WINTER SESSION 2015-16

BLOGPOST #1,909 AT THE AICP-END

Thank God, Bernie is in the RACE
Honolulu, HI, 02-12-2016 Friday: Last night, the Democrats held yet another debate, this one in Wisconsin on CNN while the Republicans hold one tomorrow night somewhere else.  Listening to Bernie stirs the soul as the good senator continues bringing new voters into play, something akin to what Barack Obama did back in 2008 and again in 2012.
One thing I know for sure is that the mainstream Democrat political machine now is rolling out all the stops by lauding Mrs. Clinton and giving her endorsements such as with what we saw yesterday with the Congressional Black Caucus.
However, I doubt that anyone but Bernie can truly do better for them than the old washed up figure from the past, one most people say they distrust so why would anyone in his or her right mind vote for someone who is a—for lack of a better term—‘crook.’
I could never vote for Hillary, it would be a vote for the status quo.
Living in Hawaii, I meet people from all over the country
No matter what part of the country you come from—and believe me, living here in Hawaii, I meet people from ALL parts of the country all of the time who come here on vacation—people are angry.
You can see them change if the subject of ‘politics’ arises and the absolute dejection they feel at the GOP and even some among the Democrats lying to them or failing to deliver on their promises, one becomes understanding and empathetic.
What’s more, people are tired of hearing their candidates and those running for reelection promising they will ‘do this or that’ and then fail to deliver on those promises.  I am angry, I want a more progressive bent to the nation and I believe that ONLY Bernie Sanders can deliver it whereas Hillary, well, it will be more of the same as I suggested up top.
After telling Lalo he had to watch the kitchen, I sat down in front of the TV with some manapuas, POG with a shot or two of vodka to watch the Sixth Democrat debate
I told my hubby, Lalo, last night that he had to do my share of the kitchen duties so I could plant myself in front of the television to watch the Democrat debate.
I had some fresh hot steamed manapuas full of char siu pork with my POG spiked with vodka and my laptop in front of me so I could watch and comment on the debate as it unfolded at 4:00 P.M. Hawaiian time.  With my hunger and thirst sated, I could relax and concentrate on what was going to happen.
First, however, I watched Anderson Cooper discuss the rise of Bernie Sanders with several big black American ‘hitters,’ Van Jones, Donna Brazile, and another fellow and all of them at least to me seemed favorable to Senator Sanders.  The question being, why does Hillary deserve the black vote and will they give it to her?
To me, the answer sounded as though they felt that Bernie is more in tune with fulfilling the promises of Barack Obama and furthering his accomplishments into the next four years and possibly beyond.  Wow, if Bernie could hit it out of the ballpark, there is no telling how far he can go—I wish I had put money on him in Las Vegas.
There is no doubt that Senator Sanders is emotional about the issues the nation faces
Bernie began the night with his same message, about making things right for the American people.  He is angry that too many Americans languish in prison, more than any other nation anywhere in the world and at an agonizing cost to keep them there.  Hillary, on the other hand, always sounds as though she is attempting to usurp his platform.
We know from his words that he is traumatized by the numbers of Americans in prison, that we have far more of them there than any other nation in the world INCLUDING China.  He also shared the fact that 1-in-4 African American babies will end up in prison, and that others will suffer because one or both parents will be serving time in local jails, state prisons, and even in the federal system and that, this horrendous situation must stop.
It seemed to me that the emotion Senator Sanders interjected into this situation was genuine and the ‘passion’ Hillary displayed seemed more the drummed up sentiment that this ‘Mandarin lady’ always seems to have when on public exhibition.
Senator Sanders hammered Hillary over her ‘relationship’ with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger
When the moderators—Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff, who did a great job by the way—moved the debate over into foreign affairs and keeping the nation ‘safe’ from all threats, we saw the difference between the two loom large over the hall.
Moreover, we saw the heart Senator Sanders interjected into the exchanges and his views towards the future while Hillary continued to repeat the same mistakes that Jeb Bush always does and those mistakes is to talk about the accomplishments of the past.
At one point, Bernie pointed out that in her words in New Hampshire and in her book, she bragged up the relationship and the accomplishments of Henry Kissinger, a dirty name to many liberals such as myself who still remember the bastard.  There was a great deal of celebration and applause over this monumental jab at the former secretary of state who also took some shots on the ‘regime change’ in Libya.
Hillary feigned ‘warmth’ but to most observers, it is not genuine
In my view, Hillary staggered on numerous occasions although it is clear she had game and when pressed, we could see the detachment and the lack of warmth that so many people accuse of her showing.
She made sure she always mentioned ‘Barack Obama’ and the ‘closeness of their relationship’ and how she was there during all of his big moments such as taking down Osama bin Laden.  She flubs, however, when she brags up the Iranian ‘deal,’ the one in which, they now get nukes while we get the shaft such as celebrating the capture of our U.S. Navy sailors.  This is certainly nothing of which, to brag, we do not think regime change is the way the United States should go, precisely what Senator Sanders said on several occasions.
Which leader, foreign and domestic, would be an inspiration for your presidency?
Moments before the closing statements, the moderators asked both candidates as to which foreign and domestic leader they would use as inspiration when they became president.  Senator Sanders went first and he said ‘Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Winston Churchill.’
He said that ‘while he did not agree with the politics of Churchill, he was an amazing wartime leader and won a major victory over the Nazis.’
Hillary also said that FDR was someone whom she would use as inspiration and then mentioned that Nelson Mandela would be her foreign leader choice.  She did not elaborate and my assumption is that Mandela is black and that she thinks the name has some sort of sway with African Americans, something I believe is very erroneous.
Ah, well, what do I know, I am a chef in Hawaii.
One has to admit that Bernie is indeed a ‘scrapper’
I think Bernie continues appearing the winner, the man is feisty, he is a scrapper, and I appreciate his debating abilities.  He has worked very hard to keep everything above board and up top while proxies on the side of Mrs. Clinton continue throwing low blows, cheap shots, and hardballs hoping to knock the man out—shame on them.
We have too many problems going on around the world including the embarrassment the Iranians delivered us yesterday when all across their crappy country; they reenacted the seizure of our two Navy patrol boats and the holding of the American sailors at gunpoint.  Hillary Clinton is partly responsible for what we see happening around the world so why would any of us want to vote for her when we can elect someone who will remove from parts of the world in which, we do not belong.
It is shameful and I hope the people of Nevada and South Carolina throw their support behind Senator Sanders when those states begin voting next.  I think if Bernie does well there, he can ride a tidal wave into the White House on November 08, 2016.
Have a great day, aloha, and I will see you all tomorrow.  Bye.
Thanks, my friends!

  1. Cherry does her utmost best to discuss the salient parts of last night’s Democrat debate, one of the best for them as I have seen with both remaining restrained until the final 20-25 minutes. Hillary whines about being the first ‘female’ president and accuses Bernie of trying to stop that. However, he is the first Jewish socialist aged president so the man trumps her 3:1. I hope Hillary loses the nomination and then maybe the Clintons will go home just as I hope Jeb bringing his brother, mother and father into the campaign will hasten his exit. Let me know what you think, folks! Posted by Chef Charles Smithenstein of the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day, posted @ 10:33 A.M. PST
