SPRING SESSION 2016

BLOGPOST #1,948 AT THE AICP-END

Welcome to Day Number Two of Holy Week
Kula, HI, 03-22-2016 Tuesday: Aloha, welcome folks to the Tuesday edition of the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day.  I want you to know that I enjoy coming in and shooting the breeze with the readership as it gives me a chance to exit the kitchen for a week and leave my second-in-command in charge, overseeing the kitchen.
This week, we have a weeklong celebration Catholics know as ‘Holy Week,’ which began yesterday and runs until the end of the week.  We experience sadness over the crucifixion and celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The fact that my family and I are Roman Catholics makes me feel good that this is the week in which, I get to do my stint because beginning on Thursday we enter Holy Week in full beginning with Holy Thursday and concluding with the resurrection of the Lord on Easter Sunday.  I hope you will join me throughout the week.
Holy Thursday
Holy Thursday is the day we commemorate the Last Supper, the last time Jesus met with his Disciples around the table and taught them how to celebrate the event in what would become the Daily Mass.  He also announced that one among them would betray Him and explained how that individual—Judas—would do it.
I cannot imagine how He must have felt because knowing that one is about to undergo one of the most brutal and difficult times of one’s life is understandable that one would wish for a different outcome.  Yet, that is what the Lord did for us.
You see, He acknowledged that He would soon meet His end at the hands of the disbelievers and would give His life so that we might have eternal life with His Father—the Lord our God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus for all eternity.
Holy Thursday is a VERY important day for Roman Catholics
Holy Thursday is a major day in the Church and across the diocese, every priest who can attend the special mass does so, so we can celebrate and relive the Last Supper.
The following day, Good Friday, is the solemnest day in the liturgical calendar as that is the day following the arrest of Jesus and after Judas threw Him (using modern parlance) ‘under the bus’ for his thirty pieces of silver.
The thugs who worked for the high priest, Annas, sought Him out and took Him prisoner.  Once within the confines of the temple, Annas asked Jesus if ‘He was the Son of God’ and when he said that He was, Annas demanded Him to repudiate such a blasphemous statement as the bulk of the priesthood had great disdain for Jesus.
Annas sought the aid of Roman Governor Pontius Pilate
Annas then sought to enlist the aid of the Roman governor of Judea, Pontius Pilate, a man who held the power of life and death over all citizens of the province.  Pilate spent time questioning Jesus and found nothing dangerous about his beliefs, thinking Him merely a deranged individual.
He said to the Jewish priests that perhaps, they should deal with Jesus ‘according to their own laws’ but to no avail.  The high priests implored Pilate to condemn Jesus, a person whom they saw as a direct threat to their power—sort of like and do not get me wrong how the GOP leadership views Donald Trump—because they could not execute Him and needed an outsider to do their dirty work.
Pilate sent Jesus to King Herod
Pilate undeterred sent Jesus to King Herod for him to interview and to determine what should be done with the person the Jewish priests so feared and once Herod took his crack, he sent Jesus back to Pilate for him to dispense whatever justice the Roman governor saw fit.
Pilate again asked the priests—‘you really want me to condemn this man who has done nothing wrong’—and they demanded loudly and with much belligerence, that Pilate must condemn Jesus.  Pilate washed his hands of Jesus, gave the public the shot to release either Jesus or a mass murderer Barabbas as that was their wont on their holiest of holidays, and the howls and the shouts to free Barabbas condemned Jesus to the cross.
From there, we know what happens, the Romans charged with His execution force Jesus to carry his cross up to Golgotha—the hill of the skull—where the soldiers carry out their crucifixions of condemned criminals.
Holy Saturday
The next day, Holy Saturday, we celebrate minimally as it is the day the Lord rested within the tomb and descended into the pits of Hell.
Church services are somewhat limited as the next day—Easter Sunday—is the day our Lord and Savior arose from the dead in fulfillment of the Scriptures.
Since this week is a very Holy time for all Catholics and for me—I will be at church as much as possible going to my parish, Christ the King in Kahului, Maui, so on Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday, we are going to have limited service here at the blog.
We will discuss the elections taking place today tomorrow as well as at our secondary blog, too.  We have to cover whatever happens tomorrow as Ted Cruz attempts to beat Donald Trump, Trump hopes to knock out both Senator Cruz and Governor John Kasich, and Bernie seeks to find new life in his struggle against Hillary Clinton.
We will do a good job of it, too.
This is what we are going to do beginning Thursday through Monday
On Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, we will most likely either share Beverly Carrick paintings on one or two days while on the other two, we probably will share some of the music we have promoted in the past.
I feel bad about not giving the readership the full blog offerings we normally do but as a devout Roman Catholic, these days are extremely important and Stinkbug has said it is ‘fine’ to do a limited selection of posts.
I believe, too, that when El Chilote arrives next week, he will do a light day on Monday and then get back in the groove as we gear up for the remaining primaries and caucuses.
I hope you will extend us this courtesy to take things slow and to celebrate the most important day in all of Christendom, Easter Sunday.
Please do not misunderstand what I said about ‘Trump’
I also hope that you did not take what I said about Donald Trump as some sort of ‘blasphemy,’ as I am not saying Donald Trump IS ‘Jesus.’  What’s more, I once loved Trump but now view him with negativity over his incessant insulting of Ted Cruz.
What I am saying is, is that it is very shocking how the GOP mainstream leadership works much harder to derail and to destroy Donald Trump than they ever do the Democrats.
Granted, here in Hawaii, we are almost all liberal in one way or another, even we Republicans; however, we need someone to get into Washington DC who plans to shake up the ‘good old boy-and-girl network that has left our nation trashed.  Trump and Senator Cruz might be the only ones capable of pulling it off and our party leadership now plans to take out Donald Trump in less than 100 days and stick us with some boob such as Governor Kasich or resurrect Jeb or Marco Rubio or worse, give us Mitt Romney, to take his place.  Yikes!
I will see you all tomorrow, my friends, God bless you all, lots of love, and I hope the Aloha Spirit touches every single one of you.  See you tomorrow, bye.
Aloha!

MORE TO COME FROM THE ROLLING STONES

TUESDAY, MARCH 22, 2016
The second album by the Rolling Stones, “12 x 5” (1964) hit record store shelves with more of the same music as the group performed on their first album.  This album showed the band continuing to grow as musicians and as performers.  They played mostly other musician’s songs but saw a budding songwriting partnership between Jagger and Richard who wrote under the pseudonym Nanker-Phelge so as not to discredit themselves if their songs did not work.  We love this CD as it shows the band in the kinetic rhythm-and-blues mode intermingled with rock classics, which delighted fans across the Western world.  We hope you will use our link to redirect your browser to Amazon.com where you can pick the CD up in the format, the condition, and the price that is right for you—you will love it.
