BLOGPOST #1,897 AT THE AICP-END

We honor Paul Kantner today of the Jefferson Airplane
Oildale, CA, 01-31-2016 Sunday: Today, we are going to celebrate the death of Paul Kantner, the brilliant rhythm guitarist and one of the vocalists of the Jefferson Airplane and the Jefferson Starship.  He died earlier in the week at the age of 74, after suffering from several heart attacks, which lead to septic failure and organ shutdown.  If you are unaware of the artist and/or his music, you need to seek out all of the albums we have for you here today, as all of them are absolutely fabulous.  What we will do is share the first six albums of the original two lineups of the group.  We wish the Jefferson Airplane had continued on into the 1990s in the same way the Grateful Dead managed to do so but the chemistry of the musicians was much more chaotic than the members of the Dead ever were.  Here we go:
The Jefferson Airplane- “Takes Off”
We begin offering CDs today by perhaps the greatest San Francisco bands of all time, the Jefferson Airplane! The band’s first album, “Takes Off,” hit record store shelves in 1966 and was a great debut album albeit featuring the band’s original singer, Signe Toly Anderson!  Even so—without Grace Slick, everyone else was here along with their first drummer, Skip Spence, who would go on to found Moby Grape.  Great hippie, acid music to be sure, go to Amazon.com and buy this CD now—you will be glad you did.
The Jefferson Airplane- “Surrealistic Pillow”
We continue offering CDs today by the greatest San Francisco bands of all time, the Jefferson Airplane! The band’s second album, “Surrealistic Pillow,” hit record store shelves in 1967 and put the band into the mainstream with the addition of vocalist Grace Slick and drummer, Spencer Dryden.  “Somebody to Love” hit #2 on the Top 40 charts so please, go to Amazon.com and buy this CD now—you will be glad you did.
The Jefferson Airplane- “After Bathing at Baxter’s”
We continue offering CDs today by the greatest San Francisco bands of all time, the Jefferson Airplane! The band’s third album, “After Bathing at Baxter’s,” hit record store shelves in 1967 and was the band’s full-fledged entry into the realm of psychedelic music so please, go to Amazon.com and buy this CD now—you will be glad you did.
The Jefferson Airplane- “Crown of Creation”
We continue offering CDs today by the greatest San Francisco bands of all time, the Jefferson Airplane! The band’s fourth album, “Crown of Creation,” hit record store shelves in 1968 and was the band’s best work to date so please, go to Amazon.com and buy this CD now—you will be glad you did.
The Jefferson Airplane- “Bless its Pointed Little Head”
We continue offering CDs today by the greatest San Francisco bands of all time, the Jefferson Airplane! The band’s fifth album, “Bless its Pointed Little Head,” hit record store shelves in 1969 and was the band’s first live album and a damned exciting one at that so please, go to Amazon.com and buy this CD now—you will be glad you did!  We love the Airplane and this live set shows the urgency with which, the band performed and it contains all of the hits and then some.
The Jefferson Airplane- “Volunteers”
We continue offering CDs today by the greatest San Francisco bands of all time, the Jefferson Airplane! The band’s sixth album, “Volunteers,” hit record store shelves in 1969 and was the last album upon which, Marty Balin—the founder of the group!—was on.  This is an exceptional album, featuring some of the band’s best music, and one we highly recommend!  Please go to Amazon.com and pick up this monumental recording now.
The Jefferson Airplane- “Worst of the Jefferson Airplane”
We continue offering CDs today by the greatest San Francisco bands of all time, the Jefferson Airplane! The band’s seventh album, “The Worst of the Jefferson Airplane,” hit record store shelves in 1970 and was the band’s first best-of compilation!  It features all of the band’s hits plus the odd live tune or two, which makes it a great introduction for the first-time listener!  Please go to Amazon.com and pick up this monumental recording now.

  1. We celebrate the life and times of Paul Kantner, singer-guitarist-songwriter of the Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship in conjunction with his fellow band mates. The Jefferson Airplane was one of the wildest of the San Francisco acid-rock bands and this post celebrates the history of the early group and that of Mr. Kantner who died earlier in the week at age 74. / Posted by Chef Gervais Krinkelmeier of the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day, posted @ 12:35 A.M.
