The Republicans should give President Obama his Supreme Court Nominee; I mean, what do they have to Fear? The Democrats have never STOPPED any GOP Nominees, merely looked into their Backgrounds

WINTER SESSION 2015-16

BLOGPOST #1,915 AT THE AICP-END

President Obama is on the cusp of changing the United States for good
Kihei, HI, 02-18-2016 Thursday: The more I pay attention to the issue of replacing Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court, the more I believe that President Obama is going to achieve success in getting the sort of jurist he wants there to continue his works for the next half-century.
In fact, the determination NOT to give anyone President Obama sends to the Senate for confirmation a fair hearing seems to have fallen by the wayside as namby-pamby Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, now seems ‘open.’   That is right; he seems ‘open’ at least to having someone appear before the body of lawmakers for a full vote.
I think Mitch fears the loss of his position, one he long sought after and was able to snatch from the hands of Democrat and then-leader, Harry Reid.  My, it truly sucks for those who engage in dirty politics as when their position comes online, they begin hemming and hawing their best so they can clutch onto whatever shards of respect they think they have.
I am not sure what the Republicans have to fear
I am not sure what the Republicans seem to think they fear—I have not seen Justices Sonia Sotomayor or Elena Kagan cause a single problem on the court or submit crackpot opinions on any of the matters that come before the high court.
Potential replacements I mentioned the other day all seem capable and inclined to be moderate should the McConnell-led Senate actually give them the opportunity for an up-or-down vote.  He seems to be wavering now—speaking of McConnell—as are some of the other strident voices on the panel that will sit and interview the nominees the president sends to them.
I suspect they have seen the light and are ready to fulfill the duties set forth in the Constitution of the United States.
We Democrats have never fought the GOP on Supreme Court nominees
The thing that disturbs many of my friends here in the islands and on the mainland, as well as me, is the fact that the GOP forgets that the Democrats have never done this to ANY of the nominees past Republican presidents have sent to the Senate for confirmation.
Yes, there have been numerous battles during the confirmation such as the gauntlet the Democrats put the sexual harasser Clarence Thomas through because—let’s face it—character is one of the top requirements for ANYONE hoping to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court.
He had to answer the accusations set forth by Anita Hill, someone that Thomas victimized over a long time and for which, there was ample proof.  Yes, he made it onto the court but the Judiciary Committee had to ascertain as to whether or not the man’s past immorality would preclude him from being a Supreme Court justice so the charges against Thomas warranted the deep penetration into his personal and professional background.
George W. Bush got his two Supreme Court nominees onto the court
As I recall, George W. Bush got both John Roberts and Samuel J. Alito onto the high court and did so without either one of them suffering any long-lasting damage during the confirmation hearings—it is not as if we water-boarded the pair.
The reason WHY it appears brutal at times to onlookers is that Supreme Court justices—unlike presidents, senators, and congressional representatives—have a LIFE term in office.
Impeaching a lunatic is a difficult thing to do because of all the requirements set forth in the Constitution so it is important that every potential lifelong appointee receive some deep scrutiny, even if it seems overwhelmingly harsh.
Yes, I felt bad for the wife of Justice Alito who during his time before the committee ended up breaking down in tears and in public.  It is what it was Mrs. Alito, but your husband—just as mine would should be a nominee seeking a seat on the Supreme Court—must undergo this atrocious confirmation battle.
What’s more, Chono would pass the scrutiny and get a seat!
I think the belligerence of the GOP is going to cost them BIG
I suspect that as the election progresses and the more belligerent the Republicans in House and Senate—as well as the candidates for president!—become, the more the voters will begin turning on them.
They will especially go after the two remaining senators in the contest—Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio—especially the former as he has a strong background arguing cases before the nation’s high court while serving  as solicitor-general in Texas.
The more obstructionist the duo seem, the better for us Democrats because we can use their intransigence, turn it around, and bash them over the head as though it were a club the two losers themselves created.
I look forward to watching them destroy one another and then watching Trump destroying whichever one of them survives the first fight.  We cannot permit ANY Republicans to win the White House because if they do and Mr. Obama does not have his preferred justice on the court, ALL of it will vanish in a flash of light.
California’s Kamala Harris says she won’t seek a seat on the Supreme Court—how about someone from Hawaii?
I would like to think that perhaps someone here in Hawaii would make a great justice on the Supreme Court.  I saw the other day that Kamala Harris, the attorney-general of California, announced that she is not interested in the post.
I understand from my California Democrat colleagues that she plans to fill the seat of longtime Golden State Senator Barbara Boxer.  She seems to be young, dynamic, very exciting, accomplished, and most likely would be a strong voice for liberalism within the U.S. Senate.
I wholeheartedly agree with her decision to serve the nation in a different way.
We need to donate MORE money to the Democrats at ALL levels
What we need to do is to donate as much money as we can to all Democrat campaigns at all levels so we can continue reclaiming both the House and Senate while maintaining control of the White House and putting a permanent stamp onto the judiciary at all levels.
This is our goal, our cause, perpetuating liberalism and Democrat politics at all levels of the nation’s governmental structures, from national to state, to local, to a place NEAR YOU.  We want to make it so every accomplishment Barack Obama has created lasts for decades, if not centuries to come.
Furthermore, we want to see him enshrined on the National Mall one day, his likeness set in marble and a crypt for the entire family awaiting them seeing as how he was the first president to break the color barrier.  It took forty-four shots before someone finally did it and the best thing is, he is one of OURS.
Why would Hillary bark like a dog?
I have to admit I am somewhat chagrined that Hillary Clinton keeps embarrassing herself on the campaign trail, you know, out there barking like a flipping dog—“Arf, arf, arf.”  As someone who owns two Scotties , I am accustomed to dogs barking all the time, but when I hear it from someone seeking votes to win the White House, well, I have to ask, “What the heck is wrong with Hillary?”
We have talk radio on in the kitchens just to listen to what some of the hosts say and I must say, I hear Hillary barking like a dog almost all the time along with the horrible cackle she has that passes for a ‘laugh.’
Perhaps it is good she is blowing it because I am beginning to think that hubby Bill is one sick lolo, hearing what I have heard from a former Miss Arkansas who has a tell-all book coming out soon.  If you do not know what I am talking about, look for it online.
Well, I have run out of time, we will pick it up tomorrow so I will see all of you then.  Have a wonderful day and boy, is it glorious here on Maui.  Aloha. A hui hou kakou!
Thank you!

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2016
Steve Winwood released his next NEW album in 2003, “About Time,” an album featuring a brand-new feel to it, Latin-inspired, lots of percussion just as it was during the heyday of Traffic when Rebop Kwaku Baah.  Some critics like it and some panned it and while the vocalist’s voice is a bit rough, Winwood still has it in the same way former band mate, Dave Mason still has ‘it’ albeit a bit rough, too.  Please, seek out this 2-CD set, which features a studio disc and a live disc with some old favorites and a rendition of “Voodoo Chile,” the old Jimi Hendrix classic.  Please, use our link to go to Amazon.com so you can get it in the format, the condition, and the price that is right for you—you will be glad you did.

  1. Many people dismiss chefs as being drunkards, perverts, and losers but that is not the case and every single damned day here at the blog, we deliver proof of that through our writings. Chef Itzi—like Chef Cheryl—lives in Hawaii but is as up-to-date as anyone else living in the country over the problems we face as a nation and a people. I urge everyone to read her take on who should and who should not get a chance to get on the court and why he or she needs to do it as soon as they possibly can. President Obama has every right to expect someone to be on the court ASAP and Chef Cheryl made an amazing suggestion. She said, ‘how about a compromise candidate such as former President Jimmy Carter?’ After all, he won’t be on the court for more than 4-5 years and will be a reliable liberal vote. He will be around long enough that this election cycle and perhaps the next will pass before we have to worry about HIS replacement. I will leave this question open to the readership—what do YOU think? / Posted by Chef Olaf Bologolo of the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day, posted @ 11:21 A.M. PST
