series.
What do you all think?
Thank you,

This would have been my photo, I, your host, back in the 1980's when I was the Executive Chef at a country club in the Napa Valley but for security purposes, we have scaled some of our personal info back.  However, I spent many years working in professional foodservice, having begun as a young boy working for my father in his restaurant over on the coast in Pismo Beach.  Foodservice is in my blood and it is something I still do actively every day in my late eighties in Washington State.

MORE TO COME FROM THE ROLLING STONES

TUESDAY, MAY 24, 2016
In 1989, the Rolling Stones released a VHS tape featuring clips from the band’s career up until this point, “25 x 5—the Continuing Adventures of the Rolling Stones,” which is reminiscent of “The Beatles Anthology” but is the best there is to offer for now.  There are many numerous things of interest to view of the ‘greatest rock-and-roll band in the world’s’ career.  However, if you seek some glimpses at Mick Taylor, you will find them hard to uncover, mostly voiceovers.  When members leave the band, it seems that the feelings are hard, as though the ‘pact with the devil’ forbids one to say ‘enough.’  Taylor bailed out following “It’s Only Rock and Roll” because he did not receive the credit he was due and when Bill Wyman left in the mid-1990s, well, they erased him from quite a few photos.  Still, it is what it is and that is why we urge you to visit Amazon.com and check it out for yourselves.
