“During the Democrat Debate, One of the BIG Issues for the Candidates was protecting Muslim Americans from abuse by the Rest of the American People---Really? No Concerns about Terrorism?”

WINTER SESSION 2015

BLOGPOST #1,857 AT THE AICP-END

Why does the DNC schedule debates on Saturday night?  Ask Debbie Wasserman-Schultz…
Oildale, CA, 12-22-2015 Tuesday: As I mentioned yesterday, the Democratic National Committee took great pains to hide the debate between the candidates on Saturday night.  Add to that the fact that many channels had college football games as well as Saturday NFL Football, the game between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Jets.  Christmas programming took up great blocks of various channels and the debate appeared as ‘to be announced.’  Ah, well, maybe Debbie Wasserman-Schultz overlooked these things, she does appear to me to be a dim bulb, how she is the chairperson of the DNC, I have no idea.
David Muir and Martha Raddatz moderated the debate…
The moderators for the debate were two long-time ABC news people, David Muir and Martha Raddatz as well as a bevy of talking head Democrat strategists sitting on the sidelines and a bunch of young folks sitting in a back room knocking out Facebook posts.   Anyhow, Hillary got to speak first, and she went through a litany of Democrat standards, blasting the Republicans for thinking of themselves and who will continue allowing people on the ‘no-fly list’ to continue buying guns.  She wants to protect and to improve Obamacare, something that is going south quickly.  At least Martin O’Malley in his opening statement went straight to the recent jihadist attack in San Bernardino, CA, and the need for the president to defend the country.  HE sounded like a statesperson, a liberal one but a statesperson, none-the-less, and one who intends on bankrupting the wealthy while funding social programs in perpetuity.
It always comes to guns and controlling them, that is how we stop terrorism…oh, really?
Senator Sanders was the third to give an opening statement and as usually, he came from the outside and attacked the top one-percent.  He is going to create an economy that works for working families and not just for those blasted billionaires.  Forever the socialist, he wants to help the working poor while propelling the nation from the evils of fossil fuels and confronts ISIS without putting us into perpetual warfare in the Middle East.  Unfortunately, Bernie had to answer for his campaign staffer delving through shared DNC data for all three campaigns but he acquitted himself well by throwing the blame onto his staffers.  He made clear he sought to work it out while Hillary sought to trash Bernie for what his staffer did and even better, he apologized to Hillary in front of the viewers.  Hillary ‘accepted’ it or so it seemed…
Governor O’Malley certainly does deserve some support…are there no wealthy Dems who will support him?
Once the make-nice concluded, Martin O’Malley jumped back in and urged people to support him at his Website.  It appears in the opening arguments that Governor O’Malley knows in his heart that going into the national security issues is the way for him to win.  Senator Sanders went back to the economic issues, how the wealthy suck by depriving the working class of their hard-earned wealth.  However, Hillary got the first question on ISIS and she said she had a plan not to contain the jihadists but one to win.  According to her, we have to share intelligence and information meaning we have to fall into bed with the internet technology companies as well as work closer with American Muslim communities instead of demonizing them as the GOP does.
Governor O’Malley knows about terrorism firsthand…
Governor O’Malley, however, was in charge of Maryland when the attacks of September 11, 2001, occurred.  He wants to protect the homeland from the lone wolves attacks, the ones that threaten our homeland and wants to act on shared information, which we gather from our allies.  The problem the Democrats have is that some see fighting terrorism in the traditional sense while others such as Bernie want to avoid unilateral action in the Middle East or elsewhere.  Senator Sanders wants to aid Muslim nations against Muslim terrorists, which sounds somewhat similar to what some of the GOP candidates have urged.
Making nice with Muslim Americans and grabbing guns is the answer to everything…
However, the next question went to the issue of guns, one of the favorite issues the Democrats love discussing.  Hillary does not believe that MORE guns is the appropriate response to terrorism, she thinks that creating much deeper and closer relations and coalitions here at home, most notably making nice with American Muslim communities.  She blasted Donald Trump over his ‘clash of civilizations,’ something she feels will only inflame the issue rather than cure it.  Martha Raddatz lamented the fact that gun stores see long lines of first-time gun buyers standing outside gun stores from one end of the country to the other.  Senator Sanders wants to increase and to strengthen background checks so we can prohibit firearms from falling into the wrong hands as well as to keep ‘military-style’ weapons from the streets.  Gun safety has ‘broad consensus,’ according to him, that most Americans want to come to terms with this problem.
Governor O’Malley took a strong stance against guns
Governor O’Malley jumped in and to wild applause blasted those on stage with him who vote for guns (Sanders) or who change their opinions as they do their makeup (Hillary), he pushes for comprehensive gun control legislation.  The governor then blasted both Hillary and Bernie Sanders over their flip-flopping on gun issues but thanks to the moderators, they shut O’Malley up and allowed Bernie to jump in and to trash him.  It became clear to my companions and me that this debate was a BIG one for both Senator Sanders and Governor O’Malley as if they fail to dislodge Hillary Clinton from her commanding lead that she will waltz all the way to the nomination.
Hillary schooled Senator Sanders on his previous gun votes
In closing for today, Hillary schooled Bernie on his previous votes for guns while criticizing the governor that he was being disingenuous on the subject of guns and her.  Quickly, moving from firearms the moderators went to Donald Trump and his proposed ban on Muslims entering the country.  She wants America to stand united against the terrorists and to stay vigilant, watch for terrorists, and not to marginalize Muslim Americans but instead make them feel welcome—she even gave credit to George W. Bush for having reached out to Muslim-Americans instead of pushing them away—wow.  She said that ISIS shows videos of Trump insulting Muslims, which helps recruit them…really?  We will pick up tomorrow.

  1. Mo does a masterful job of continuing to analyze the Democrat’s last debate from Saturday night, how Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, the DNC chairperson, has everything riding on Hillary. The problem is that if Hillary goes down because Donald Trump continues pounding the crud out of her, what will the Dems do if their number one candidate falls by the wayside. Worse, she knows that if she goes against anything Obama has done, the FBI investigation into her emails most likely will bear fruit and that a Republican will win the White House. Some believe that Obama would rather have a Republican win in 2016 because it will make easier for the president to go on the attack every single day doing the best he can to thwart their attempts at overturning all of his laws. I am surprised that he never pushed his wife out there to run for his third term so he could finish his dirty work. Let me know what you think—thank you. / Posted by Chef V.
