The Kinks’ record company put out the second of a two-part collection of their earlier material, “The Kinks’ Story, Volume II 1967-1971,” (1992) that contained all of the band’s early-to-mid ‘best of’ material.  Modern music listeners must recall that the Kinks came over in the original British invasion, along with the Stones, Beatles, Who, Animals, and Yardbirds.  If you want to hear ‘part one’ of the band’s ‘golden age,’ this is a great way in which, to do so, so please, visit Amazon.com now so you can get it in the format, the condition, and the price that is right for you.

WINTER SESSION 2015

BLOGPOST #1,538 AT THE AICP-END

FOX Television’s New Hit Show, “Empire”
Bakersfield, CA, 02-06-2015 Friday: Welcome to the Friday Edition of the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day, this is the place where conservatives outnumber the liberals, to be sure. A couple of weeks ago, Fox TV—not frigging FOX News—released a fictional show called, “Empire.”  “Empire” stars Terrence Howard and a stunning cast of all sorts of black actors and actresses—with a few people of other colors so it mirrors reality—in a show about a dope dealer turned record company mogul.  The character portrayed by Mr. Howard is a man who has found out he has Lou Gehrig’s disease and that his days all have numbers attached to them.  Add to that that his ex-wife, Taraji P. Henson just got out of federal prison having taken the blame for something her then-husband had done and she wants what is her due: part of the company seeing as how she had put $400,000 of drug money into the founding of Empire Enterprises.
Terrence Howard aka “Lucious Lyon” of “Empire”
The plot thickens when the character played by HensonCookie Lyon—is out of prison provided she dish out some dirt on either her husband or someone else near him and also that she and her ex-husband, “Lucious Lyon” (Howard) have three grown children—one of whom is gay—competing to inherit their father’s company.  What’s more, Lucious shot Cookie’s cousin because he was going to rat out his longtime friend, Lucious’ over the fact that he would not give him a grubstake so he could gamble, booze, and whore it away.  The police are investigating the cousin’s death while the Feds are all over Cookie and it makes for one hell of a show every Wednesday night.  What I am trying to say is that it is about time we had a quality ‘black’ show on prime time television because normally, we get crap like “Blackish,” which is frigging embarrassing to blacks, people.  If I sought embarrassment, I would watch any one of these damned Gay shows that seem to be the order of the day—enough is enough, people, can we not get all of the sword-swallowers off the damned television?
Taraji P. Henson aka “Cookie Lyon” of “Empire”
Billy Crystal, the actor, said something to this effect a couple of weeks ago when asked about something, he said, ‘what is with all of the gay love scenes in movies and television, I am sick of them.’  He said words to that effect more or less and the Gay Nazis came swooping down on him so much so that within 24 hours, he had to come out and backtrack on his words.  He had to update his comments to “ALL love scenes” when in truth, we all know what he was saying—why is it we have to have homosexuals stuffing their disgusting views down our throats all the time, why does the Lucious Lyon character have to have a ‘gay son?’  No self-respecting black man would ever admit to being ‘gay’ and for those who do, we send them out into the world on their own.  This is something only white folks and Hispanics have to contend with, it is not something any of us would ever admit to or accept.  At least in “Empire,” Lucious Lyon’s character took his son to the garbage can when he came prancing into the room dressed in his mother’s clothes in front of family and friends.  Shame, shame, shame, people!
Gay Nazis
Anyhow, I would urge everyone to give “Empire” a view on Fox Wednesday nights.  It is a show that I believe is destined for great things, provided the producers and the writers keep going down this road, building intensity by the moment.  For way too long black television, shows have all featured by characters such as ‘Herkel,” dimwits such as him or the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”  I am glad that Will Smith found his way in the world and was able to shake off the dumbbell label.  We have enough crappy shows on television such as the latest incarnation of “Two and a Half Men,” the long-time show on CBS that once featured a stellar cast.  However, when Charlie Sheen left the show, everything went into the crapper, it fell apart to the degree that we quit watching it except when nothing else is on the box.  It is not a show that I would rush home to see anytime soon unless Charlie somehow leaves the ‘grave’ and returns to the show.  Unfortunately, they killed his character off so I have no idea as to how they would pull it off.
Two-and-a-Half Men with Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer, and Angus T. Jones—the Classic Lineup
That will do it for today, folks, check out “Empire” if you get the opportunity to do so.  Fox does not always come up with winners but in this case, they seem to have created a good working story that has numerous twists and turns, something that keeps the viewer hanging on to every turn.  I love Taraji P. Henson, when she was on “Person of Interest,” she was a strong character and now that she is acting like a ‘true sister,’ playing herself, I would suspect, she is a star, a bona fide star, have no doubt about that.  I look for her to do great things one day and to bring a lot of attention to additional black actors, making many into stars.  The time has come when we need to begin the process of adding additional credits to our community, as there is more to us than just rappers and entertainers like many of the hos leaping around on stage showing their hootchie off to anyone who will buy a ticket.  We are so much better than that.

THE KINKS—25 YEARS—THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION
As always, we have a great time around here and that is why we want all of you to become a part of the organization by submitting articles to us for inspection and full-credit.  It is a great thing if you would do this, as it is a symbiotic relationship: we give you the space to share your recipes and in return, you send us more and more people who will become dedicated followers of the AICP-END.  Currently of multi-diversity across the Internet, it is important that we hear the voices of more and more people from all walks of the foodservice profession —join us. We urge our readership to write to us, leave comments, and if there are any of you, who would care to write an article for us, please get in touch via Magnolia Hilltop Brewers, P.O. Box 20669, Bakersfield, CA 93390-0669.  We obviously do not pay anything but give YOU full byline and that, my friends, is worth its weight in gold.  We want as many people who want to write to be able to do so and we believe that by presenting a forum for our fellow chefs, we are doing something for our beloved industry.  We love diversity and hope to add new and different authors to our pantheon of chefs, food and beverage directors, and culinary professionals.  Come on and join us, it will be fun! Expect that when all of us have run through our cycle, we will be introducing some brand-new talent or so Stinky says.
THE KINKS—THE FAB FORTY
We have touted the AARC Technology Company here in Bakersfield, CA, and must add the Nerds on Call.com folks.  Without them keeping our blog up-and-running, there is no telling where we would be now.  We have a great many problematic issues here at the AICP-END because even with the best security systems in the world, malware and other terrible fecal materials manage to penetrate the blogsite.  Do yourself a favor, hire the best, and note, you can have online help via a remote button on your desktop for just $25 per month!  Get in contact with the Nerds now!  Here’s another note: do NOT do business with Galkos Construction, Inc., those people are nothing but crooks as if you lease your system, you will never pay it off, plus you have to pay them for excess energy produced by your system, the electric company does not buy all of it nor do they!  AVOID GCI AT ALL COSTS; DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE CROOKS!
LOST AND FOUND—THE KINKS 1986-1989
We are selling recipes all the time and you can order things you would like copies of simply by mailing us your name, address, the recipe you would like and a check for $1.00.  You can buy an entire week’s worth of recipes when we do a series simply by sending us a check or money order (no cash please!) for $20 and we will have it out to you in the next day’s mail.  Please become a part of the AICP-END by sending us your names, addresses, and information and we will welcome all of you with open arms!
THE COMPLETE COLLECTION
To buy paintings, recipes, or full article series, please send us your information by mailing us at P.O. Box #20669, Bakersfield, CA, 93309-0669.  You can call about paintings at 661-374-1430; we will take all calls and provide to you as much information as is available.  It is time that we begin taking the next step and to immortalize Beverly Carrick for eternity and begin moving towards the establishment of a website of our own! God bless each single one of you amongst our fan base!
THE KINKS STORY VOLUME I 1964-1966
I am glad that we can take different pathways any given day here at the AICP-END and we must remember, each of us has a ‘voice’ with which, we speak so if the folks at Google Blogger do not like something I might have said, they can ask me to leave and not shutdown the whole God-darned thing.  Stinkbug has put way too much effort into this blog and besides, if we cannot use our right to freedom of speech and share some photos about things we find ourselves discussing, then what sort of world is that?  We urge folks to borrow not only our conversations but also our own in-house images so they re-broadcast them across the Internet.  We are about freedom of speech and the fair sharing of online data, if we quote someone, we give them credit and if it comes from us, then you need to apply credit to us.  Thanks for joining me today; I will see you tomorrow as we enter the weekend.  Have a good one and goodbye!
THE KINKS STORY VOLUME II 1967-1971
The Closing Words of our Founder, Stinkbug:
Anyhow, let us close with this impassioned plea—please leave some comments and/or become a follower. What's more, why not spend some money and purchase an album by the Kinks, Dave Davies, Ray Davies, and everyone else we advertise here and/or buy a book by any of the authors we advertise here! In addition to that, we occasionally offer cookbooks and other oddball items so always pay attention to whatever you find in the tabs on the right side of the home page, everything you need is there!  Allied with them, we are pleased to market their merchandise!  Amazon.com is one of the greatest—if not the ultimate greatest!—online department stores in which, one can find almost everything on the planet.  We love them and they love us and we want all of you to visit them daily, take advantage of their deals on everything from kitchen equipment to cookbooks, CDs, DVDs, and everything else a person could want.  Everything you buy from them puts money into our pockets, which allows us to keep this fine blog up-and-running 24/7/365!  God bless America and God bless Amazon.com!
Thanks, my friends!

This is I, your beloved host, back in the 1980’s when I was working at a restaurant in Wasco, CA, my hometown.  I joined the Chefs de Cuisine of Greater Bakersfield, ACF, not long after it was chartered and am still a member even though the chapter is no longer in operation.  I began working in foodservice in the late 1960’s, moved from Wasco, CA, to Monterey, CA, and then returned to my hometown in 2004.  I have been a foodserver, a Mixologist, and am a Certified Cook.  I am equally at home in both the kitchen and behind the bar (and on the floor, too).  My passions are numerous and my favorite is working in the bakery whenever I have had a chance.

1 comment:

  1. Bea takes some time off discussing politics to share some thoughts on the FOX TV show, “Empire,” the one starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, both uniquely talented actors. Bea thinks it is high time we have a great show that showcases numerous acting and musical talents in the black world, because in her view, they do not receive half the credit they deserve. The cast of this show is tremendous, the storyline excellent, and this is one that everyone needs to get in on the ground floor. The world of network television is a dog-eat-dog affair as many times shows the public deems to be great end up on the chopping block. Look at “Dracula,” starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, now that was a show and it would appear that it won’t be coming back. We love “Grimm,” that is one heck of a show and “Dracula” used to come on after it. This year, they put “Constantine” in its place—a good show to say the least but “Dracula” did not deserve to hit the cutting room floor. We wish they would bring it back but most likely, they won’t so it is important that everyone join in on the ground floor of “Empire” if a great vehicle giving numerous talented black performers is going to survive. Please, check out the show and spend some time with us, we welcome everyone to participate in our blog. Thank you!
