SPRING SESSION 2016

BLOGPOST #1,997 AT THE AICP-END

Today West Virginia votes
Santa Barbara, CA, 05-10-2016 Tuesday: today, people vote in West Virginia and Nebraska, and I think the people are going to vote resoundingly for Donald Trump on the GOP side and against either of the two Democrats.  Our nation some say is the “Saudi Arabia of coal,” we have more top quality anthracite and bituminous coal here than anywhere else in the world, even in China.
Even if our country wants to convert to renewable forms of energy, why can we not mine and then sell the coal to other nations in the world such as China?  We hear that China puts a new coal-powered plant online every week and like it or not, the Chinese are not going to resort to using renewable energy when they want to boost their nation’s economic output and GDP every year.  Why can we not sell coal to them in exchange for lower prices on our imports?
Anyone who owns and operates a business understands that after regulations, taxes, and labor costs, that energy costs are right there hovering just beneath or sometimes over the cost of everything else.
Add to this the fact that the government wants us to increase the minimum wage, mostly to people undeserving of it so that means, we have to lay off 2-3 people to raise the wages for one worker.
Granted, if an employer attempts to explain the costs they have to pay which includes onerous obligations such as Obamacare on top of social security, federal, state, and local taxes, FICA, unemployment, and everything else, the listeners go nuts and accuse us of seeking to hide our ‘wealth’ so as not to contribute still more to them.
The financial meltdown of 2008 led to the rise of the Obamaism running amuck in the country now.  Not only do we have to sweat paying for all the aforementioned payouts, we also have to contend with people wanting the passage of new laws that will force we, employers, to pay for personal time off so a worker can spend time with not only an ill family member but their flipping pets, too.
That means that we have to hire someone on a temporary hire to fill the spot of the person taking family time off and we have to pay the person who is on family leave—voila, DOUBLE PAY—who pays that?—the EMPLOYER!
The more we have to pay out, the more difficult it is to remain in business as with all things considered, there is almost no way NOW that I can continue running my business beyond this November.   In effect, I am going to take a gamble on Donald Trump because SOMEONE must restore the sanity of America and he is it!
Ah, well, energy costs are unnecessarily high although at times, the government at one level or another throws us a bone by dropping the costs of say, auto or heating fuel.  However, here in California, our energy costs are high all of the time as we typically subsidize lower energy costs in cities such as San Francisco and other Bay Area locales, something PG&E did a good job of covering up until recently.
Why should we pay more here in Central California so the losers in the Bay Area can live comfortably?  I live in Santa Barbara so it is not very hot or cold here ever but when I drive over the mountains and into Bakersfield in the summertime, the people here live in a blazing pizza oven of sorts and deserve not to go bankrupt cooling their homes.
I have seen what it costs to cool a home in Bakersfield as well as a business and it is astronomically higher than anywhere else in the nation is.  Yet, the Golden State is leaving nuclear power behind, slashing our use of gas and coal, and wants us to heat and cool not only our businesses and homes with wind power, solar energy, and wave-generated power.
What makes us crazy is that Kern County—home of the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day—still produces massive amounts of oil but the refineries with which, to make it usable in automobiles, trucks, and elsewhere have shut down one-by-one.  Let me tell you why:
Sacramento places massive regulations atop everything we do in this state on top of what the federal government already does.  Like the poor people living in West Virginia and throughout the region, governmental regulations and deliberate governmental thuggery have closed down approximately two-thirds of the coalmines.
Therefore, when Hillary Clinton informs her listeners that she is ‘going to shut down the coalmines and to put the mines and the miners out of business,’ she is not joking—she intends to do this.  That is why she has had to walk back her overheard comments by telling the struggling miners she plans to spend $40 million or more to help retrain them; the question is, “retrain them for what?”—making better methamphetamine?
Moreover, you see, back in 2008 when Senator Barack Obama was running for the presidency, he crowed about all of the ‘shovel-ready jobs’ he was going initiate as well as the retraining efforts to put all of the people he directly harmed and drove out of their jobs so they could return to some sort of gainful employment.
Sadly, whenever a liberal or a RINO says they are going ‘to help us,’ we need to run as far away from them as we can.  Let us not forget what President Ronald Reagan said about the ten scariest words (or whatever number they were), “I’m here from the government and am here to help.”  I am sorry; the government seldom helps and almost ALWAYS hurts the people.
Anyone says something such as that and we need to run as far away from the speaker(s) as possible.  We are Americans and we showed the world how to become great by following a philosophy that allowed everyone to reach his or her potential.  If government empowers the people, the people become the economic engine that makes the nation as great as once it was, something we need now more so than ever.
In closing we must save our country and the only way in which, to do it is to elect the right people, people who will dispense with excessive government regulations and will allow people to go out and carve their own way forward in life.  I hope the people of West Virginia vote for the best person on the ballot, and that is Donald Trump.
See you tomorrow.

It was still somewhat nice and the area was still the original "restaurant row" of the city.  Now, I am 70 years old and work over in Santa Barbara, CA, as a food and beverage director for a fine-dining country club.

MORE TO COME FROM THE ROLLING STONES

TUESDAY, MAY 10, 2016
In 1982, the Rolling Stones released another live album, “Still Life,” featuring tunes captured on the recent tour.  At this time, the band was a strong, functioning quintet (along with their side musicians) with Ronnie Wood fully integrated into the band.  The Stones delivered the musical goods and if you see the film of the same performances, “Let’s Spend the Night Together” (on Thursday), then you will know how good the Rolling Stones were and still are because they always do their best to live up to and exceed their reputation as a live act.  The funny thing is, at this time, people were saying the Stones were on their way out, something we know is absolutely NOT true.  Please, seek this CD out by visiting Amazon.com by using the link we provide you here, you will be glad you did.
