CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR’S EVE WEEK EDITION 2015

WINTER SESSION 2015

BLOGPOST #1,859 AT THE AICP-END

CHRISTMAS EVE! PEACE ON EARTH, GOOD WILL TO HUMANITY!

The Debate Discussion from Saturday Night continues…
Oildale, CA, 12-24-2015 Thursday: We continue with the debate from Saturday night between the three Democrat candidates.  We closed out yesterday’s blog post with the issue of Wall Street and the ‘too-big-to-fail-banks’ the Democrats so love to hate and so love to support.  Hillary became clearly angry when the two on either side of her—Senator Bernie Sanders and Governor Martin O’Malley—because she clearly has something to fear as the old senator pointed out.  He does not have a ‘super PAC,’ he ‘does not receive money from Wall Street financiers as Hillary Clinton does.  That is why when he says something about ‘corporations’ and ‘Hillary Clinton,’ I am inclined to feel that what he says comes from a position of honesty.
We know that Senator Sanders does NOT have a Super PAC
Martha Raddatz gave Hillary a chance to get away from that topic and into the one on Obamacare but it was not necessarily a good turn.  The costs of insurance as well as out-of-pocket costs have gone up and it is becoming more and more expensive for average Americans to obtain quality insurance and quality health care.  No one wants to jump onto the fact that Obamacare has become a disaster and one the Republicans funded completely in this disaster of a budget (but that is a story for another day).  Hillary feels we can build on it and improve it and she blames the governors of various states who would not buy into the (disastrous) plan.
Hillary thinks we can ‘improve’ Obamacare—that is all she can say or risk the wrath of President Obama…
Senator Sanders favors single-payer health care, one for which, they will not have to pay for it but will have to see their taxes increase.  According to him, he wants to know ‘why of all the major industrialized nations we do not provide health care as a right to ALL citizens and why we pay more for it than any other country?’  He wants to go straight to single-payer, which he claims will help all Americans and not just a privileged few.  The older Vermonter says that in not having to pay for all of this (except in taxes), the average American will save ‘thousands of dollars a year.’  Hmmm, have we not heard that one before, too?
Everyone on the Democrat side wants to give away ‘Free’ stuff
Then, the moderator allowed some schmutz in the crowd to ask Senator Sanders HOW he plans to provide FREE college educations for all Americans.  What he said sounded sort of bad in that ‘nice dorms’ and ‘big football stadiums’ may have to go so we can afford better and better educators.  The old fellow thinks that radical changes in funding higher education will make it affordable for all because we must see it as our grandparents saw a high school degree was a half-century ago.  Governor O’Malley wants to make it simpler for students to get PELL grants and to reduce the costs of textbooks, school fees, and whatever else it takes with which, to provide free educations for all of America’s needy citizens.  This always sounds great but when we continue adding to the tax bite, at some point, that becomes as backbreaking as paying for health care and free education at the college and university level.
Free Education for all…
Hillary has the “new college compact,’ in which, she wants everyone to have ‘skin in the game.’  If you put money into prisons, then you need to put an equal amount into providing free education.  She also does not feel we need to provide FREE college educations for everyone, just the middle and lower classes.  Hillary wants to one-up Senator Sanders’ proposal by pushing the costs off to the states, which if it works as well as the Affordable Care Act has, will make college educations and the costs of one as big a disaster, too.  As others have said of earlier Democrat debates, everyone is scrambling atop the backs of their opponents to see how much ‘free stuff’ they can give away without driving up taxes.  Hillary certainly does not want to drive up the tax levels for the middle and lower classes.
…without increasing the tax burden?—REALLY?
Senator Sanders came back to his idea that the middle classes transfer their wealth to the upper one-percent of wealthy Americans through unfair taxes and other fees, costs, and rip-offs (such as Obamacare?).  I want it known that Hillary promised she would NOT raise taxes on those making $250,000 or less per year.  Governor O’Malley proclaimed that he ‘balanced budgets’ every year as the governor of Maryland but pointed out that the one entitlement we cannot continue to afford is that ‘those making over one million or more dollars per year’ to get out of their fair share.  If the rich have to see taxes rise by 45-percent, imagine how much good it will provide the struggling Americans in the middle and working classes—my observation is that when the government soaks the rich, the rich go somewhere else with their money intact.
It comes down to Race and Law Enforcement’s unfair treatment of them…
Eventually, it came down to race and law enforcement and Governor O’Malley stepped forth with things he did as mayor of Baltimore, a city at the time in 1999 (and still) had some of the worst violent crime rates of any city in America.  He claims that he changed the way the police enforced the law and reduced the use of lethal force by the Baltimore Police Department.  Of any of the three candidates on stage, O’Malley has firsthand knowledge of the problems between the people and law enforcement. He explained how he would improve the relations for all citizens in their interactions with the cops.  Senator Sanders on the other hand—when asked about the problem—made comments on how many people are in prison and that cops should not be shooting (mostly) African-Americans.  He received broad applause for this statement regarding this very important topic; however, whether it will benefit the senator in the race for the nomination or not remains to see.
We conclude with a brief discussion of the heroin and painkiller epidemic…
One of the last things they discussed was the issue of heroin, of substance abuse, and of the over-prescribing of opioid medications, something we as a nation must find a cure.  This indeed is an important problem but liberals always seem to mollify voters or to give them incorrect information as to what they will do when they come to power.  On the one hand, they do not want to imprison minorities but on the other hand, they sometimes create and enforce highly unfair laws that send minorities to prison or keep them there, something that is highly unfair.   It is indeed sad.  I guess we will continue this discussion tomorrow on Christmas Day but for now, have a glorious Christmas Eve, God bless you all, and please, pray for world peace.  Thank you.

  1. Moses continues his discussion of last Saturday night’s Democrat debate and has now reached the point where he discusses the desire of all three Democrat candidates for president desire to give away loads of free stuff. I am open to some ideas such as finding ways to help more people get a college degree while at the same time being extremely curious as to where the funds for sending students to institutions of higher learning emanate. We know the taxpayers are the ones who will bear the costs of all this liberal largesse and Hillary who pledges as Obama once did that anyone making $250,000 or less will not see their taxes rise. We all know that that was a crock of steaming crap so I say to them, I would rather see a strong GOP member in the White House than any of the three Dems. Please, join us today and let me know what you think—I welcome everyone to join us. / Posted by Chef Charles Smithenstein of the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day.
