EDUCATIONAL WRITINGS-DISCOURSE, PART XII

Educational Writings-Discourse, Part XII: America: Third World Foodstuffs in a First World Nation—Recipe for Disaster, Part III!” by Moses Scharbug III

Bakersfield, CA, 12-12-2012 W:  Right now, I am in a bit of a quandary wondering what I should do about both Christmas and Kwanzaa, which take place AFTER the End of Days, the Apocalypse, and the End Times.  Hanukkah begins on the Ninth so there’s no problem there but even so, if you knew the world were ending,” would you spend a lot of money buying everyone gifts or would you hold onto it in case you were one of the few survivors.  The thing that has me in a puzzled state is that normally, it’s the Christians and to some degree the Shiite Muslims who believe in the “End Times,” and truth be told, December 21st has nothing to do with either NOR with the Jewish faith because it’s something cooked up by the ancient Mayans because of their astrological observances.   How they watched the stars for thousands of years without powerful telescopes and built pyramids, cities, and other great works that nowadays one cannot build sans GPS is beyond all educated guesses.  They knew something that apparently, no one else except for other ANCIENT cultures has any idea and to tell you what I feel in my heart, something must be there, you just don’t make stuff up like this, it’s not the Grimm Brothers’ Fairy Tales; they saw something in the depths of space, and something no one else has.

We know the ancient Egyptians as well as certain Native American tribes like the Hopi have also prophesied that things are going to happen in nine days that NASA and other governmental organizations and world bodies have yet to see and if one is superstitious in the least, one has to wonder.  I suspect that if the poles do shift and the world does become topsy-turvy, then it will be the end of things, as we know it so whatever can we do about that?

Back to my question: what to do about gift giving just in case the world doesn’t end?  Well, I have spent a great deal of time speculating with my wife as to what we should do and while I think we should buy nothing until the Twenty-Second of December, she feels we should go out and buy our normal gifts so our Christian and other friends are not offended.  I can say truthfully that I will take no offense if no one gives us anything because I plan to give nothing to anyone, including my kids.  We are going to celebrate Hanukkah in the normal fashion and when it’s over and done, if the world wants to ended or if aliens land and subjugate us, well, we’ll deal with it then.  Let me know what you think: perhaps we can develop a plan together because I sort of think that this is all a bunch of superstitious mumbo jumbo, something created by the History Channel and authors and all sorts of modern day prophets seeking to cash in on a once-in-a-lifetime craze.   Then again, I could be very wrong and in for a nasty surprise on the specified day like everyone else.  Even if you knew the end was coming, what could you do?

We will continue our discussion on this momentous occasion tomorrow but for now, we will return to my essay on the dangers of becoming dependent on other nations for our food supply.  To me, this is one of the biggest dangers lurking in the world as to require other nations to sustain us is precisely the same thing that brought the Roman Empire crashing down.  You can only expect some sort of disaster, whether in the form of blackmail or in the form of a direct cutoff of food to occur as if we come to depend on others who doesn’t like us, that’s insane!  We begin:

AMERICA—THIRD WORLD FOODSTUFFS IN A FIRST WORLD NATION—A RECIPE FOR DISASTER, PART III

The government inspector asked the man in Spanish as to “why he was doing what he was doing with the portable toilet within walking distance?”  The man replied, “I don’t like them” and that was that.  The health inspector told us that from that day on, even if they could fine the farm owner and teach him to pay more attention to the sanitation out in his fields, that he “would NEVER eat another garden salad ever.”

My mother told me that in my grandmother’s time that it was okay to use what they euphemistically called “night soil,” which was a nice way of speaking about human feces, as a fertilizer for their crops.  While that practice—basically—is a “taboo” in this country (or hopefully so but still occurs in the farm crops as outlined by the KCHD inspector), but which happens matter-of-factly outside of our borders. Here are some examples of the things we need to control in a report on the dangers of NAFTA:

“Fast Track[i] analyzes government data and medical and academic sources to document how:

·       Imported food is more than three times more likely to be contaminated with illegal pesticide residues than U. S.-grown food, according to new analysis of FDA data.

·       While U. S. imports have skyrocketed, U. S. inspections of imported food have declined significantly;

·       Imports of Mexican crops documented by the U. S. government to be at a high risk of pesticide contamination have dramatically increased under NAFTA while inspection has decreased;

·       The enormous increase in imports from Mexico and Canada under NAFTA has overwhelmed U. S. Border Inspectors;

·       Approximately 74 U. S. import inspectors are responsible for inspecting nearly 2.4 billion pounds of imported meat and poultry;

·       Foodborne illness is on the rise globally and in the United States due to the “globalization” of the food supply;

·       The process whereby the U. S. recognizes other nation’s food inspection systems as “equivalent” has increased imports of contaminated meat and poultry under NAFTA and undermined federal efforts to strengthen the oversight of meat and poultry.

The first issue to be discussed is the VOLUME faced by inspectors.  It is extremely difficult for 74 inspectors nation-wide to go over tooth and nail everything deserves.  It’s like overloaded Kern County social workers trying to manage over 100 caseloads each; it’s impossible.  The Fast Track article continues on with a few additional warnings:

“Recent outbreaks of disease involving imported raspberries and strawberries have forced the issue of U. S. food safety into the debate over fast track and NAFTA expansion.  NAFTA, fast track and other trade policies are now directly undermining consumer protection such as food safety.  That is why consumer, food safety, and health groups oppose the fast track to more of these trade disasters,” said Joan Claybook, President of Public Citizen.[ii]

It’s a given that our outlook on sanitation and health concerns stops at our borders so we must take precautions.  Foods grown and raised in Latin American nations have the potential to cause widespread outbreaks of disease and discomfort in our country.  There have been outbreaks of E-coli and hepatitis A, which have occurred on our soil, most notably the hepatitis outbreak in 1997 “when a San Diego company illegally used Mexican strawberries to supply frozen fruit for the federal lunch program.”[iii] In addition, Mr. Mueller points out in the same article that “we’ve also had problems traced to Guatemalan raspberries, another fruit which extended (the problem) to twenty states.”

Beef has been the biggest problem as far as E-coli outbreaks are concerned though its source is harder to trace.  All it takes is one tainted cow (mostly dairy) thrown into a batch of ground beef to contaminate the entire lot.  According to Linda Scott Kantor and Margaret Malanoski[iv], we import 7% of our red meat from the outside.  “Fresh, frozen, and chilled meats—most of which is purchased for further processing—make up the bulk of red meat imports (10% beef and 4% pork).

Editor’s Note: this is where we shall stop for this segment of my article.  I hope you are learning information that will protect both you and your family as if things don’t change and soon, the American people are in a dangerous situation.  One has to remember that many of the places in which, food imports are utilized is in areas such as institutional cookery, i.e., schools, colleges, retirement homes, and hospitals, where many of the people can ill afford any sort of bout with foodborne illness.  Yet, the United States seems hell bent on bringing in more and more food, which to an educated person is courting disaster.  Anyhow, we shall pick up tomorrow with more of my essay.

END PART III

--------------------------------------------

As always, we have a great time around here and that is why we want all of you to become a part of the organization by submitting articles to us for inspection and full-credit.  It is a great thing if you would do this, as it is a symbiotic relationship: we give you the space to share your recipes and in return, you send us more and more people who will become dedicated followers of the END.  Currently of multi-diversity across the Internet, it is important that we hear the voices of more and more people from all walks of the foodservice profession —join us. We urge our readership to write to us, leave comments, and if there are any of you, who would care to write an article for us, please get in touch via Magnolia Hilltop Brewers, P.O. Box 20669, Bakersfield, CA 93390-0669.  We obviously do not pay anything but give YOU full byline and that, my friends, is worth its weight in gold.  We want as many people who want to write to be able to do so and we believe that by presenting a forum for our fellow chefs, we are doing something for our beloved industry.  We love diversity and hope to add new and different authors to our pantheon of chefs, food and beverage directors, and culinary professionals.  Come on and join us, it will be fun! Expect that when all of us have run through our cycle, we will be introducing some brand-new talent or so Stinky says.

Please remember to avoid doing business with AARC Technology in Bakersfield, CA.  These people do not care about the small customer anymore but instead put all of their attentions onto their corporate customers. It is sad to not remember why one has the success they do or from where it came. Nowadays, we promote the Nerds on Call computer service, these people are phenomenal and we want you to seek service from them!

          Today, we offered the final Blue Cheer album and then tomorrow, we begin offering CDs by the great Massachusetts hard rock band, MOUNTAIN.  I look forward to offering theirs as to me; they always epitomized the best about American rock and roll: some real hardcore characters in the personas of Leslie West, Felix Pappalardi, Corky Laing and Steve Knight fronted the band, and they continually delivered the goods album after album.  I actually saw them several times over the years and to me, that will always be one of the best moments of my entire lifetime so if things do go to hell in nine days, then I know I have seen some of the greatest rock and roll acts of all time!  Yes, indeed!

Anyhow, let us close with this impassioned plea—please leave some comments and/or become a follower and why not spend some money and purchase an album by BLUE CHEER and/or buy a cookbook from Amazon.com—we want to make some money here so help us out by buying something!  Allied with them, we are pleased to market their merchandise! See you next time around! Bye!

Thank you!
