Election Results in: Donald Trump won South Carolina and Hillary Clinton barely won in Nevada, which is WHY I do not trust Results from Caucus States, ONLY Primary States

WINTER SESSION 2015-16

BLOGPOST #1,918 AT THE AICP-END

I think we expected the election results we saw yesterday in South Carolina and Nevada
Kihei, HI, 02-21-2016 Sunday: Well, there you go, my final day of the week and yesterday, wow, we had the Democrat Nevada caucus and the GOP South Carolina primary and boy, the results were somewhat amazing and at the same time, expected to a degree.
Poor Jeb Bush, he threw in the towel and suspended his campaign after coming in a disappointing, distant fourth.  Donald Trump pulled in 33.1% of the vote, Marco Rubio, 22.3%, Ted Cruz, 21.7%, Jeb 8.1%, John Kasich 8.0, and poor Dr. Carson at the back of the pack at 6.8%.
Jeb gave his speech, bade his supporters and fans ‘farewell,’ but did not throw his support behind anyone else.
At the time I commenced writing this post, it was about 4:00 P.M. Hawaiian time so it is possible the numbers could change a bit but I doubt it, I think they will remain more or less the same, which seems to be the way it goes when the pundits begin calling the elections/caucuses early in the process.
Somehow, that does not seem ‘right’—whatever happened to getting ALL of the votes in before calling a winner?
Trump clobbered the opposition
I think we all expected that Donald Trump was going to come in BIG and the big guy came in BIG.
What more can one say, Trump clobbered his competitors and left them in his dust as he heads to Nevada for the GOP vote there next week.  Meanwhile, in the aforementioned Silver State, Hillary Clinton managed to pull off a win coming in with 52.5% of the Democrat voters while our pick, Bernie Sanders, came in 47.4%.
I think that Sanders did quite well because the caucus states SEEM to be somewhat different in their vote tallying than are primary states.
We heard about coin tosses deciding different caucus results, which to me is not the way anyone should ever want to choose their nominees.
I think Bernie will win in Democrat primaries and will win the nomination.
Trump will focus his ire on the new second place winner, Marco Rubio
In watching the election results roll in, what I do know is that Marco Rubio—who, does it seem this way to you acts as though EVERY second-or-third place showing he WON the entire race?—is going to become Donald Trump’s punching bag.
In the same way that Trump seems to have destroyed the dreams and aspirations of Governor Bush, so has he pummeled the living crud out of Senator Cruz.  Now, ‘pretty boy’ Rubio is going to be at the receiving end of every verbal shotgun blast coming from Trump and his lackeys.
I fear the ‘one-trick Cuban pony; is going to wilt, collapse, and go down for the count.  I hate to say this but I relish this prospect in some ways and in others hope to see him with the GOP nomination because Hillary of Bernie will tear him asunder.
I thought Bernie would pull closer to Hillary than he did; I do not trust caucus states
I am not sure what happened in Nevada, however, I thought Bernie was going to pull closer to Hillary than he did but as I say, I think there are many shenanigans in caucus states.
What happens in these states sort of makes me think what Menehunes—the little people, here in Hawaii—do whenever things seem to go off the expected track and a different result materializes in its place.
Suddenly, what we thought was going to happen does not happen because there are unseen hands in the mix.
I dismiss what happened in Nevada last night because I believe the REAL test will occur in South Carolina when the Democrats hold their primary there.  That is a race I will be observing very closely, my friends.
Whom would Donald Trump choose for a running mate?
Chono and I were talking about whom Donald Trump might ultimately pick to be his vice presidential choice should he actually run the table as he claimed he would if he won South Carolina.
That is a unique question, I think whoever received that bid would be as powerless and as lackluster as was poor old Dan Quayle who served under George H.W. Bush.
Although I was much younger at the time, I recall how people criticized Daddy Bush for picking someone he then ignored the best he could.  Instead of either allowing Quayle to do more and then help him in doing it, the elder Bush mistreated the poor guy and many believe it helped cost him his reelection bid.
That was good for us Democrats because Bill Clinton won the White House.
Would he pick Sarah Palin?
Whom would Trump pick to be his running mate?  We know the whack-job from Alaska, failed Governor Sarah Palin, came out for the billionaire not long ago, and endorsed him.
Then, after Saturday Night Live made her look like a nut—AGAIN!—when Tina Fey portrayed her once more about a month ago, Palin disappeared.  The actor who plays Trump on SNL acted as though Palin was a nut, which many of us out here in reality land believe to be true.
She did after all cost John McCain his shot at winning the White House in 2008, which was good for Barack Obama.  Over the next four years, our party worked very hard to destroy Governor Palin so we would not have to face in 2012.  It worked.
Alternatively, has the Donald made some sort of ‘deal’ with either Dr. Carson or Governor Kasich?
I think that perhaps Donald Trump has made a deal with either Dr. Ben Carson or even Governor Kasich that if they remain in the race (and who knows—maybe he funds their campaigns?), one of them will be his running mate.
In keeping them in the race, they prevent either Cruz or Rubio to win bigger and therefore displace the big dog.  This theory makes much sense to me because we know there is NO way Trump would give Jeb a shot because the two have done their best to tear one another apart.
Trump has especially trashed Jeb to the point that even mama, Barbara, and brother, George W., have been able to pull his irons out of the fire.  If I were Jeb, I would go home and quickly run for Marco Rubio’s Senate seat.
I predict it will be Donald Trump vs. Bernie Sanders in the general—you heard it here first
I hope in the end, everything makes sense and we learn all of the deals and sub-deals of this election cycle.
I hope Trump manages to destroy all of the Republicans so we can destroy him in the General Election.  I have this sneaking feeling that the race will be between Donald Trump representing the GOP and Bernie Sanders will represent the Democrats.
I think socialism and the good of the American people will beat BIG MONEY politicians with wealthy donors.  As long as the regular folks continue sending their small money donations to Senator Sanders, he will still be in the race when Hillary falls out and then will defeat the Donald in the general.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2016
Jim Capaldi released his final album, “Poor Boy Blue,” (2004), an album that came out shortly after his death from stomach cancer.  There are 12 awesome tunes contained here on this CD that span the various musical styles that he performed over the course of his career.  There is music reminiscent of Traffic to music from his home in Brazil, emblematic of his love of the Latin rhythms predominating South America.  Capaldi never quite got the stardom that Steve Winwood and Dave Mason had but he was a great musician and performer in his own right.  Please, use our link to redirect your browser to Amazon.com so you can check it out in the format, the condition, and the price that is right for YOU.

  1. Chef Itzi goes out with a bang while tomorrow, Chef Bea arrives to do her weeklong stint. I have to speak to Stinkbug about having so many Democrats in a row than a pack of Republicans. Somehow, that does not seem fair—especially to our more liberal friends. Itzi shares her thoughts on the election results we watched roll in yesterday and the tragic departure of poor Jeb from the race. I think we all knew that Jeb was going to leave the race at some point although most of us thought it would be later rather than sooner. After all, I thought that South Carolina was the “Bush family’s firewall,’ right? Well, apparently not so there is hope for some such as Dr. Carson to make up the difference, I hope he does not abandon the race anytime soon as I still have faith in him. Let me know what you think. / Posted by Chef Murph MacDougal of the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day, posted @ 02:39 P.M. PST
