President Obama has Numerous Excellent Judicial Choices he can send to Mitch McConnell and the Senate; the Question is, will the Senate Majority Leader do his utmost to thwart the wishes of the American People?

WINTER SESSION 2015-16

BLOGPOST #1,913 AT THE AICP-END

Welcome to another day in paradise
Kihei, HI, 02-16-2016 Tuesday: Aloha, welcome, how is everyone doing this fine day?  We have been enjoying magnificent weather here in the islands, a beautiful 80s or so degrees every day.  Kihei is one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Creation, all one has to do is to come to Maui, drive down the Kihei Road, sit on the beach with some umbrella drinks and watch the sun head out to sea.  Imagine living here all one’s life and being able to commune with the place where Heaven and Earth meet every single day, seven days a week.
Kihei is one of the most placid areas on the entire island of Maui with the north shore being the place for wind-and-board-surfing while down here, on the opposite end of the island, people come here to relax.  They also board charter boats at the dock up the road so they can go scuba diving at Molokini, one of the most beautiful places on the entire Earth.  The tropical fish one encounters there are absolutely phenomenal, I love going there myself whenever I am not working but seldom does that happen.
It is sad Justice Antonin Scalia has passed away but life moves on, does it not?
Justice Antonin Scalia passed away on the weekend and already the fight to replace him began getting dirty yesterday and even on Sunday night.  President Obama has the right to expect to send a nominee to the Senate for them to ‘advise and to give consent’ on whomever the nominee is.
We know they typically come from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and there are several on that bench who would make outstanding Supreme Court justices if what I hear from local politicians is true.
We have heard about 48-year-old Indian-American Judge Sri Srinivasan, someone President Obama put on that court as well as another judge on the same court, 52-year-old Patricia Millett.
We have also heard that Kamala Harris, the attorney-general for the state of California could also be on the short list as could be Jeh Johnson who heads the Department of Homeland Security.  All of these people have experience and should receive an up-or-down confirmation vote.
There are other nominees should those not make it through the process
Besides those three aforementioned possibilities in the preceding block, President Obama has several other potential nominees he could send to the Senate to seek confirmation.
The jurists of whom I speak are such as 50-year-old Jacqueline Nguyen, an Asian-American who sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit Court, as could be Minnesota Democrat Senator Amy Klobuchar.  She is someone whom it might be difficult for the Senate to block seeing as how she is one of them.
Another senator, Sheldon Whitehouse, 60-year-old Democrat from another Northeastern state is yet another person already sitting in the Senate whom it might be difficult to block if the Democrats make a concerted push.
Whatever happens, we must find a way to force through another justice onto the Supreme Court as in that way and that way ONLY, the Obama legacy is going to continue indefinitely into the future, perhaps for 2-3 generations or even longer.
If President Obama does not get his nominee onto the Supreme Court and a Democrat wins, Obama could be the NEXT nominee
Someone else we sometimes discuss that titillates many of us is the idea of either Bernie Sanders or if the worst happens, Hillary Clinton, that either one of them would put Barack Obama onto the high court of the land.  That would be a Democrat’s dream-come-true as if he were to replace Justice Ruth Vader Ginsburg, can you imagine the sort of high court the nation would have?
We would have one that resembles the American people more so than at any other time and that would forever keep the Republicans in the minority once we begin voting them out in ever-increasing numbers.   Politics is a no-holds barred sort of competition and we know the Republicans would sock it to us sans any sort of Vaseline until we begged them to stop if they would.
We need to separate the RINOS from the elephant herd
Well, here is the GOOD thing, the Republicans cannot do that to us and I think our skillful politicians can find ways to split the herd of elephants apart from the RINOS and then latch onto the latter and twist their arms by giving them tidbits for their troubles.
That is right, that is my suggestion, let’s split the Republicans apart while doing everything in our ability to prevent one of them from winning the White House.  If we can do that, President Obama will have the legacy he so deserves to have for all time, perhaps get his face up there on Mt. Rushmore alongside other famous presidents including 2-3 slave owners—what a smack in the chops that would be.
The time is now if we are going to make a stand and we need to have EVERYONE aboard with us so we can win the day.  Are YOU with us?
There are other potential nominees for the high court besides the one I already mentioned
If we look at other possible Supreme Court nominees, we have Cory Booker, yet another senator out of a Northeastern state that at the age 46 would make a long-lived justice on the court.
We also hear that 48-year-old Paul Watford of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit Court—an African-American judge—whom some say would be the president’s ideal first choice could be the first to head to the Hill.
We hear that Jane Kelly, a jurist who sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit is yet another possible nominee as is moderate chief judge of the D. C. Circuit Court, 63-year-old Merrick Garland, someone who could be a compromise candidate.
President Obama has the right to put his choice onto the high court and without numerous challenges
Whatever happens, it is fully the prerogative of President Obama to send nominee after nominee to the Senate and then duke it out with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.  “Tell me why NONE of my choices are acceptable to you, you big phony?”  That is what the president could tell that vacillating boob.  After all, he famously said that his goal was to make sure the president did not win another term; look how well that went for the GOP.
I do my best to keep up-to-date with the national news
I do not pretend to know more than I do because here in the islands, politics is ‘more local’ than it is national.  Sure, we watch the national news on the network shows just as we watch it online and on satellite TV.
I do my best to remain knowledgeable of the events shaping the nation and my hope is that President Obama has the ability to forever stamp his imprint on the nation by putting at least one and possibly two more justices onto the Supreme Court of the United States should Ruth Vader Ginsburg decide to retire.  In this way and this way only, can we make the nation available to all of its citizens and not just for a few who control vast amounts of wealth, wealth they have stolen from the people?
Let me know what you think.  Aloha, I will see you tomorrow.
Thank you!

  1. Chef Itzi much the same way as Chef Cheryl does an admirable job viewing national politics from afar and then commenting on them here at the blog. I have been to Hawaii several times on vacation and I know the people there tend to focus on news closer to home, which is fine, that is how it should be. However, the three authors from the islands—the aforementioned two women up above plus Lilah—deserve our congratulations. We have an interesting post here today with a tropical flavor and invite everyone to join us as we always do. Thank you for your support. / Posted by Chef Pedro Munoz of the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day.
