“Educational Writings-Discourse, Part XLII: the Life and Times of Beverly Carrick—World-Famous Artist, Part Twenty-One!” by Moses Scharbug III

MOUNTAIN released their twenty-fifth album, “Official Live Mountain Bootleg Series #15—Ludwigsburg—28-April-1996” in 2006 and again, we have another installment of the band’s official live bootleg recordings!  The problem with Mountain is that unlike the Grateful Dead, the band broke up and reformed whenever they felt like making some money, which means we keep getting the same old tunes repeatedly!  Still, use the link posted above, go to Amazon.com, and buy it NOW in order that your collection of their recordings is complete!  Thank you so much!

Educational Writings-Discourse, Part XLII: the Life and Times of Beverly Carrick—World-Famous Artist, Part Twenty-One!” by Moses Scharbug III

Jack Russell and Beverly Carrick Snow at his birthday party, 06-10-2011...

Bakersfield, CA, 01-11-2013 F:  Here it is, Friday, the second one of the New Year, I believe, which means we are off to a rip-roaring start, if you will.  Today, we are going to conclude our tale of the greatest artist the world has ever known as well as one of our patron saints and guiding lights.  To know Beverly is to know one of the sweetest folks to have ever existed today or any time during the past.  Seldom does one have opportunity to meet someone who has the talent as she had much less to have shared it with the entire world to see.  We are going to miss her horribly, I mean, what am I saying!  We miss her now!   It is both a privilege and an honor to represent Mrs. Snow in the way in which, I have the pleasure of doing and as we have told you every day since December 22, 2012, buy your original Beverly Carrick artworks NOW before they are sold—lock, stock, and barrel, if you will—to the highest bidder.  Currently, we are selling quite a few paintings now and hope to sell still more before that day arrives when the legal side of the Beverly Carrick Snow Trust is going to be forced to take over the remainder and to sell them to an art auctioneer or warehouse for distribution worldwide!  Yes, the prices are currently higher here at the American Institute of Culinary Politics-Elemental News of the Day but the reason for that is the fact that the artist is no longer with us.  However, once they are turned over to an outside intermediary, the prices are going to skyrocket!  Buy your paintings now!
Beverly Carrick Snow with Jack's daughter, Katherine...

Yesterday, we were discussing how an old admirer from Beverly’s past, John “Jack” S. Russell, managed to find her and within a relatively short time left his befuddled wife, Betty, in the hands of caretakers so he could hop on an airplane and fly out west from Houston.  Alzheimer’s disease had beleaguered Betty for quite awhile and was no longer truly the Betty that Jack had known most of his life.  Yet, “Mr. Jack” as he became known to all in Bakersfield took care of lovingly, never missing a day’s duties.  He had been retired from Mobil Oil now for many years and living the good life thanks to his skills at selecting the right stocks in which, to invest his money.   Making money was never a difficult thing for the wily Texan and seldom did he err in which stocks would make him money and which would not.  Therefore, after several months of emailing and then speaking on the phone back and forth, he headed out west to see if Beverly was still the same woman whom he had known during the 1960s while he employed her husband, Harry.
Elaine Jamison with Chef Brian Carrick at Jack's Birthday Party...

Mr. Jack was stunned when he arrived at Beverly’s home and the two were very pleased with what they saw.  After a few hours of conversation and viewing the home and its paintings, the two hopped into her car and headed to the lovely city of Santa Barbara, California, and spent a weekend at the Biltmore Hotel.   They wandered about the hotel’s grounds, had dinner in its lovely fine dining room and elsewhere in the beautiful beach resort and by the time their trip ended, they were madly in love with one another.  Beverly was excited, as she had now been without John for close to six years and it was a sad time as she had little to do except to go out with her friend, Ernestine Miller or with her brother, Gene, and her sister-in-law, Elaine.  Yes, she had some other friends but not what she needed and craved most:—a man for a lovely romance.
Jack and Katherine Russell, father and daughter at PF Chang's Restaurant 2011...

Mr. Jack returned to Houston and immediately put his home on the market and had his household staff packing his belongings in preparation for moving out to California.  Some people, including his only living child, a daughter named Katherine thought that he had gone mad and advised against it but still, nothing could dissuade the man from coming, as he knew exactly what he wanted: Beverly.
Ron Lopez, RIP, and Carol, both of the Westchester Hair Creations at the birthday party...

He returned to California and found a home alongside the golf course at the Seven Oaks Country Club and had his household furnishing loaded, packed, and shipped out to his new address.  He transferred all of his business investments, his banking, and everything else he owned to California and within a short amount of time became a permanent resident along with his wife, Betty.   She was confused by the rapidity of everything but accepted whatever he told her and not long after arriving in town, he found some new household staff members to care for his ailing wife.
Jack Russell and his daughter, Katherine...

Mr. Jack and Beverly never wanted to get married but chose to live in their separate homes seeing one another everyday in the early afternoon after she finished painting for the day.  This allowed him to go out and to see the new city in which, he now lived as a fulltime resident and then the afternoons were spent together, going here, there, everywhere and anywhere they chose.   They went to theatrical productions, they went to dinner, and they went and had ice cream, practically every day.  After a year or two, his daughter finally arrived in town so she could meet "this new woman" who had so captivated her father’s heart and was impressed by her bearing and her artistic skills.  Soon, they became friends as well.   When her mother, Betty, finally died, it made it easier for her to associate with her father and his lover and so she came to Bakersfield from her home in Pasadena, California, more often to see both of them.
Katherine and Jack Russell and Mr. Bill Klauser...

Mr. Jack helped Beverly’s ideas about money and investing slowly to change and over the course of the last couple of years of their lives together, he showed her how to get the most out of her money. He reinvested her certificates of deposit in mildly risky stocks and municipal bonds so that she could better support herself now that the art world had completely crashed.  She had her social security and that of her dead husband’s but times were getting more and more difficult so Jack showed her the right way in which, to make the safest investments and to more than triple her money.  In that respect, he was a good man and exactly what Beverly needed as he helped her become the moneymaking individual that she became.
Beverly Carrick's sister-in-law, Elaine, and her husband, Beverly's brother, Gene Jamison with a friend at Jack's birthday party on 06-11-2011...

During this time, her son, Brian had a two-year relationship that came to an abrupt end as his lover and intended fiancée dumped him like a pile of feces.  A devastating event nearly shattered Brian’s psyche, as he had absolutely no idea that it was coming and so was taken completely by surprise.  However, he rebounded amazingly fast and found his third and final wife, Linda Payne, a worker for a social agency in Bakersfield and in early 2011, Linda moved into his and his mother’s home.  On October 31, 2011, they married and have been together since.
Jack Russell, tired at his party...he would pass away about six months later...

In late 2011, Mr. Jack began suffering the effects of dehydration, self-induced sadly, due to his “know-it-all-attitude.”  He ignored what his doctor had told him in the treatment of his congestive heart failure: his doctor told him to limit his intake of fluids to a mild degree and so Mr. Jack quit taking any other than what he took with his medicines.  Now at the age of 92, he had always been sharp as a tack but the deprivation put him into the intensive care ward of San Joaquin Community Hospital.  When totally rehydrated, he was released but commenced doing it again and put himself back into the hospital in late December and by January 02, 2012, he was dead.
Jack Russell looking at memories of all the things he built while working for Mobil Oil Company of California...

This event devastated Beverly Carrick Snow once more as again, she lost another “husband” in a short amount of time.  As in the case of her second husband, John Snow, his doctor told him that he had “some time” but it turned out to be not much more than a couple of months.  In Mr. Jack’s case, it was pretty much the same; he went in and out of the hospital for a couple of months, dying at the end of his time there.  Shortly after death, the mortuary picked him up, cremated him, and his daughter accompanied his ashes back to Texas.  A few months later, a wake was held in honor of him, and then he was no more.
Jack Russell with his love, Beverly Carrick Snow, now confined to a motorized scooter...

Over the course of 2012, Beverly Carrick changed considerably as she was not only bereft of a man in her life but also confined to a scooter due to lack of mobility on her part.  No longer able to walk, she had to use a scooter full time to travel anywhere, even around the house, and this caused her to slide into a deep depression in which, she took everything out on everybody.  Unhappiness enveloped her making it difficult for the family to deal with her on any given day and yet Brian and his wife Linda cared for her until the end.
Jack Russell with his good friends, the Klausers...

On November 06, the day of the presidential election, she went to a new physician at Kaiser Permanente in Bakersfield for a checkup as she had been unhappy with her previous doctor.  We learned later that her new doctor had given her a plethora of lab work to do but she said she had none when she arrived home.  Questioned by her youngest son as to “how that could be,” she maintained for the following days that she had been given none.  By 13 November, she could no longer breathe and was transported to Kaiser Permanente’s Urgent Care Center where she spent the next eight hours.   Then, around 9:30 P.M. that night, Brian and his wife took her to San Joaquin Community Hospital (SJCH) where they were awaiting her.
Mr. Jack's Birthday Cake- his 92nd Birthday...

She spent the next four days undergoing a battery of tests and on the 16th; she arrived home where Optimal Hospice had prepared her room for her.  With aid from the hospice workers, Brian and Linda provided most of the care over the course of sixteen hours as a second group brought in to help them get some time off only was there for eight.  Otherwise, Brian spent the day with her until his wife arrived home and then with the aid of a baby monitor, they kept watch together.
Mr. Jack preparing to blow out his birthday candles...

By the end of the first week, Beverly had become complete comatose and the second company was let go.  Only the hospice nurse and hygienist came to the home and after a couple of days, the latter was told not to disturb Beverly as all she did now was slumber in the narcotic dreams to which, she was subjected.  By the 29th, things were not looking well and when Patrick Carrick called his brother to see how things were, he was told “not good.” Their mother was beginning to discolor and yet, her heart still labored on in much the same way as her beau, Mr. Jack's had for a week or so in his hospital bed.   Patrick soon arrived and then the nurse and when the nurse put his stethoscope to her breast, she ceased breathing at that moment: 4:15 P.M. on November 29, 2012.
Beverly Carrick Snow and her beau, Mr. Jack...

It is hard to say there was much grief, if anything, relief.  Beverly had not expected it to take two weeks and once after three days had passed, had awoken and asked, “What day is it?”  When told, she said, “Damn! I did not think I would still be here!”  She struggled for two weeks to pass over to the other side and during the last couple of days, Brian was begging Grandma and Grandpa or Mr. Jack or John to ‘please take her, don’t make her suffer!’  Apparently, they finally did and helped her move across the great divide between this realm and that of God’s.
Mr. Jack showing off some sort of gift. Karen Carrick is in the background in a wheelchair with Gene Jamison to the right on the sofa...

In the ensuing time, life continues on, Beverly was cremated and still resides in the home in the urn she herself chose to inhabit for all eternity.  Everyone grieved at some point or another but mostly, all were relieved.  It is not that they wanted this amazing person to disappear forever as most believe they will meet her again at one time or another, it is just that they did not want her to suffer.  Whether or not she felt anything under the effects of the morphine sulfate and the lorazepam—premeasured by the nurse upon demand of the family (who wants to overdose one’s mother?)—is unknown but to all appearances, she was at peace and rejoined her family and her husband, John.
Beverly Carrick Snow at PF Chang's 2011...

The legacy of Beverly Carrick is that she indeed is one of the greatest artists of all time, comparable to any of the all-time greatest Impressionists or Classical artists who ever lived.  Her paintings brought joy to millions if not hundreds of millions around the world, her paintings will be in greater demand now more so than ever before.  To own an original Carrick is to own a piece of history, something not easily obtainable within another month or two.   Now is the time to buy a painting, a print, a giclees, or a lithograph or anything else painted, drawn, or imagined by this amazing artist, this giant among giants even though she conquered a man’s world on one leg.
