1,1086th BLOGPOST AT THE AICP-END
The San Francisco 49ers
Bakersfield, CA, 02-19-2014 Wednesday: I should have mentioned it on Monday but neglected to do so but wanted to say “sorry” to all of the fans of the San Francisco 49ers seeing as how they crapped out in the NFC Championship Game.  In Hawaii, we have a big fan base of the teams from the west coast of the United States because it is to them we look for sports outside our local stuff.  Something that should amaze every American is the fact that numerous kids from the islands make it into professional baseball, football, and even basketball because we have such a strong history of turning out champions.  We have players at virtually every level of sports with more to come so it is no mystery as to why we are so sports crazy here at home.  I had hopes for the 49ers but Seattle turned out to be the better team and so played well and went on to win the Super Bowl, something for which, they deserve praise from every American.  Our only wish here in Hawaii is that at what point will the powers that control the show in Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, the National Football League or even the National Hockey League going to consider Honolulu ready to enter the world of professional sports?  We are ready and want to see a major expansion team given to these very loyal, supportive people, we can do it, we want it and we beg you now to give us a team!

The National Hockey League
Now, I believe a hockey team might be stretching it a bit but if the NFL is considering placing a team in London, England, then why the heck can we not get a team placed in Honolulu.  We have a large population with a great deal of wealth who would love to support a team, even if it was not that good.  Back in the day when Ted Turner ran TBS, we always had Major League Baseball in the form of watching the Atlanta Braves’ games.   Yes, many of them came on early in the morning but it was not uncommon for us to spend a day off watching baseball and wishing we were there.  Who does not remember all of the great Braves’ players like slugger, Dale Murphy, the pitchers, Tommy Glavine, John Smoltz, and a whole host of other great players on their way to winning the championship several times over the course of their careers?  At some point, we began losing that very enjoyable benefit and hope that someday we will have a team playing here in the Hawaiian Islands—we would have massive attendance for every home game, it would be great!  Even a WNBA team would be good, I am sure we would support women playing basketball because we do not differentiate between the sexes here in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, we would love to have a team!
The Hawaiian Islanders Triple A Baseball Club
One thing we did have was a Triple A minor league baseball team that like you folks here in Bakersfield, California, who have the Blaze baseball team, the Islanders went through numerous affiliations.  Our team, the Hawaii Islanders was in the Pacific Coast League from 1961-1989 and played baseball with the best of them.  We won titles and won division titles and the people loved their team but like most things, economics and loss of interest caused the team to fold.  However, the main reason it collapsed was due to bad choices in picking places to play and problems in the front office causing contracts that—basically—starved the team of revenue and caused them to relocate to Colorado.  Nothing can survive that and so the Hawaiian people lost the closest thing to having a sports franchise and it’s time—a quarter of a century later, no less!—to remedy the situation!  Please, we would love to have another Triple A ball club or even better, an expansion team of the NBA!
The National Basketball Association
There is a story that recently appeared in newspapers last week, one about the attack on an electrical substation near San Jose, California, in which, two men first cut the phone lines, then took out five transformers, nearly cutting off power to Silicon Valley.  These assailants had automatic weapons and severely damaged 17 of these vulnerable pieces of equipment that could be a trial run for a larger, more hostile assault.  At first, the authorities said that it was an act of vandalism but finally after more news kept coming out, you know, eluding the government’s censors, the federal government had to break the story or lose any credibility that it might still have after the NSA and IRS scandals.  Besides, people in the area reported that members of both the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation spent a week onsite closely gathering evidence and doing interviews.  Yet, HOW much of this have you heard on national TV or any other show for that matter, it’s almost as if they want to keep this quiet no matter the cost.  If I were you, I would be afraid living on the mainland because YOU are potential targets for terrorism at all times!
Department of Homeland Security
This is a quote I found to be of interest in the Bakersfield Californian newspaper I read when I first came to town and it’s from a gentleman named John Wellinghof, the man who was the chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission at the time of the attack.  This is what he said: “it would not be that hard to bring down the entire region west of the Rockies if you had, in fact, a coordinated attack like this against a number of substations.  This event shows that there are people out there capable of such an attack.”  These people fired 120 shots at the facility’s transformers and 110 of them hit their intended targets, this is not something some kids with squirrel rifles set out to do, to me, this was a trial run for a bigger attack that could throw the nation into a mess of trouble.  We need to be vigilant now more so than ever, I am telling you, because our enemies never sleep but we seem to sleep a great bit—we cannot allow something like this to happen again and believe me, I am afraid for Hawaii to some degree but not like I am for here.
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. Logo
It’s interesting how we can go from discussing sports one minute to considering acts of terrorism occurring in the nation’s interior and I am telling you, we had better begin the process of securing all power-generating facilities as well as dams and other highly important infrastructure as if we don’t, we are begging for terrorist attacks to hit us.  While I was not alive during Japan’s sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, I certainly remember my family talking about it as I grew up and no one at the time ever thought that something like that was possible.  In fact, it was the other way around, people feared acts of sabotage and a possible uprising of local Japanese but never thought for one minute that a carrier-based air assault was something we had to fear.  When the Japanese warplanes showed up over Pearl Harbor’s Battleship Row, the airfields, and Honolulu, people were stunned; they thought it was our planes conducting some sort of drill until the bombs began exploding all around us.  By that time, it was too late and we were lucky to have shot down the planes we managed to hit; had we not been able to that, it would the disaster would have been far worse.
The Flag of the Empire of Japan
Now that we live in a world of terrorism, we live in a world in which we do know who our enemies are and why the United States has not put a stop to immigration from these places or from areas in which, Islam predominates all other religions because these areas are where our enemies emanate.  Virtually every other nation fearing for its national life does not allow these people to enter their territories and no one calls them ‘racists,’ or ‘bigots,’ they accept it.   The fact that we continue allowing enemies of this country to enter it unmolested means that we permit the seeds of our destruction to easily enter the country through whatever means necessary or border that is open, which in the end will prove devastating to the country’s security.  Can you imagine what will happen to the administration in charge when the inevitable WMD strike occurs, it’s not something anyone in their right mind should ever need to contemplate except in the present political climate we now find ourselves embroiled.  This is madness and it makes me feel better when I am on that jumbo jet bound for home, it’s easier to defend the islands than it is this monstrous, never-ending land mass, especially with the lax security ‘guarding’ our borders.  Something needs to happen to nation’s lawmakers to somehow snap their heads back so they realize the peril into which, they have placed us, their hubris needs curtailment.
The Island of Maui
That will do it for today, I think we have covered the topics of interest for this lovely Wednesday in February, granted, it’s a bit more cool here in Kern County than at home.  We have been enjoying weather in the high seventies and low eighties, a very lovely time indeed.  The green on the West Maui Mountains and up the slope of Haleakala is absolutely gorgeous, granted not what it was when the sugar cane covered the slopes of Pele’s house but still, enough that the old-timers like myself remember the good old days.  If you want to see the ‘real’ Hawaii, you need to visit either Molokai or Lanai, and then maybe somehow get permission to visit Niihau.  That island is sort of our ‘Native American reservation’ in that the people there go about the ways of their ancestors’ ancestors’ ancestors.  I’ve been there once and would love to go back but it is difficult to do so, so once might be all there is!  What you need to do is to come visit us and get the Aloha Spirit embedded in your heart and you will be with us for the rest of your lives!

SIXTEEN GREATEST HITS
As always, we have a great time around here and that is why we want all of you to become a part of the organization by submitting articles to us for inspection and full-credit.  It is a great thing if you would do this, as it is a symbiotic relationship: we give you the space to share your recipes and in return, you send us more and more people who will become dedicated followers of the AICP-END.  Currently of multi-diversity across the Internet, it is important that we hear the voices of more and more people from all walks of the foodservice profession —join us. We urge our readership to write to us, leave comments, and if there are any of you, who would care to write an article for us, please get in touch via Magnolia Hilltop Brewers, P.O. Box 20669, Bakersfield, CA 93390-0669.  We obviously do not pay anything but give YOU full byline and that, my friends, is worth its weight in gold.  We want as many people who want to write to be able to do so and we believe that by presenting a forum for our fellow chefs, we are doing something for our beloved industry.  We love diversity and hope to add new and different authors to our pantheon of chefs, food and beverage directors, and culinary professionals.  Come on and join us, it will be fun! Expect that when all of us have run through our cycle, we will be introducing some brand-new talent or so Stinky says.
MOVE ALONG
We have touted the AARC Technology Company here in Bakersfield, CA, and must add the Nerds on Call.com folks.  Without them keeping our blog up-and-running, there is no telling where we would be now.  We have a great many problematic issues here at the AICP-END because even with the best security systems in the world, malware and other terrible fecal materials manage to penetrate the blogsite.  Do yourself a favor, hire the best, and note, you can have online help via a remote button on your desktop for just $25 per month!  Get in contact with the Nerds now!  Here’s another note: do NOT do business with Galkos Construction, Inc., those people are nothing but crooks as if you lease your system, you will never pay it off, plus you have to pay them for excess energy produced by your system, the electric company does not buy all of it nor do they!  AVOID GCI AT ALL COSTS; DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE CROOKS!
ALOTTA MILEAGE
We are selling recipes all the time and you can order things you would like copies of simply by mailing us your name, address, the recipe you would like and a check for $1.00.  You can buy an entire week’s worth of recipes when we do a series simply by sending us a check or money order (no cash please!) for $20 and we will have it out to you in the next day’s mail.  Please become a part of the AICP-END by sending us your names, addresses, and information and we will welcome all of you with open arms!
THE ABC COLLECTION
To buy paintings, recipes, or full article series, please send us your information by mailing us at P.O. Box #20669, Bakersfield, CA, 93309-0669.  You can call about paintings at 661-834-5185; we will take all calls and provide to you as much information as is available.  It is time that we begin taking the next step and to immortalize Beverly Carrick for eternity and begin moving towards the establishment of a website of our own! God bless each single one of you amongst our fan base!
POWERS OF THE NIGHT/UPROOTED
I want to thank you for joining me today for the good work that we do here at this blog, we get a lot done that few other blogs ever come close to doing.  We hope that maybe one day when we have done all that we can do to keep you informed that someone will buy us like AOL bought the Huffington Post (I think it was AOL) for millions of dollars!  Who does not want to hit the lottery at least once in their lifetime, that is what ‘luck’ is all about, it’s the thing that keeps you going, even when the chips are down and things look bad.  In Hawaii, there’s always hope, there is the spirit which I mentioned earlier, all of us have been imbued by it and it’s what makes us special.  We do not have half the problems with which, you deal on the mainland and I believe the people are more vigilant when it comes to strangers nosing around places in which, they have no business going. One Pearl Harbor was enough, yeah?  I will see you tomorrow, so please buy some CDs, leave some comments, become a follower, and send us everyone you know to join us by becoming daily readers!  Aloha for today, I will see you all tomorrow, bright and early!
THE GRASS ROOTS ANTHOLOGY 1965-1975
Stinkbug’s Closing:
Anyhow, let us close with this impassioned plea—please leave some comments and/or become a follower. What's more, why not spend some money and purchase an album by the Grass Roots,  It’s A Beautiful Day,  Moby Grape, and everyone else we have advertised and/or buy a cookbook from Amazon.com—we want to make some money here so help us out by buying something!  Allied with them, we are pleased to market their merchandise!  Amazon.com is one of the greatest—if not the ultimate greatest!—online department stores in which, one can find almost everything on the planet.  We love them and they love us and we want all of you to visit them daily, take advantage of their deals on everything from kitchen equipment to cookbooks, CDs, DVDs, and everything else a person could want.  Everything you buy from them puts money into our pockets, which allows us to keep this fine blog up-and-running 24/7/365!  God bless America and God bless Amazon.com!
Thank you!
