“Political Topics and Essays, Part CDXLIII: Cheryl discusses the Relative Safety of living in the Middle of the Pacific Ocean although in this Day and Age of Global Instability, Nuclear Arms, and Terrorism, nothing is a given” by Chef Cheryl La Tigre

Procol Harum released its next CD, “Licorice John Death,” (2003), an album with a long story, one you need to find online.  Back in the early 1970s, Gary Brooker, Robin Trower, Chris Copping and B.J. Wilson went into a small club and did a stellar show of OLD rock-and-roll iconic tunes.  Originally, the band was known as the Paramounts and this was close to the lineup with which, they started the band.  They used the name “Licorice John Death” rather than the Procol name and this album SMOKES.  When it finally saw the light of day in 2003, after more than 35 years in the catacombs, it was a dream comes true for fans of the band.  Please, go to Amazon.com and avail yourselves of this magnificent CD no matter the price—you can get it for about $40.00.  You will thank us for sending you there.

SPRING SESSION 2015

BLOGPOST #1,616 AT THE AICP-END
It is good to live in the 50th State
Bakersfield, CA, 04-25-2015 Saturday: One thing about living in Hawaii, we do not pay as much attention to global happenings as we do local stuff.  It is understandable when one is close to the midway point in the Pacific as there are no immediate dangers surrounding us.  Sure, there are the Red Chinese, they seek to become a growing presence in the region but still, they do not launch missiles over our heads in test firings, as do the North Koreans to other Pacific Rim nations.  However, when it comes to fighting in the wars of the nation, many Hawaiian youths have stood up and become members of the United States military, proudly serving and if necessary dying for the country they love.  None can ever doubt the level of our patriotism, we have always stood with the Mainland against all threats and have seen the loss of numerous of our young people since the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 until the present day.
I think the U.S. Senate should ratify or not ratify the Iranian Nuclear Deal
One thing that has been in the news lately is the deal with Iran, the one, which the president does his best to keep the details of it to himself.  The Senate has a Constitutional-right to oversee and to approve or disapprove ALL treaties made by representatives of this country and the country with whom we are negotiating.  Yet, it seems President Obama is doing everything he can to push the Iranian nuclear deal through without anyone in the Congress peering too deeply into its inner workings for whatever reason, no one knows. We speculate and we conjecture but whatever the reason is, most Hawaiians do not believe that Iran is a nation we can trust any more than we would trust the flipping North Koreans.
We can trust the Iranians as much as the North Koreans, which is NOTHING
Sanctions imposed by the United States and several Western nations are the only thing that has brought the Iranians to the table in the first place.  Their standard of living has decreased a great deal; many nations do not purchase their petroleum output, which means they have a hard time providing creature comforts to the population as everything flows into the nuclear program.  I recall a time when MY party, the Democrat Party, was against nuclear proliferation and did everything it could to PREVENT other nations outside the current members of the nuclear armaments club from developing the potential to start a nuclear war.  Now, many suspect that we shall see a nuclear arms race throughout the Middle East, which is not in the best interests of ANY civilized nation.
The Middle East is the Flashpoint of the World
The reason for that is the Arabs and the various other groups such as the Iranians who are Persians is that they are all on a hair trigger when it comes to responding to perceived threats, insults, and other provocations, which means they might light up a neighbor or worse, Israel.  If there is ever to be peace in the region and in the world, then it must begin in the Middle East and spread outward to all nations.  We also have other provocateurs such as Russia who seem intent on providing missile systems to the Iranians in case the Israelis decide to light them up in a sneak attack.  However, I think that thanks to the president and his policies, we are putting ourselves at risk more than are necessary.  Things we never thought might happen such as actively engaging with Iran on a variety of fronts such as helping them fight ISIS in Iraq and Syria; we are making deals with the Persian devils.
How can we ally ourselves with the Iranians fighting ISIS?
Something else I find to be troubling is the idea that opening the door to Cuba is a ‘good thing’ for the United States.  It might be a great thing but you have men there in power that have gallons of blood on their hands, the blood of innocents that they either directly murdered themselves or gave the order to murder.  I must say that when I was in Oildale, California, doing my posts for the blog, I had opportunity to listen to a guest on the Jaz McKay Radio show named “Joe,” who came from Cuba and knew a thing about the place commenting on how wrong it is to open the door to these barbarians.  I see nothing this country gains by dealing with the Cuban criminals any more than what we might gain dealing with the Iranians, in the end, all of these despicable regimes have but one desire: to see the power of the United States collapse into nothingness.
Cuba is another place we have no business courting for a ‘friend’

STUMBLEDOWN ROMANCER

THIS WAS NOW ’74-‘98
As always, we have a great time around here and that is why we want all of you to become a part of the organization by submitting articles to us for inspection and full-credit.  It is a great thing if you would do this, as it is a symbiotic relationship: we give you the space to share your recipes and in return, you send us more and more people who will become dedicated followers of the AICP-END.  Currently of multi-diversity across the Internet, it is important that we hear the voices of more and more people from all walks of the foodservice profession —join us. We urge our readership to write to us, leave comments, and if there are any of you, who would care to write an article for us, please get in touch via Magnolia Hilltop Brewers, P.O. Box 20669, Bakersfield, CA 93390-0669.  We obviously do not pay anything but give YOU full byline and that, my friends, is worth its weight in gold.  We want as many people who want to write to be able to do so and we believe that by presenting a forum for our fellow chefs, we are doing something for our beloved industry.  We love diversity and hope to add new and different authors to our pantheon of chefs, food and beverage directors, and culinary professionals.  Come on and join us, it will be fun! Expect that when all of us have run through our cycle, we will be introducing some brand-new talent or so Stinky says.
ONE MORE TIME—LIVE IN UTRECHT, NETHERLANDS 1992
We have touted the AARC Technology Company here in Bakersfield, CA, and must add the Nerds on Call.com folks.  Without them keeping our blog up-and-running, there is no telling where we would be now.  We have a great many problematic issues here at the AICP-END because even with the best security systems in the world, malware and other terrible fecal materials manage to penetrate the blog site.  Do yourself a favor, hire the best, and note, you can have online help via a remote button on your desktop for just $25 per month!  Get in contact with the Nerds now!  Here is another note: do NOT do business with Galkos Construction, Inc., those people are nothing but crooks as if you lease your system, you will never pay it off, plus you have to pay them for excess energy produced by your system, the electric company does not buy all of it nor do they!  AVOID GCI AT ALL COSTS; DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE CROOKS!

CLASSIC TRACKS AND RARITIES
I hate saying it but I do feel somewhat ill at ease observing the global events of the 21st Century.  I am thankful that I live in Hawaii as being alone in the middle of the vast Pacific Ocean does offer some protection from what might happen to mainland cities.  Yes, we might suffer an invasion by the Chinese but that event seems the remotest possibility of all things that might befall our nation and state.  Terrorism, on the other hand, is very problematic as with the ability to produce nuclear material now easier than ever and then channeling it into a dirty bomb, they could lay waste to all of the islands to the point where NO one could live here.  I hope to God that nothing bad ever befalls the nation but sometimes world events cause concerns to rise and people to become uneasy.  Let us pray for a safe world for our children, our elders, and all of us, faith is more important now than ever.  We have one more day to go, friends, I will see you tomorrow bright and early--aloha!
LICORICE JOHN DEATH
The Closing Words of our Founder, Stinkbug:
Anyhow, let us close with this impassioned plea—please leave some comments and/or become a follower. What's more, why not spend some money and purchase an album by Procol Harum, Robin Trower, Gary Brooker, Matthew Fisher, James Dewar, and everyone else we advertise here and/or buy a book by any of the authors we advertise here! In addition to that, we occasionally offer cookbooks and other oddball items so always pay attention to whatever you find in the tabs on the right side of the home page, everything you need is there!  Allied with them, we are pleased to market their merchandise!  Amazon.com is one of the greatest—if not the ultimate greatest!—online department stores in which, one can find almost everything on the planet.  We love them and they love us and we want all of you to visit them daily, take advantage of their deals on everything from kitchen equipment to cookbooks, CDs, DVDs, and everything else a person could want.  Everything you buy from them puts money into our pockets, which allows us to keep this fine blog up-and-running 24/7/365!  God bless America and God bless Amazon.com, the world’s largest online marketplace in the world and most likely in the Universe!
Thanks, my friends!

This is a photo of me back in the 1980’s when I was working at a hotel in Honolulu, HI, on Waikiki Beach.  I began my career in the early 1970’s when I apprenticed to cook under one of the masters on the Big Island where I was born.  I moved to Oahu in the early 1980’s after having worked in both Kona and Hilo, HI, and have been there for most of my professional career.  I have also worked on Maui for a few years (1995-1998) and have been on Kauai (2001-2003) before returning to Honolulu.  My goal is to prepare the next generation of chefs for the future and to help the underprivileged in their struggle to attain careers in the foodservice industry.

  1. Saturday could not come soon enough for Cheryl as today, she discusses the global situation that affects the United States, especially the one dealing with both the Iranians and the Cubans. She admits that even Democrats are not very comfortable with some of the things the President does but at the same time, what can we do about it? We need our Senators to look into the deals that the Obama State Department continues making with state sponsors of terrorism and global thugs. However, living in Hawaii is a good thing because typically, no one—with the exception of global powers such as China—considers doing anything to us should an outbreak of hostilities resulting from terrorism occurs. She expresses concern that many in the United States do not take patriotism seriously enough because here in the islands, we have contributed numerous of our sons to fight in the armed forces of the nation from World War II until now. In some ways, our losses have been disproportionate with the nation as a whole—especially during the war in Vietnam, which shows that the level of our patriotism is extremely high--even in wars with which, we might not agree. Anyhow, much of what we see taking place in the world right now does not make any of us feel comfortable. Let’s hope nothing happens anytime soon. Please, join us today and share your thoughts, we welcome the input of everyone.
