SPRING SESSION 2015

BLOGPOST #1,636 AT THE AICP-END

I should have delved deeper into the Drought Restrictions here in California before I relocated my family and business here…
Bakersfield, CA, 05-15-2015 Friday: One of the things about relocating my and family’s life down to Shafter, California, is the fact that up in Washington State, we have LOTS of water whereas down here in California, we have very little.  In fact, had we known that the drought restrictions were going to become as strict as they have, we might have relocated to Portland, Oregon, up in the green belt along the coastline or the Columbia River.  The great thing about Oregon and Washington is that most of the settled areas are along the coastline or slightly within the interior.  Washington has many more people than its neighbor to the south is; however, it seems as if there are TWO, different states when it comes to Washington, sort of, how things are here in Kern County where I now live.  Back up north again (not to confuse you)--on the western side of the Cascade Mountains--you have the bright lights and big city centered on the edge of the Puget Sound and outward.  However, on the other side of the frosty mountain range in the Columbia Basin, one finds more agricultural operations taking place—the kind of things that keep the restaurants in Seattle and elsewhere up-and-down the Sound on the cutting edge of the culinary arts.
Portland, Oregon—somewhere along the Columbia River would have been REALLY nice…
Here in Kern County, I must say that I am amazed at the size of the county, it, too, has two different parts as I found out long ago.  When I first began coming down from Mukilteo to write for the original blog—the one closed by Choseit.com--and then the refurbished one in the fall of 2010, we used to motor around the county in a bus tour so we could familiarize ourselves with how lovely the place truly was.  If we head north or south, we find many of the communities of good size up-and-down the old Highway 99 route such as the main city Bakersfield and also Delano, Shafter, Wasco, and McFarland.  If one heads out west, you hit the desert oil communities of Taft, Maricopa, Fellows, McKittrick, and far to the west, Cuyama (which actually is in Santa Barbara County but seems more as though it belongs to Kern). You cannot believe the amount of vacant land all throughout the area, most of it covered by active oil wells.
Kern County is almost the size of a State and has several distinct ‘regions’
If one heads south down the 99, you hit Grapevine, then Frazier Park, and that is about it, unless of course, you continue heading to Gorman—part of Los Angeles County—but wishes it could be with Kern.  If you head southeast, you hit the farming commune of Arvin where a big mess of Muslims reside, thereby giving the place the derogative name of “Arvinistan.”  If you continue heading east and up, you hit the magnificent community of Tehachapi where one of our 4-5 prisons resides and then over the Tehachapi Mountains, you find a whole other world.  Out there, you find the Air Force Base at Edwards, California, as well as Mojave, Rosamond, Johannesburg, Randsburg, and then heading north, you find Ridgecrest where there is the Naval Weapons Center and finally, Inyokern—so much land.  Heading back west you find the mountain communities of Kernville, Glennville, and Lake Isabella, all fantastic places to visit and to spend time in the desert or up in the Sequoia National Forest where some truly unique eateries reside.
The Democrats are facing serious losses here in California next November if they do not find a way to protect their precious fish as well as divert water from the north to the south…
Unfortunately, the politicians in Sacramento, the capital of California, all mostly fellow Democrats knew more than a decade ago that we, the people of the world’s eighth largest economy (or so they tell me) would one day face a horrendous water crisis.  They knew that they needed to find a way to protect this despicable little guppy in an area around San Francisco Bay, the Delta smelt, from being sucked into the massive turbines that once diverted water south to provide potable water to everywhere south of the Bay and to the farms up and down the southern San Joaquin Valley.  The environmentalists and the salmon farmers have long fought to stop the water heading to these places because it sucks the pathetic little smelt into the machinery, screwing up both the fish and the damned machines.  As Stinkbug has proclaimed on numerous times, ‘if we can put men on the moon and return them safely to the Earth, then why in Hell can we not find a way to protect the smelt and to send the water SOUTH?’
Why should ONLY San Francisco and Los Angeles matter in a state as large as California?
Still, the state government will do nothing because the environmentalists give them billions if not trillions of dollars to devastate the people of the state with the exceptions of San Francisco and Los Angeles and the farms and ranches that have fed not only the nation but also the world for 100 years or more.  The thing that blows my mind is that once farmers throw in the towel, sell their land, and leave for parts unknown, developers come in, slap in homes and FUCKING swimming pools and then somehow find the water for THEM.  Yet, they also tell us that we who live in the San Joaquin Valley must cut back our water usage by 36-percent or more, which will destroy our yards as they die from lack of water.  Perhaps, I should have bought a fucking condominium!
History is a WITNESS to drastic Electoral Shifts such as what is coming next year…
What I know is this: next year is an election year, a big one, as I see it and I am beginning to think the GOP is going to win and win big.  I expect that both Democrats and Republicans living in California have had enough of liberal nuts running the show.  We can have water for our homes, our farms, and protect the environment at the same time.  What I am hearing is that a growing coalition of all parties is beginning to coalesce so it can defeat all Democrat state senators and assembly members so we can usher in a brand new outlook on what we need to do as a state.  You see, these sorts of things DO happen, when people are tired of spreading their cheeks to some old bastard the people call ‘Moonbeam’ and allowing him to bugger us, the people will rise, throw them out, and we will see the state swing back as does the pendulum in a completely different direction.  If I were a Democrat politician, I would be somewhat afraid.
If I were a Democrat politician, I would indeed be afraid

THE PLAYFUL HEART
As always, we have a great time around here and that is why we want all of you to become a part of the organization by submitting articles to us for inspection and full-credit.  It is a great thing if you would do this, as it is a symbiotic relationship: we give you the space to share your recipes and in return, you send us more and more people who will become dedicated followers of the AICP-END.  Currently of multi-diversity across the Internet, it is important that we hear the voices of more and more people from all walks of the foodservice profession —join us. We urge our readership to write to us, leave comments, and if there are any of you, who would care to write an article for us, please get in touch via Magnolia Hilltop Brewers, P.O. Box 20669, Bakersfield, CA 93390-0669.  We obviously do not pay anything but give YOU full byline and that, my friends, is worth its weight in gold.  We want as many people who want to write to be able to do so and we believe that by presenting a forum for our fellow chefs, we are doing something for our beloved industry.  We love diversity and hope to add new and different authors to our pantheon of chefs, food and beverage directors, and culinary professionals.  Come on and join us, it will be fun! Expect that when all of us have run through our cycle, we will be introducing some brand-new talent or so Stinky says.
AT THE BBC 1973-1975
We have touted the AARC Technology Company here in Bakersfield, CA, and must add the Nerds on Call.com folks.  Without them keeping our blog up-and-running, there is no telling where we would be now.  We have a great many problematic issues here at the AICP-END because even with the best security systems in the world, malware and other terrible fecal materials manage to penetrate the blog site.  Do yourself a favor, hire the best, and note, you can have online help via a remote button on your desktop for just $25 per month!  Get in contact with the Nerds now!  Here is another note: do NOT do business with Galkos Construction, Inc., those people are nothing but crooks as if you lease your system, you will never pay it off, plus you have to pay them for excess energy produced by your system, the electric company does not buy all of it nor do they!  AVOID GCI AT ALL COSTS; DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE CROOKS!
MMX
We are selling recipes all the time and you can order things you would like copies of simply by mailing us your name, address, the recipe you would like and a check for $1.00.  You can buy an entire week’s worth of recipes when we do a series simply by sending us a check or money order (no cash please!) for $20 and we will have it out to you in the next day’s mail.  Please become a part of the AICP-END by sending us your names, addresses, and information and we will welcome all of you with open arms!
A SALTY DOG RETURNS
To buy paintings, recipes, or full article series, please send us your information by mailing us at P.O. Box #20669, Bakersfield, CA, 93309-0669.  You can call about paintings at 661-374-1430; we will take all calls and provide to you as much information as is available.  It is time that we begin taking the next step and to immortalize Beverly Carrick for eternity and begin moving towards the establishment of a website of our own! God bless each single one of you amongst our fan base!
ROOTS AND BRANCHES
I hate to say this, next month; I am going to be frigging 74 years old, which means I have been around, seen things done them, too.  I have seen political situations in the nation and around the world that people thought would NEVER change because whatever political party seemingly had things under control found itself beleaguered, taking it from all sides.  They found themselves wondering what in God’s Holy Name happened, they thought they had it in the bag and lo and behold, lost it all in a massive electoral shift.  That is what I see is going to happen to the Democrats running this state, one of the reasons WHY we decided to move here for good is that it is a GREAT state.  It has the farms, it has the ranches, it has the oil, it has Silicon Valley, it has this magnificent coastline, and it HAD potential.  At some point, the people who still remember the good old days—as aged as they might be—will do whatever it takes to save their state and that is going to happen in November 2016.
Some think that only one or two people create this magnificent blog…FUCK them…
Thanks for joining me today; I welcome comments from everyone, even in Spanish.  I know we are still in the process of building the blog and we think we are doing a fairly decent job of doing it but occasionally people question one of us or another if there are REALLY as many people working here as it seems.  Firstly, people contribute their time more so than make a living from it, we do it out of love.  The truth is that we want to protect the identities of EVERYONE, the world being what it is because there are people on both the right and left sides of the aisle as well as nuts.  That is right, there are lunatics out there such as Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi—the two thugs who shot at the cops outside the ‘draw Mohammad’ contest in Garland, Texas—who would love to attack ANYONE just to say they did.  Even the liberals such as me want to protect their identities so you can take it or leave it, email us and find out.  Have a great day and I will see you all tomorrow--Adios mis amigos!

The Closing Words of our Founder, Stinkbug:
Anyhow, let us close with this impassioned plea—please leave some comments and/or become a follower. What's more, why not spend some money and purchase an album by Procol Harum, Robin Trower, Gary Brooker, Matthew Fisher, James Dewar, and everyone else we advertise here and/or buy a book by any of the authors we advertise here! In addition to that, we occasionally offer cookbooks and other oddball items so always pay attention to whatever you find in the tabs on the right side of the home page, everything you need is there!  Allied with them, we are pleased to market their merchandise!  Amazon.com is one of the greatest—if not the ultimate greatest!—online department stores in which, one can find almost everything on the planet.  We love them and they love us and we want all of you to visit them daily, take advantage of their deals on everything from kitchen equipment to cookbooks, CDs, DVDs, and everything else a person could want.  Everything you buy from them puts money into our pockets, which allows us to keep this fine blog up-and-running 24/7/365!  God bless America and God bless Amazon.com, the world’s largest online marketplace in the world and most likely in the Universe!
Muchas gracias, buen amigos!

  1. I relocated to California for the purpose of retiring in style as well as starting another profitable restaurant and being closer to the blog. However, had I realized the water disaster in the form of the drought was as bad as it is, I might have stopped in Portland, Oregon. As a lifelong Democrat at the age of 73, I have seen many shifts in public opinion and both electoral disasters and gains. I have my finger on the pulse of the state through employing Hispanics at all levels of my businesses and know that many Democrats such as me have lost faith in the California Democrat Party and if something do not happen and soon with the water policy, then we might all be voting for the GOP in November 2016. While we cannot boot out Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown, the aged senile governor—unless we do another Gray Davis-like recall—we can vote out all of the Dems in the State Senate and in the Assembly. We can replace them with Republicans and see if they can solve the problem of protecting both the Delta Smelt and the economy of the nation’s most successful state. Please join us today and share your thoughts with me, I welcome hearing from everyone! Chef Hector Santanamos
