Obamacare—coming soon to a Neighborhood near You!

Bakersfield, CA, 07-31-2013 Wednesday: My friends, I am glad to see you this early Wednesday morning, the final day of the month of July, too, and once tomorrow arrives, we have two short months until the day insurance exchanges begin opening in all 50 states.  October 01, 2013, is the target date for people to begin signing up for healthcare coverage and it looks like most of us will be visiting the Democratic-hacks operating the insurance offices.  You know, I have not had a great deal of interaction with the government in a long time other than in signing up for Social Security and Medicare and also suffered a tax audit several years ago, none of which, I truly enjoyed.  The fact that it would appear that we now must supply agents of the Internal Revenue Service with our most personal information should frighten the hell out of ALL of us and yet, everyone seems to be walking about docilely.   I cannot imagine anything more intrusive other than being a guest of the American penal system and having someone conduct a full cavity search upon my person—that would be extremely unpleasant although I suspect there is a certain group that would welcome someone doing it to them; but that is NOT me!

The Internal Revenue Service
One thing we currently are trying to do is to help our great-grandchildren find suitable insurance if they choose to remain here in the United States should we choose to move somewhere else.  While my wife, Lucinda, and I plan to move to Israel in a few years, the situation might arise which might force us to leave sooner.  We would love to spend time in the Caribbean and if Israel suffers any terrorist attacks in the intervening time, then we might decide to remain there.  We both love the islands off the coast of the U.S. and love the other islands lining the waters of the CaribbeanGrenada is a lovely place since President Reagan cleaned the communists out and it might offer us a lovely chance to enjoy island living without having to deal with the politics of our own country.  Do you realize how much the tension, stress, animosity and anger has increased since the calendar flipped over from 1999 to 2000?  It has been horrible and all of it is so unnecessary, that is the thing that makes most sane people begin questioning their mental state.
The Once and Future Smuck, Former Senator John Edwards of North Carolina
Last week on Tuesday, our beloved Great Leader told the nation that he is now going to concentrate on making our ‘rapidly improving economy even better’ and all I can say about that is that now, I believe in the disgraced John Edwards’ notion that there are TWO Americas!  The reason for this comment is that I wonder what America our president resides in because it certainly is NOT the one in which, the rest of us call home.  You recall the person of whom, I speak, you know, the smuck who ran as John Kerry’s running mate back in 2004 and again ran for president in 2008 until it was discovered that he did indeed have a love child with some slut who had worked for him as his personal photographer?  Yes, that is the one, the little prick with the lovely coif to his hair, the so-called ‘thousand dollar haircut,’ he lived in the RICH America while those whose votes he sought lived in the OTHER America.
Former Senator and Present Secretary of State, John Kerry of Massachusetts
The post I have chosen for you today comes from 2009 from our original blogsite at Choseit.com, published well before the Obama Administration closed our blog.  I chose this post, one written by our friend, Roland Carl Davis who is the assistant publisher here at the blog but no longer writes articles because of his numerous activities.  This post deals with the specifics of race and racism and how stereotypes are created and then maintained and WHY they are.  I find it to be quite poignant and thought provoking, something we need in this day and age of Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman.  What I want to know is WHY we are more at one another’s throats than ever before and what we must do to restore the progress we’ve made over the past fifty years.  Here we go:

Elemental News of the Day Commentary for Tuesday, May 19, 2009 by Roland Carl Davis
How Racial Stereotypes are Created, Maintained
Bakersfield, CA, 05-19-2009—every writer who wishes to discuss a subject must first have to establish his or her credibility in order successfully to argue his or her point. For 2½ years, I was engaged to a black woman and bridged the gap between the ways in which I had grown up as opposed to her upbringing. At a much younger age, blacks very much intimidated me, as I had not grown up around them until I moved from Dallas, Texas, to Bakersfield at 9 years of age. Later on, after 39 years in the foodservice industry, I became inured to working with people of diverse ethnicities, economic backgrounds, gender, legal, or illegal status, and sexual preferences. Finally, after having been involved with my ex-fiancée for the time that we had had, my self-induced sensitivity training of the world had become complete.
The Texas Flag
I remember back in the late Sixties and throughout much of the Seventies, a difficult time period in which to mature, that my views of the world in general had undergone a comprehensive overhaul. Of course, there had been prejudice and yes, I was not totally untouched by them. I will certainly agree, however, that life was difficult for many minority students. Yet, in a way, we might also have been closer than we are now. Take, for example, radio stations; there were no separate ones back then as now with the exception being pure country and western and Latino. The radio waves that I allowed penetrating the space between my ears had to have an intense diet of Sixties rock, rhythm, and soul with a little bit oldies from the decade before thrown in for measure.
Welcome to Bakersfield, California
Furthermore, besides the odd country tune or MOR schlock like ABBA thrown in to add flavor to the pot, we also had a large selection of Motown hit-makers. Groups such Little Anthony and the Imperials, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles; the Temptations, Gladys Knight and the Pips, and the Ojays made my day. Single acts like Aretha Franklin, Little Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, and smooth-steppin' Rufus Thomas (who was old back then!) poured from out of the speakers. Still later, groups like the Jackson Five, and the Undisputed Truth influenced my musical world. The point that I am trying to make is that I grew up listening to a wide variety of music on ONE-or-TWO radio stations. I knew as much about James Brown as I did the Rolling Stones. In fact, I saw James Brown perform in Bakersfield, which made me want to learn how to do the splits

The Rolling Stones
Things began to change in the Eighties as Rap Music began to replace the Commodores, KC and the Sunshine Band, and Kool and the Gang. Heavy Metal followed Punk Rock and Country parted ways with Country. It began to seem like everybody began to compartmentalize and where one such as me had a view that transcended across the musical abyss, the successive generations no longer got to choose from a vast menu such as I had myself.
Otis Redding
Rap Music is a style born out of pain, anger, and rage. Contradictorily, women are now sexualized fantasies and yet, disrespected for it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not preachin' to the choir but the point I'm trying to make is that after decades of fear fomented by ignorant and imbecilic whites, it has now become the turn of the blacks to repay the favor. Rappers began to spout the "gang-stah" image, which definitely is the new personification of the "threatening black brute." The language, the dress, the boldness, the "in-your-face, the you know what white-boy" caused more fear than just being called a "dumb-old-honky!"
The parodies and caricatures of the African-American are still alive and well today in 21st Century America.
"Sambo," most definitely, is alive and well. The Office Depot commercial featuring the happy brother with the crazy Afro bouncing and quickstepping down the hallway of an office provides a perfect illustration. The music is pure '70’s Motown— "The Rubber Band Man"—and the happy-go-lucky fellow can be interpreted as a modern-day "Sambo." This image is one that most whites can readily accept. He's happy, he's dancing, and he's the "Rubber Band Man!" He's fun! My mom and I both like him so what does that say about us? "Sambo" is a character to which all non-blacks can approve of. However, why have no blacks raised eyebrows over this image? If I was black and felt that it was indeed whites having fun at my expense rather than fellow blacks, I think I'd raise a voice of protest over the commercial. How come the African-American community has not voiced an objection?
"Mammy" types are typical characters on many black shows. "What's Happenin'?" in the decade of the 1970’s was a prime example. One of the central characters is an overweight female and she's brassy as sin and accepts no lip. A popular big screen illustration is the much more recent hit, "Big Mama's House." Once again, there's a viable "Mammy." Apparently, she's an acceptable image whether black or white. The funny thing is that after having been involved with my ex-fiancée, I came to learn from watching her, her two sisters, her mother, and a niece or two that in many a black household, the female is the dominant member. While that wasn't true of our household together, it appeared to be true in those of the rest of her family. What does that say about familial structure within the black community?
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas
The "Uncle" image is one that is directed towards the members of the African-American community who appear to be within the sphere of the white community. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is a good example of the "Uncle." Many fellow blacks have perceived him to be the classic "Oreo,"-—the "black on the outside, white on the inside" insult that can prove to be so disparaging especially to a person who should be viewed as a positive role model. Why does person of minority status and who has crossed from one side to the other considered a sell-out by his peers? Martin Luther King certainly had not compromised himself yet he worked with many white people sympathetic to the cause of equal rights for all citizens. His outstanding, Letter from Birmingham Jail bridged the gap for citizens of all colors to come together
The TV sitcoms of the Seventies and Eighties more-or-less portrayed blacks as either "Sambo" or "Zip Coon." However, by the Nineties, a completely different group of sit-coms set blacks apart from other racial groups. The language had become similar to the much-disputed "Ebonics." The language is as different as is the dress, hairstyles, make-up, looks—now, once again, it seems as each segment of society is being encapsulated. I can still recall the difference in programs watched when I was with my ex. The two children who were my stepchildren (or would have been) watched programs that were completely different than I would have watched myself. Moreover, I attempted to bridge the gap but was not very successful at doing it.
Colin Powell
It's as if we are being separated from each other, no longer is culture shared, and is this the beginning of a new segregation? Do we, as Americans, have to celebrate our differences rather than the things that once unified us? Do we have to intimidate and frighten one another? No! We are supposed to be Americans first and hyphenation second. I lived across culture and am not intimidated by any one culture, something important in today's troubled world. Had not my health begun to deteriorate gradually over the past four years, I might have been married to Tanzie and possibly have had children with her.
Black Conservative Alan Keyes
Therefore, in conclusion, all of the stereotypes are still in existence today other than the "pickaninny"; the only difference is that the whites aren't doing it to the blacks—the blacks are doing it to themselves. In addition, the most important thing that anyone should know is their own history as if they do not, whoever does know it will be able to manipulate it. From my perspective, I believe that modern-day African-Americans has allowed these images to remain before the senses of modern-day America. Still and all, blacks have made fantastic gains by leaps and bounds but what are the images that automatically come to mind? Is it political pundits that discuss modern-day politics or current history across the alphabet channels or is it someone such as P-Diddy?
Former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice
Furthermore, do respected political figures such as Alan Keyes, J. C. Watts, Condoleezza Rice, or Colin Powell come readily to mind or someone such as Michael Jackson? Do the positive images outweigh the negative ones? Do we think of positive sports personas such as Steve McNair or Donovan McNab or do the likes of Keshawn Johnson, Terrell Owens, or Randy Moss come to mind? I conclude my argument with these examples; unfortunately, when one group is in the minority, the negative images are far more devastating than are the positive ones. Moreover, it is indeed a shame that the negative ones of "Sambo," "Zip-Coon," "Mammy," "Uncle," and "the Black Brute" are the ones that are maintained rather than the ones that celebrate dignity and nobility.
Canned Heat

CANNED HEAT
CANNED HEAT were one of the great blues-boogie bands to burst out of Los Angeles, California, in the mid-1960’s and featured a great lineup of musicians such as Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson (guitar, slide guitar, harp, & vocals), Bob “the Bear” Hite (vocals and harp), and Henry “Sunflower” Vestine (lead guitar and vocals).  Added to that was Larry “the Mole” Taylor on bass and Fito de la Parra on the drums.  In addition to a hardcore attack on the blues and boogie numbers, they also squeezed in some psychedelic sounds and their greatest moment was performing live at the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival at Yasgur’s Farm in Upstate New York.

XXI.   Saturday, 06-25-2011: “Burnin’ Live”:  this CD came out in 1991 and featured a concert from the time down in Australia, with several notable blues musicians joining original drummer, Fito de la Parra.  This is a good CD and one you need to own!

XXII.   Sunday, 06-26-2011: “Boogie Assault”:  This CD came out in 1991 and features another Australian show with more or less the same lineup and is yet another example of one of the best blues-boogie bands of this day.  Give it a listen by going to the link of the previous day, picking it up, and enjoying the raucous sounds!

XXIII.                   Monday: 06-27-2011:”Canned Heat Live” in 1993, we have yet another live album albeit one from farther back in the band’s history.  This means it is definitely one every true fan of 1960’s-1970’s rock and roll should acquire!

XXIV.Tuesday: 06-28-2011: “Internal Combustion” this 1994 CD features original material, a true gem of an album as the band does not get a chance to deliver new music to its fans very often.  Therefore, I urge all of you to check this one out, it’s that good!

XXV.   Wednesday: 06-29-2011: “Uncanned—the Best of Canned Heat”:” in 1994, the band put out another best of compilation and this is a great one indeed!  I always like suggesting albums such as this one to potential fans as it contains all of the good tunes and then some!  Music is in the ear of the beholder and this one is true ear candy, stuff I know that even the mildest fan of the era will get them to get up and boogie!
Canned Heat’s Bob Hite at the Woodstock Show in 1969
That will do it for the music section of Wednesday’s blogpost so now, we begin heading to the end.  A few weeks ago, my wife and I had the pleasure of seeing Quentin Tarratino’s movie, “The Man with Iron Fists,” and let me tell you, that was a ballbuster of a movie!  I love Russell Crowe, that man is truly unique and the fact that he was in this martial arts flick of sorts uplifted it to the next level.  I also enjoy watching the very lovely Lucy Liu and if I was about 60 years younger, I would love to hop on her bones (good thing Lucinda is not paying attention at the moment) but sadly, I am not. Oh, life is so cruel my friends, when an old man no longer has fire in his furnace but lots and lots of snow on his rooftop!  Then again, I am an honorable man and have always done my best to steer clear of any sexual liassons and entanglements as I do love my wife and see her as the ultimate woman of the world.  There, that should clear me of any fantasies about the exquisite Lucy Liu.  Anyhow, it’s a great movie and if you missed it at the theater, by all means, get it from Netflix!

We have touted the AARC Technology Company here in Bakersfield, CA, and must add the Nerds on Call.com folks.  Without them keeping our blog up-and-running, there is no telling where we would be now.  We have a great many problematic issues here at the AICP-END because even with the best security systems in the world, malware and other terrible fecal materials manage to penetrate the blogsite.  Do yourself a favor, hire the best, and note, you can have online help via a remote button on your desktop for just $25 per month!  Get in contact with the Nerds now!  Here’s another note: do NOT do business with Galkos Construction, Inc., those people are nothing but crooks as if you lease your system, you will never pay it off, plus you have to pay them for excess energy produced by your system, the electric company does not buy all of it nor do they!  AVOID GCI AT ALL COSTS; DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE CROOKS!

God bless each single one of you amongst our fan base!
LIVE
The Iron Butterfly album we offered today is a good one as it shows a change in personnel for the best.  The guitars are much more professional while the psychedelica is just as good, if not better, and this album has always been one of my favorites.  Having seen the band in its heyday at the Fillmore West, all I can say is that I wish I could have seen them again, they were amazing.  I think that all of you who are fans of this sort of music should take great pride in adding their entire repertoire to your collection as there is no band—save Steppenwolf—that could marry power with acid and deliver the goods night after night after night!  I will see all of you tomorrow, my friends, on HUMP DAY!
METAMORPHOSIS
Anyhow, let us close with this impassioned plea—please leave some comments and/or become a follower. What's more, why not spend some money and purchase an album by Country Joe and the Fish or Iron Butterfly, and/or buy a cookbook from Amazon.com—we want to make some money here so help us out by buying something!  Allied with them, we are pleased to market their merchandise!  Amazon.com is one of the greatest—if not the ultimate greatest!—online department stores in which, one can find almost everything on the planet.  We love them and they love us and we want all of you to visit them daily, take advantage of their deals on everything from kitchen equipment to cookbooks, CDs, DVDs, and everything else a person could want.  Everything you buy from them puts money into our pockets, which allows us to keep this fine blog up-and-running 24/7/365!  God bless America and God bless Amazon.com!
